Chapter 67 - Cycle

Oli: Do I really have to watch it? Watch one of you die eventually?

Mratni: Yeah, and one of us will, there are no exceptions. Also, no resuscitation, any of us dies, will stay dead forever, if the loser of the game would get resurrected, then the bracelet he is still wearing would explode right off the bat.

Todor: When will we play though? It seems like you forgot to mention.

Referee No.1: The start of the match will be at 11 AM June 11th, so tomorrow.

Todor: Tomorrow? So are we still following the system as before? Is the game we will play be explained now? Also, so far it was you Mratni who made the games, so what about now?

Oli: Yeah really! It would be unfair if it would be you who comes up with the game again!

Referee No.1: No need to worry about that, it's not the CEO who will decide what game they will be playing. Let me explain how we decide the game, it's important anyway and also a reason why we only will play tomorrow, you might need time for this. Basically, when a CEO takeover game happens, there is something that comes before it, which is a game creator phase. It will start from now and you have time until the CEO game starts. Both participants come up with one that the system has to verify as a worthy game to be the CEO takeover game. You won't play with those games you have come up with though, but the game you will play is... the game that the loser of the last CEO takeover game came up with.

Todor: That sounds fair like that.

Oli: So that's how you make sure there is always a game to play which is not made by anyone who could know the game. If player A plays against player B, then both of them come out of a new game no one did before, let's say player A loses, the game he made will be played in the next takeover game, smart. But... Can't the CEO just check what that game is?

Referee No.1: No, it's sealed so no one can get that information. Even if he would, the bracelet would also kill right away.

Mratni: I think that's it for today. See you tomorrow, oh and yeah, one last thing, your rooms are now up here, you can't go down 1 floor, it's locked.

Todor: ...?

Oli (Todor is already trying to read Mratni? I get it why though... Why are we forced to stay on the upper floor? There is not even any windows on this level)

After dinner, Todor went to sleep, even though Oli is not the one going to bet his life on a game tomorrow, he couldn't sleep.

Oli (genius side): Really? My other half is such a loser for not being able to sleep like this... This seems to be very interesting, from what I heard it also perfectly explains what happens when sometimes the winners suddenly go missing. They die, simple. Not as if it wouldn't have been so obvious for me.

Next day - June 11th, 10 AM

Referee No.1: I need all three of you to come here! I have a little information to share with you!

Oli (Only a hour left, can't believe this is actually happening)

Referee No.1: First of all, just like in the latest games, I will be the referee of the next match. Also, you will be playing on the roof.

Todor: The reason is?

Mratni: It's just a habit of the takeover game.

Referee No.1: If you are afraid about you two being exposed and seen by anyone, then there is no need to be. There will be a glass cupola on the roof, you can only see out from the inside but if you are outside then you can't see what's inside. The ramp is open already, how about going up now?

Mratni: If you decide to come up, one of us will never get back down alive, Todor.

Todor: Want me to back out? Won't happen.

All four of them, the referee, Oli, Todor and Mratni gets up to the middle of the roof.

Referee No.1: I will tell you the rules of the games at 10:50 and then set it up and start at exactly 11 AM.

Todor: You look calm, are you that confident of yourself?

Mratni: No, not at all. I just don't feel like I have anything to lose.

Todor: But you are the CEO? I really think you do.

Mratni: You know, I don't like the way society works, I mean, for me it's too strict. When I was just a kid, I ran away, I went missing, they searched for me but couldn't find me. All my ID's and everything eventually expired, I became legally dead, I was only me for myself, but it was so much worth it. Even now, I only have the referee, no one else knows I exist. This is very peaceful this way, there is only a few rules to obey to. So I don't feel like I need to worry about losing anything.

Todor: I'm sure you have a quite interesting life, but also we don't really have the time to discuss it, and we will never have.

Mratni: Don't try to sound as if you would be actually sorry for that. Tell me, is it your first time risking your life for a game?

Todor: It is.

Mratni: It's quite a special experience, you will surely like it.

Todor: If you say so.

....

Referee No.1: Only 5 minutes until the explanation of the rules, I think it's time I lock this bracelet on your wrist.

Todor stretches out his left arm to the referee.

Todor: Do that.
