Joe's POV

The sun had dipped low behind the Office, painting the sky a dull amber, but the ache in my head hadn't gone away.

I sat at my desk, my arms crossed, pretending to focus on the final report in front of me. But my eyes refused to move across the words. My thoughts weren't here. Not with the numbers, not with the pile of unread approvals.

They were still stuck to this morning, on how I snapped at Ivan.

He didn't deserve that. He was just trying to help, trying to lighten the weight on my shoulders. And I repaid him with anger.

I closed the folder and stood.

Yeah, I needed to fix that.

The halls were quieter now. Most staff had either closed for the day or were winding down. My footsteps echoed against the tiled floor as I made my way down the west wing where Ivan's office was. The guilt in my gut throbbed harder with each step.

I stopped at the door, lifted my hand, and knocked lightly this time.

But he didn't answer
