Chapter 20 - Prediction

Referee: Round 3 starts now!

Karson already plays his card.

Frank: Adam, Joe. Karson played No Action again.

Joe: Oh yeah? You think I believe you? Why would you share this information with us?

Frank: I used No Action so Karson won't be 8 points ahead of everyone, that's too much, I was rather playing No Action.

Adam: Then!

Joe, Frank and even Karson looks at Adam.

Adam: We should play something that is good for everyone who didn't use their cards, so the three of us.

Frank: That's a good idea!

Joe: Is there even such a move?

Adam: If what Frank says is really the case, then we all should play No Action.

Joe: Hey! Wouldn't that mean that we will lose points?

Adam: If you just look at your own points, it doesn't mean anything, you have to compare your points to the others, if there is someone who have more points than you, then 4 of the same card is positive for you because the point gap between you and the one who have more points will shrink, you will be closer to be the first. This is an equally good play for all of us.

Frank: Yes, that's right, so Joe, do you understand now?

Joe: Oh yeah. I see it now, so I shouldn't check how many points I have but the differences between me and the others.

Adam: Exactly! So? Are you in?

Joe: Yeah, let's do this!

Frank: Obviously.

 Adam: Then play No Action!

All three of them used their cards.

Referee checks the cards played, and stays silent for a while

While Greg and Todor

Greg: Is the referee acting that way because of what I think he is?

Todor: Yeah, I'm sure. Heh, Adam forgot about something.

....

Referee: Well, the results of the 3rd round:

Round_3:

Adam: No Action (9) -1

Frank: Action (9) +1

Joe: Action (11) +1

Karson: No Action (11) -1

Adam: What? But what? Why did you used Action?

Joe: hm, well, you were the one who said I should check the difference, it was very safe for me to play Action, it was like guaranteed for me to gain a point like that.

Frank: You just didn't think through it, it was obvious that for me it is much better to play Action. You... were... just... stupid.

Adam (This is really bad! I didn't think through everything. I overlooked, Greg... Greg wouldn't, he surely holding his head right now. How can I be this stupid? What should I do now?! I have no idea! What would Greg do in this situation?)

...

Todor: Adam looks really worried, even though his situation could be much worse by now. It's still the early game and only down 2 points.

Greg: I can see why he is like that, Adam is not the best at staying calm, he tends to overstress the situation or to overthink.

Todor: These are not too good attributes, especially for BWCG.

Greg: Although...

Todor: Hmm?

Greg: Adam is the kind of guy who tends to be his best in tight situations.

...

Referee: The results of the 4th round are:

Round_4:

Adam: Action (8) -1

Frank: No Action (12) +3

Joe: Action (10) -1

Karson: Action (10) -1

Adam(I'm done for, what... Why is this happening to me? Why can't I win a single match? I'm better than this! Greg, what would you do? Teammates? Do I need teammates? It's better right? to play as a team?)

Joe, who is sitting next to Adam, is ready to play a card...

Adam: Wait Joe!

Joe: Hu? What now, stupid loser?

Adam: Don't play your card yet! Let's make a team!

Joe: A team, you say?

Adam: Just like in the Records Of the Four Kingdoms, it's easier to win by playing in teams!

Joe: Hm... Well, I guess that is right. Alright, let's form a team. But don't think I will ever put your interest before mine!

Adam: Yes! Of course!

...

Todor: Forming a team? It's not as simple and useful as it was in the R.O.t.F.K. There are no multiple winners except if they have the same points which is not really likely. Also, if they play different actions they will have different probabilities of winning points which could easily end their teamwork.

Greg: Indeed. By that logic they have to use the same card to make sure they have the same chances. But the other two could get aware of that.

...

Frank: Carson. We should make a team as well! We have a lower chance if we don't!

Karson: Alright. There aren't any other options right?

Adam (What should I suggest? Should we do the same? But then there's only two possible choices and they could notice as well, what if? This might be it!)

Adam whispers to Joe

Joe: Alright... But if you're gonna break your promise I will do anything to make you lose!

Adam: No need to worry.

...

Greg: Does he have an idea?

Todor: Maybe, who knows, but it's still gonna be risky no matter what if they won't use the same cards. But at the same time, half of the game has almost elapsed, he better show what he is capable of.

Greg: Surely he plans something already, by the way he is acting.

...

Frank & Karson talking about the strategy they would use.

Referee: The time is almost up.

Everyone uses their card...

Referee: The results are:

Round_5:

Adam: Action (9) +1

Frank: No Action (11) -1

Joe: No Action (9) -1

Karson: Action (11) +1

The cards got allocated.

Adam: Joe, from now on don't keep your cards on the table facing downwards, let's keep it under the table.

Karson: Hey! Is that even fair? You're trying to cheat don't you? Why in the hell would you do that?

Referee: Calm down! There is no rule stating that you have to keep your cards on the table.

Karson: Tsk! But they obviously want to cheat!

Referee: Don't worry mister. I can assure you I will notice if anything like that happens.

...

Todor: Greg... I want to make a prediction.

Greg: A... prediction?

Todor: I have a prediction of how the game will end, but before I tell you... I want to ask, you gave him a pen and a few little sheets of paper, am I right?
