"Because I'm the guest. If you won't share the bed, then it's only fair I sleep down there." Hana smirked, inwardly triumphant. Let's see how he likes being teased for once.
Kai folded his arms. "Wouldn't that be uncomfortable?"
"Not at all. We used to share a bed when we were kids, remember?"
"That was when we were kids," he countered smoothly.
"Oh, really? But you kept calling me your little sister today. Are you suddenly changing your mind?" Her smile was sly, almost daring.
Kai's lips curved. So that's how you want to play it? "Alright." He calmly returned the duvet to the drawer. "Let's go to bed, then."
Hana blinked, caught off guard. She hadn't expected him to agree. I just wanted him to see I'm not a little girl anymore… not actually—
Kai chuckled inwardly at her stunned expression. Two can play this game, Hana. And I don't lose.
He sat on the bed, placed his phone neatly on the side table, adjusted the AC, then patted the space beside him. "Come. Let's sleep."
Her heart kicked into its now-familiar rhythm, hammering wildly. Sharing a bed with Kai had once been innocent. Now, with the way he looked in soft pajamas, the clean scent of him filling the air—she wasn't sure she'd sleep at all. She slid in beside him, keeping to the very edge of the mattress.
"I forgot to mention…" His voice dropped, playful. "You look great in those pajamas."
Her cheeks heated instantly. "Thank you."
"Should I lower the AC? You look a little flushed." He reached for the remote.
"No, thank you!" she blurted, diving under the sheets to hide her face.
He chuckled, settling back beside her. "Let me know if you get cold."
She peeked out—only to find his face far closer than expected.
"Can you turn off the lights?" he murmured, eyes still closed.
She clapped twice, plunging the room into soft darkness. Yet even in the shadows, she could trace the line of his jaw, the steady rise and fall of his chest. Her heart squeezed. Why do I want to kiss him so badly?
"Can't sleep?" His eyes opened suddenly, catching hers.
Startled, she shifted back too fast, nearly rolling off—until his arm shot out, pulling her against him.
"Are you okay?" His voice was warm above her head.
She looked up, breath unsteady. "Yes."
"If you're uncomfortable, I'll sleep on the floor," he offered.
She shook her head quickly. "No… it's nothing like that. I just got startled."
"Then don't sleep so far away," he teased lightly. "It hurts my feelings."
Her lips parted. "…Okay."
He smiled, tucking a pillow gently under her head. "That's better. Should we count sheep until you drift off?"
She shook her head with a shy smile. "No. I'll sleep now."
Kai studied her face for a long moment, then closed his eyes.
But Hana lay awake, her heart racing, her thoughts tangled—sleep the last thing on her mind.
