"Mom, what are you doing here?" Raya asked, her voice instinctively guarded.
"To see you," Juliana replied gently, her smile warm as Raya stepped aside to let her in.
Juliana moved into the room like she belonged there, her eyes sweeping the space briefly before settling back on Raya. "How was last night?"
"It was fine," Raya said, keeping her tone neutral.
Juliana hummed softly, as if satisfied. "Did you do anything?" she asked lightly. "Adrian left at dawn. I was wondering… is he upset?"
Raya's gaze sharpened. "Of course he would be, Mom. Whatever you did last night, it was dangerous.... dangerous enough to get all of us killed."
Juliana's expression faltered, hurt flickering across her face. "I did it for you," she said quietly. "Everything I do is for you."
Raya exhaled, forcing her shoulders to relax. "I'm sorry, Mom," she said after a pause. "But drugging Adrian and me isn't the right way to secure your daughter's relationship."
