QUESTS:....
Jade's eyes sparkled as he gazed at his status window on the system panel. At just five years old, he was already twice as strong as an adult human male. He had already achieved so much, and the numbers reflected his progress. He had come a long way from his weak fragile self , although it had become increasingly difficult to gain stat points as his daily quests had been erased when he turned a year old . Instead, he had gained Cryokinesis as a reward for completing the quest of becoming a year old
His absorption ability, "Belgusari's Hunger," was still in its novice stage, but he was proud of the foundation he had built. It was his reward for taking a life for the first time after saving Niamh from an enormous rat on one of their scavenging missions.
With a sense of satisfaction, he closed the panel, knowing he had a long journey ahead but feeling eager to take on the challenges that came with it. A small smile crept onto his face as he contemplated the possibilities.
The engines roared louder, and the ground began to vibrate beneath their feet. Niamh's grip on Jade's hand remained firm as she peered around the crate, her eyes scanning the horizon. "Scavenger drones," she whispered, her voice barely audible over the din. "They're looking for valuable scrap metal. We need to stay hidden until they pass."
Jade's eyes were fixed on the drones, his silvery grey gaze intense. Suddenly, he tugged on Niamh's hand, his voice barely above a whisper. "Niamh, I think I can help."
Niamh's eyes snapped back to Jade, a questioning glance. What did he have in mind?
Jade's eyes sparkled with a hint of mischief as he leaned in closer to Niamh. "I can create a distraction," he whispered, his voice filled with a quiet confidence. "Maybe make it look like there's something valuable over there?" He nodded toward a nearby pile of discarded machinery.
Niamh's grip on his hand relaxed slightly as she considered the plan. She knew Jade's abilities were unpredictable, but she also knew he was resourceful. With a subtle nod, she gave him the go-ahead. "Okay, but be careful. We don't want to draw attention to ourselves."
Jade's face lit up with a faint smile as he focused his energy. The air around the pile of machinery began to shimmer, and a faint hum filled the air. Suddenly, a burst of frosty mist erupted from the pile, making it look like a valuable cache of rare scrap metal. The scavenger drones immediately altered their course, homing in on the decoy.
Niamh's eyes widened in surprise, and she pulled Jade deeper into the shadows, holding her breath as the drones rumbled past their hiding spot. "Well done, little fella," she whispered, her voice filled with pride. "You're a natural."
As the drones disappeared into the distance, Niamh and Jade shared a triumphant glance. But their relief was short-lived, as the sound of approaching footsteps echoed through the junkyard, growing louder with each passing moment...
The footsteps were heavy, deliberate, and seemed to be coming from multiple directions. Niamh's eyes narrowed, her grip on Jade's hand tightening. "Stay close," she whispered, her voice barely audible.
Jade's eyes were wide with excitement and a hint of fear. He could feel the tension emanating from Niamh, and it made his senses go on high alert.
As the footsteps drew closer, a group of rough-looking men emerged from the shadows. They were dressed in scavenged armor and carried an assortment of makeshift weapons. Niamh positioned herself between Jade and the men, her eyes scanning the group for any signs of weakness.
The leader, a burly man with a scar above his left eyebrow, sneered at Niamh. "Well, well, well. What do we got here? A little scavenger and her precious cargo."
Niamh's eyes flashed with defiance. "We're just passing through. Don't bother us, and we won't bother you."
The man's grin grew wider. "Oh, I think you'll find that's not how it works around here. You see, we've got a... let's call it a 'tax' on scavengers. You pay up, and we might let you live."
Jade's eyes flicked to Niamh, sensing her tension. He knew she was ready to fight, but he also knew that might not be the best option. He tugged on her hand, trying to get her attention.
"Niamh, maybe—"
But before he could finish, the leader took a step closer, his hand on the grip of his makeshift sword. "You think you're above paying the tax? We'll take whatever you've got, and you can consider yourselves lucky if you leave with your lives."
Niamh's eyes locked onto the leader, her jaw set in determination. But Jade's grip on her hand remained firm, and he whispered, "Wait..."
Jade's whisper seemed to give Niamh pause, and she hesitated for a moment before nodding slightly. "Alright, we'll pay the tax," she said, her voice measured.
The leader's grin faltered for a moment, clearly expecting resistance. "Good choice," he said, his tone dripping with sarcasm. "Now, let's see what you've got worth giving us."
Niamh rummaged through their scavenged goods, producing a few valuable components. The leader's eyes lit up as he assessed the haul, but his expression quickly turned calculating. "This isn't enough. We want more."
Jade's eyes met Niamh's, and he could sense her frustration. That's when he remembered his absorption ability, "Belgusari's Hunger." He hadn't fully mastered it yet, but maybe...
Without drawing attention to himself, Jade subtly reached out with his ability, trying to sense the energy within the leader. To his surprise, he felt a faint resonance, like a dark hum. The leader seemed to be augmented by some kind of technology or implant.
Jade's eyes locked onto the leader, and he focused his energy. The leader suddenly stumbled, his eyes glazing over for a moment. "What's... what's going on?" he muttered, confusion etched on his face.
The other scavengers looked at their leader in alarm, momentarily distracted. Niamh seized the opportunity, whispering to Jade, "Time to go."
With the scavengers momentarily disoriented, Niamh grabbed Jade's hand, and they made a swift retreat into the junkyard's maze-like alleys. As they disappeared into the shadows, the leader's voice echoed through the junkyard, "Find them! I don't care who they are, I want them brought back here!"
Niamh and Jade navigated through the junkyard's narrow alleys, dodging discarded machinery and leaping over puddles of oily water. They moved swiftly, their footsteps light as they tried to put as much distance between themselves and the scavengers as possible.
As they ran, Jade glanced back, his eyes scanning the horizon for any signs of pursuit. The scavengers were hot on their heels, their shouts and curses echoing through the junkyard.
Niamh pulled Jade into a narrow crevice between two massive shipping containers. "Wait," she whispered, her chest heaving with exertion. "We need to catch our breath."
Jade nodded, his eyes wide with excitement. "I think I can help more," he whispered, his mind racing with ideas. "My ability... I can use it to disrupt their tracking equipment or something."
Niamh's eyes sparkled with interest. "Go on."
Jade focused his energy, trying to sense the scavengers' equipment. He could feel the hum of their tracking devices, the buzz of their comms systems. With a subtle nudge, he began to disrupt their signals, making it harder for them to track Niamh and himself.
The scavengers' shouts grew more distant, their pursuit faltering as they struggled to regain their bearings. Niamh smiled, her eyes shining with pride. " Let's keep moving."
As they emerged from the crevice, Niamh's gaze fell upon a dilapidated vehicle, partially hidden behind a stack of crates. "Ah, perfect," she whispered, a plan forming in her mind. "Let's get out of here."

Writing in English is extremely difficult for me and my ideas are jumbled up in my brain. Writing it down and writing it the correct way takes a genius, that's why I have decided to input any questions that may arise in the auxillary chapter so I don't ruin my pace by jumping from one explanation to another.
