Chapter 32 - Gettysburg

Willie Lou regained her consciousness in the battlefield of Gettysburg, her nephew Chicago by her side when she awakened.

Chicago had grown significantly more powerful since his mother Celie had been killed, training on his own accord for his mission of killing all demons. He was one of the many people opposed to Jasper joining The Demon Corps, stating that all demons should be killed rather they forfeited or not.

President Lincoln assigned General Meade with the responsibility of pursuing Robert E Lee, but General Lee countered with an attempted invasion of a free state.

The battle of Gettysburg began with Robert E Lee arriving before the Union moved into Virginia from Pennsylvania.

Gunshots and canon fire launched in the background.

"Ready for night three Sleeping Beauty?" Chicago asked with a smile on his face. "The Confederates keep pushing...there's even a couple demons with them. I have to kill them both...we've stalled for long enough and they know we're here!"

Willie Lou replied. "Stay patient...The Confederacy has been struggling to get through our lines."

Willie Lou paid full attention to the battlefield, noting the Confederacy's failed attempt of breaking through the American Army's left flank. She was sure they would likely try one last push before giving up, and that would be when the battle against their demons began.

"I assure you that things will workout, we'll get a chance to fight against those demons today." Willie Lou said. "For now we just stand our ground and continue to fight on the lines."

"Yeah, yeah." Chicago sighed disappointedly and made his way towards the front line. "I guess I'll see ya-"

Chicago's voice silenced and he jumped on guard soon as an unknown energy arrived to their location.

A demon.

Willie Lou and Chicago pounced on the demon simultaneously, powering up their spiritual energy to attack at full power and kill the demon.

Chicago sliced through the demon's neck and Willie Lou sliced his body in half, killing it in the matter of seconds before any harm was done.

Willie Lou shouted. "There's more!"

A platoon of Confederate's came charging towards their flank, but a couple of demons rushed ahead towards Union soldiers.

Chicago moved swiftly to counter the demons, attacking both demons with one technique to behead them both.

Both demons dropped dead after being decapitated, but he could still feel the presence of three other demons amongst the charging Confederates.

"I'll kill them!" Chicago yelled out. "I'll kill all demons!"

Chicago began to blitz ahead before a sudden burst of fire intercepted, engulfing him in the flames and forcing him to the ground upon impacted.

Willie Lou shouted out to her nephew, but she couldn't detect or locate the attacker who launched the fire attack.

She teleported to Chicago urgently to put out the flames, shaking off the shock to see someone was fast enough to attack him while he ran full speed. Her nephew had grown extremely fast and even rivaled Terrance in speed, moving faster than lightning.

Willie Lou thought about lessons and training sessions with Terrance, remembering there was only few beings who could hide all their spiritual essence.

Chicago was burned from the attack and his soul was damaged, but he never screamed of any agonizing pain. He only grimaced from irritation of the burns, staying aware to try and locate his attacker unsuccessfully.

"I don't know where the guy is…but I can still locate other demons attacking our soldiers." Willie Lou said. "I can't just sit here, we're currently losing soldiers as I speak…"

Chicago struggled to stand with Willie Lou's help, but he focused on his breathing to steady his spiritual energy with his bodily fluids.

Willie Lou took a couple steps back as Chicago's aura expanded, an electricity began to spark from him adding blue lightning to his yellow aura.

"So…you're not finished." Willie Lou eyed the yellow illumination glowing from Chicago's physique. "Chicago…your spirit is damaged…and we don't even know who the hell just attacked you. I sent an alert to Terrance…he's gonna be here!"

Chicago roared out with a powering scream, his blue lightning striking throughout the battlefield to attack the presences of demons he felt.

The demons successfully dodged a couple lightning bolts until they weren't fast enough to prevent from being fried by the continuing bolts.

Willie Lou kept her eyes out for the being who caught Chicago in their fire attack, almost sure that the attacker was none other than Valeur. She rotated around the battlefield for a thorough investigation, pulling the bag from her side to open it for what's inside.

Willie Lou practiced heavily on her spiritual prowess throughout the months, her two goals for spiritual object perfection and spiritual transcending led to something she felt was truly remarkable.

"Come out!" Willie Lou called while pulling out her bible, she opened the book. "Or I'll just spot you myself!"

Chicago's lightning struck down on the incoming charging Confederates, setting fire to many of their soldiers and forcing the charge to halt.

Willie Lou began a prayer to the Gods, using the bible as her symbol of spirituality. She had been practicing to master the art of spiritual objects, but this marked the debut of using it against an enemy.

Chicago and Willie Lou led the battle of Gettysburg while waiting for Terrance's arrival, both of them were sure the demon named Valeur finally made an appearance.

According to Terrance, there was only few who could hide their divine presence, and the most powerful of that small group was Valeur. In fact, he was stated to be the most powerful spiritual energy user of all time.

Chicago darted down the entire battlefield, even forcing his own soldiers to evacuate from his lightning storm that caused multiple small fires.

The bible began to glow with Willie Lou's blue aura when her chanting finished, the bible levitated and guided her into the battlefield where Chicago's bolt rained down perilously.

The aura within her bible enlarged and dashed ahead towards a target, erupting upon impact with a Confederate soldier riding a horse.

The enemy target jumped into the skie after his location was exposed, his silhouette and black aura glistened from a full moon behind him.

"There he is Chicago!" Willie Lou shouted while pointing him out. "It's Valeur!"

Chicago's lightning barrage ended just as she pointed out the demon, she turned to face him at the sight of his body dropping flat on his stomach.

What the hell happened to him? Did he run out of energy? Screw it, there's no time! I have to deal with The Divine Demon here and now!

She faced back upward to see the small silhouette lined with the moon was no longer there, alarmingly turning around to see Valeur had come down directly behind her.

Willie Lou and Valeur met eyes for an instant, just before they both activated their next technique to attack.
