Chapter 3 - Chapter 1 : Emma

Emma, wake up!! Mom called out as my alarm blew about 5 times, causing me to turn it off, irritated by the chaos it blasts in my head.

"Ughh, could you just let me sleep?" I groaned angrily.

"You're going to be late for your shift," she says.

I got up squinting as I turned on my phone to peer at the screen. Sleep disappeared as reality dawned on me: "Shit, 7:30!!"

My shift starts at eight. I can't afford to be late for the third time this week.

I sprinted to the bathroom, where I hummed to Rihanna's "Diamond." She's like the queen of music. Soon after I was done

in a haste to apply lotion to my skin

"Clothes, clothes, clothes," I hummed.

After enough searching, I decided to go with my black T-shirt that says "Don't mess with me" and a pair of baggy jeans; for my footwear, a pair of slides will do.

With little time on my hands, I couldn't curl my hair as I kept cross-checking to make sure I left no stone unturned.

Satisfied with how I looked after glancing at the mirror one last time, I dashed out, but my steps came to a halt when something delicious filled the air, causing me to battle between my head and stomach.

I can recognize my mom's cookies even in my sleep, not just any cookie, but Grandma's favorite recipe.

"Good morning, Mom."

"Morning, baby, hope you slept well." She asked. "

"Not exactly. I would have loved to sleep some more, but unfortunately I have work and class to catch up on," I say with a pout.

She laughed so warmly. It filled my heart. Mom went through so much after Dad died. I try my best to assist in any way I can and also be her personal comedian; it's the least I could do.

"Hold on a sec, let me wrap some," Mom says as she packs the cookies on a plate.

"Here, all set."

"Thanks, Mom, I love you," I say grinning.

"You too, boo boo bear. Be safe and good luck," Mom says as I hug and sprint out the door.

Walking as fast as my feet could take me.

I got my shift till 11, and I got class by 12:30. I've got enough time; besides, the coffee shop where I work is just 20 minutes away from school. I'll take the bus.

In 20 minutes I got there, taking a peep at the time, "8:30," I say under my breath, "You've really outdone yourself this time, Emma." I say to myself.

A voice jolted me from my thought.

"You can't be late and lazy to get to work," my boss says as he nods, not surprised by my tardiness. "

"Oh, I'm sorry, Buenos Dias," I said as I faked a smile, scurrying inside to take my place at the counter as I prepared to serve the customers for the day.

Well, I've been serving coffee for a couple of hours, and my shift came to an end. I couldn't be more glad.

After a 20-minute walk, I arrived home and quickly got ready for my 12:30 class. Since time was tight, I sprinted to the bathroom to take a quick shower.

"Want you to make me feel like I'm the only girl in the world," I sang along to the song. Like I said, Rihanna rocks.

A few minutes later I was done after putting on a great singing show in the bathroom hehehe...

As I dried my hair with a towel, I wrapped another around my chest.

Securing it snugly in place.

After drying my hair for a while, I gave myself a mental note to buy a blow dryer that would be more efficient and faster compared with the towel thingy.

After searching my closet for a while, I decided to go with a black crop shirt, a white skirt, some black boots, and a tote bag.

Yeah, that's done and over with. I rushed out of my room; I didn't want to be late to class. That's why I hurried home to take my bath from all the sweat from earlier.

Back to the present: "I think I'm good," and with that, she headed out the door.

Meanwhile, as Emma hurried out the door, she felt a twinge of guilt for not being able to kiss her mom goodbye again; she was probably in her bakery shop trying to attend to customers. Mom is so hardworking, sometimes a little too much, but she does it with a smile on her face, which Emma definitely loved about her mom.

Enough chit-chat, hehe...

Back to the present, well, Emma got to the bus station.

The bus arrived 15 minutes later, and Emma hopped in, taking her seat as the bus driver fired his engine and drove away.

Finally Emma got to school right on time, and then she rushed into the classroom, the sound of chatter and rustling papers enveloping her. She slipped into her seat next to Regina, feeling a mix of relief and accomplishment at having made it on time. The fluorescent lights overhead cast a bright glow, illuminating the rows of students eagerly awaiting the start of the lecture. Emma took a deep breath, smoothing out her notes and trying to focus.

"Hey, baby." Regina blew Emma a kiss as she greeted her with a huge smirk on her face.

"You're actually on time? Miracles do happen!! Emma teased. Shocking, right? She teased right back, which sent them straight into a ball of giggles.

Did I mention it was a Monday? Probably not. Regina is Emma's best friend, Gina for short, a red-headed girl who's got tanned skin and is at least 5'7. People called her "four eyes" because she wore glasses, obviously. Regina was there for Emma when her dad died; they've been besties since like 8th grade, and this kind act of Regina brought them closer to each other than ever.

Back to the present;

After a few minutes of chit-chat, Professor Jane walked in.

"Good morning, Professor Jane."We all greeted in unison.

"Morning, students. Hope you had a great weekend." She asked in response.

"Yes, ma'am." Some of us said politely.

"Good," she said with a radiant smile.

"Now we're starting off today with the importance of cost accounting," she said warmly.

"Emma," Professor Jane called, and she stood up, curious as to why she was called...

Last week we talked about the definition of cost accounting. Could you give me a quick reminder? She asked curiously.

"Yes, Professor Jane," Emma replied, her posture confident, her voice clear and steady. "Cost accounting is a branch of accounting that focuses on measuring, analyzing, and reporting financial and non-financial information related to the costs of acquiring or using resources within an organization."

Professor Jane's face lit up with a warm smile as she said, "Very good, Emma!" Emma's face flushed with pride as she smiled, feeling a sense of accomplishment.
