Tyler
Sir, are you there?
"Huh," I say as Timothy's question pulled me out from my thoughts.
I blinked, realizing I've been staring at the same page for the past ten minutes.
"Yeah, yeah, you can go now," I dismissed.
Confusion was written all over his face, but he didn't persist as he turned around, making his exit through the door.
It's been a week since I encountered that psycho.
My thoughts keep drifting to her every now and then.
Work has been hectic so far, as I constantly have meetings to attend and contracts to sign.
Coming back from England after 5 years, a lot of things have changed from how I used to know it.
Handling the branch in England was much more difficult, but I pulled through. It shouldn't be that hard here either; besides, that branch is way bigger than this one.
After reviewing the contract paper, I took a break. It's been a week since my lack of sleep had never seemed to wear me out, but for some reason I'm worn out.
Proceeding to attend to more work as the hours passed by, one file after another, I had lost track of time as dusk soon arrived, followed by a gentle knock on my door.
"Who is it? I asked without shifting my focus from my file in hand.
"It's me, Mr. Douglas. "I'm off," Timothy says, waiting for my approval.
With a nod from me, he leaves as silently as he came.
Delving into sleep I kept the same pace until exhaustion claimed me as I gave in to sleep.
Emma
Emma, have you heard? Regina shot me a question.
"About," I say as my face screams I'm bored.
"The internship!" "How could you not have heard?" she asked, looking at me like I had grown two heads.
I shrugged as I scrolled through my socials.
"We were going to work as interns; eventually it's inevitable."I say as I keep swiping through my phone without looking up.
"Urghhh, you're such a joykill," Regina says, shooting daggers at me with her glare.
"But you love this joykill, don't you?"
"Oh, shut up"!
We talked about our weekend as one conversation led to another. Nothing out of the ordinary, but at least it killed time.
Soon after the department chair stepped into the room, silence followed– so heavy that a pin drop would have been heard.
"Good morning, students of NYU!" The department chair greeted.
"Good morning, sir", we responded in cautious wonder.
"You probably must have heard some little side talk as regarding the internship, which is clearly true, " he says, adjusting his glasses.
" In respect to this information, a list will be out by the end of today, as you all will be grouped in fives and assigned to work in different companies as decided by the school board, is that clear?!"
"Yes, sir, we all responded.
Some whispering, some with obvious excitement, and some clearly indifferent about the whole situation.
" If you have any questions, you can come to the office to clear yourself of the benefit of the doubt," he says dismissively as a swarm of students clutters his office while me and Regina stood in place.
"What if we don't get grouped together, Ems?" Regina says hysterically.
"Drama queen," I mutter under my breath.
"I heard that"
"We both know I'm not lying, though."
"But–
"It won't be the end of the world, Gina. We'll get to mingle with the others – it'll be fun, just the way you like it okay"?
"I think I need to panic more often to get you to talk to me like this" she grinned like an idiot.
"Enjoy it while it lasts" I say ,with an eye roll.
It's been hours since the department chair confirmed the internship rumor, and I was curious to know where I would be stationed to work.
"Back to earth Ems, Regina says with a smirk.
"Heyyy," I say grinning.
"I know you're worried even though you're trying to be Superman about it" She said, her voice laced with concern.
"Hmmm." In agreement with Regina, I am anxious what if they assign me to somewhere I don't fancy? And besides, I don't talk to a lot of people, Regina excluded.
My thoughts were interrupted abruptly when something grabbed my attention: students cluttering around the department chair as he walked in fast strides to his designated pulpit.
"Attention students!" As we earlier discussed, You have all been assigned to your various intern companies; you can now proceed to look at the notice board to spot your name and your new internship location. Thank you and have a great day.
"Wow," I thought as I gulped nervously. I'm never nervous about anything, but I can't help the goosebumps that appear on my skin anytime I hear side talks. The names have been drafted, and mine is sure as hell on that list I thought.
"Hey, let's check out our names. I really hope we get grouped together."
"Yeah sure".
What do you think would happen in chapter 5?😅
