Chapter 16 - Alex's story

I was an orphan who was raised by an orphanage. I never really liked going outside. I didn't like playing hide and seek or running around in the garden like other kids. I was not able to fit in with the other kids or orphanage. The only thing I was curious about were my parents.

I was fascinated by the fact that there were two people out there who were the reason I was born. My parents were the reason for my existence. I only had one picture of my mom. She was a blonde woman who looked enchanting. I loved my parents and I really wanted to meet them one day.

Ginny was a lady who used to work at my orphanage. She used to take care of everyone diligently. She once told me that she knew my mom and that they were childhood friends. My mom was a pharmacist who worked for a big secret company it seems. She also told me that my mom was very busy to look after me so she left me here to be taken care of.

Ginny always performed all of her tasks meticulously but one day she did not come to the orphanage. It went on for a few days. There was no news of her. The director of the orphanage was worried about her because she had lost contact of Ginny for months now.

One fateful night, Ginny came back with a head injury and told me that my mom was dead. She collapsed after telling me that and was taken to the hospital. She just vanished in the hospital and was never seen ever again. I had no idea what had happened to my mom or Ginny.

I spent my days in the orphanage alone without getting any information from the outside until one day a strange man came looking for me. He told me that he was my father. I was delighted by the fact that I found one of my parent and went along with him.

My father was the head of the "Viper's Den". As his son, I was to be the successor of this organization. Killing was considered normal inside the organization. My young mind had no idea that I was doing something wrong. I just adored my father so much that I never questioned him. I was blind to everything around me...

I occasionally asked him about my mother but he always ignored it. He never answered any questions about my mother.

I turned 20 at this point. I always celebrated my birthdays with father. This year I could drink with my father so I was very excited. We drank and talked about a lot of things. My father was very drunk. Would he answer me now if I ask him about mom? I decided to take a chance.

I asked him where my mom was. He look at me furiously " That woman? I killed her a long time ago! I despise her from the bottom of my heart!! She refused to follow my orders. I offered her a generous amount but she still refused. She did not want to make the eternal poison... The poison that brings immortality in exchange for one's mobility".

He killed her? My father killed my mother? I wasn't sad about her death at all. I hated the fact that he killed her before I got a chance to meet her. I couldn't even see her in person once. How dare he? Should I just kill him? No... I don't want to lose my single connection to the outside world.

I did not kill my father. I just tied him up. I wanted him to watch me killing all of his personal favorites. I tortured and killed all of the assassins he personally raised. It took me a year to kill all of them. After that I fled the organization and severed my ties with my dad.

The organization never left me alone. My father continued to send several killers after me but I perceived and managed to escape from them. I came across a small peaceful town "Ravenwood". I loved the place so much that I didn't want to leave.

I decided to make this my fortress. If I establish an unreachable criminal area that cannot be touched by even the police then my dad will have a hard time sending assassins here since he can't afford to lose any more of his precious employees.

Along the way, I met a very dear friend. He was Nick. He was a weirdo but I could trust him. I felt very comfortable around him. I loved his smile the most since it seemed to be the most genuine thing ever. We protected our place together.

Killing was the only thing I ever knew. I could only live on other people's death. There were no other options for me. If one day I ever wanted to become a saint by never killing people again, then I would have been dead the very next day.

I managed to survive but I was lonely.....I admired every human being that could afford an ordinary life. I admired all the normal things....Having a family who eats together with you, giving presents to each other on Christmas, little sibling fights, reading a novel quietly in your room and loving someone with no expectation in return.....

I couldn't experience any of it. I was not allowed to experience any of it.....That is just life and I had come to accept it.
