As Niamh and Jade reached the vehicle, Niamh swiftly opened the creaky door and pushed Jade inside. "Get down!" she whispered urgently, her eyes scanning the surrounding area for any signs of pursuit. Jade crouched low, his heart racing with excitement . Suddenly, Jade's eyes locked onto the scavengers, and he raised his hand, focusing his Cryokinesis ability. A blast of icy air shot out from his palm, knocking over a small hill of junk and debris, temporarily halting the scavengers pursuit. "Hold on!" Niamh shouted, starting the vehicle's engine.
With a loud roar, the vehicle lurched forward, careening through the junkyard as Niamh expertly navigated the narrow alleys, determined to shake off their pursuers. But the scavengers were relentless, driven by an unnatural interest in Jade, their gazes lingering on him with an unnerving intensity that made Jade's skin crawl.
As the vehicle sped through the junkyard, Jade's Belgusari's Hunger ability began to tingle, sensing the dark energy emanating from the scavengers, and he wondered what was driving their obsession with him.
The vehicle careened through the junkyard, Niamh's hands moving swiftly over the controls as she dodged debris and navigated through the narrow alleys. Jade held on tight, his eyes fixed on the rearview screen as the scavengers gave chase. Their vehicles were slower, but they seemed determined to catch up. Jade's Cryokinesis ability was still active, and he could feel the cold energy coursing through his veins. He wondered how much longer he could maintain the disruption.
Suddenly, Niamh took a sharp turn, and the vehicle skidded around a corner, throwing Jade against the seat. "We're almost there," she said, her voice tight with concentration. Jade nodded, his heart racing with excitement.
As they approached the junkyard's exit, Jade saw the group of scavengers waiting for them. Niamh's grip on the steering wheel tightened. "This isn't good," she muttered.
The men moved to block their path, and Niamh had to slam on the brakes to avoid crashing into them. Jade's heart sank as he realized they were trapped. What did they want with him? Jade's Belgusari's Hunger ability was tingling, He knew he had to be careful.
Niamh turned to him, her eyes locked onto his. "Stay close," she whispered. "We'll get out of this together." Jade nodded, his trust in Niamh growing. But as he looked at the men in black, he couldn't shake off the feeling that they were in grave danger.
Jade didn't know exactly strong he was compared to the men standing in front of him. But we was willing to fight them to protect Niamh. He wasn't exactly afraid of them given his last life experience, but he had to take his young body and Niamh into account as he didn't really know how much he could expose about himself before he was labeled as a monster.
Jade looked towards Niamh, seeing the false bravado in her eyes . He decided to forgo his worries ,after all they needed to be alive before worrying about anything else.
He got out of the car before Niamh could hold him back whispering in a voice that was almost imperceptible ' just trust me'.
Looking at the men standing in front, his eyes flashing with determination as the six men closed in. He raised his hands, and a wave of icy air rippled out, encasing the surrounding area in frost.
Surprise flickered through the eyes of the scavengers, they didn't expect the twerp the old woman was going around with to be an awakener- and one so young!. Joy bubble in their heads as they imagined what they would gain if the boy were to be sold to the proper channels .
With greed clouding their minds, they charged, each unleashing their unique abilities.
" I want him alive !", Flamekin, a burly man with flames dancing in his palms shouted at his cohort while shooting a blast of fire towards Jade, but he conjured a shield of swirling snowflakes, extinguishing the flames. "You think a little snow can stop me?" Flamekin taunted. But before he could conjure another bout of flames, a spike of ice jutted out from his left shoulder, and he was frozen into an ice sculpture before he could scream.
Meanwhile, Techno, a lean man with a cybernetic arm, fired a barrage of razor-sharp projectiles from his wrist-mounted gun. Jade dodged and weaved, avoiding the projectiles with ease. "You're fast, kid," Techno said, "but m-". An ice spike jutted out of his throat before he could finish his sentence.
The rest of the scavengers froze in shock. The fight had barely started and 2 of their men were already lying dead!. It was even harder to comprehend that they had been killed by a little kid who looked like he had just been weened . Looking towards the boy, his eyes glowing raw power, they hesitated.
But the deed was done and they couldn't back away any longer .
Their leader was dead and they had to take revenge or at least get some form of compensation!.
Stormer, a man with eyes that seemed to gleam with electricity gritted his teeth, summoned a bolt of lightning that crackled through the air. Jade dodged at the last second, the electricity arcing harmlessly past him. "You're going down, kid!" Stormer shouted.
As the men attacked, Jade positioned himself between them and Niamh, protecting her from harm. Brutus, a hulking man with superhuman strength, charged towards Jade, but he summoned a vortex of frozen air, sending Brutus stumbling back. "What the...?" Brutus exclaimed, his voice muffled by the howling wind, Before his body touched the ground , he was frozen solid.
Jade followed up with a blast of cryokinetic energy, freezing Gustave's arm solid. Gustave, a skilled martial artist, had been using his agility and combat skills to try and take down Jade. "Aaah! My arm!" Gustave yelped, watching in horror as the chill climbed up his arm before finally enclosing in eternal ice .
Aqua, a lithe woman wielding a torrent of water, lunged forward, but Jade encased her in a block of ice. Umbra, a mysterious figure wielding darkness, tried to envelop Jade in shadowy tendrils, but Jade burst free, unleashing a maelstrom of icy shards that sent Umbra crashing to the ground, ice spikes jutting out grotesquely from his back
As the last attacker fell, Jade stood panting, his chest heaving with exertion. The six men lay dead around him, their unique abilities no match for his mastery of ice and cold. Niamh watched from the car, her eyes wide with shock and horror. She sat frozen, her hands still grasping the steering wheel, staring at Jade as if seeing him for the first time.
Jade approached the car, his eyes still blazing with the power of his abilities. Niamh's gaze followed him, her expression a mix of incredulity and concern. "Jade...how...?" she trailed off, her voice barely above a whisper. Jade smiled, his chest still heaving with exertion. "Let's get out of here," he said, his voice low and confident. Niamh nodded, still looking stunned, and started the car.
She didn't ask questions on how he was able to do what he did or how he felt after taking lives.
She knew it was bound to happen , it just happened sooner than she would have hoped for . But she didn't plan on reprimanding him in any way , she would just silently offer her comfort if need be . She prayed silently that the experience wouldn't cause him any psychological shadow while also blaming herself for not being able to protect him despite being his guardian.
As they drove away, Jade's eyes scanned the surroundings, ever vigilant, his powers still simmering just below the surface.
.....
As they drove away from the scene, Jade's eyes scanned the surroundings, his powers still simmering just below the surface. Niamh's gaze occasionally flicked towards him, her expression a mix of comfort and concern.
After a while, they arrived at the shack they called home. Jade stepped out of the car, his eyes taking in the familiar surroundings. Niamh followed, her movements slow and deliberate.
