Adrenaline still buzzed in my veins, but beneath it lay a dull ache. His words echoed in my head.
"As for you, Lily… I have no choice but to trust you, since I cannot live without you."
Everyone else, Xavier, Sonia, he had praised them for their loyalty, their courage. Me? I was the burden. The one he trusted not because of anything I'd done, but because he had no other choice.
I swallowed hard, keeping my eyes on the floor so no one would see the heat burning in them.The embarrassment I was feeling. Downtrodden. Like a tag along to a destiny I never asked for.
Well it's not like I asked to be here.
Xavier's voice broke the silence. "Alpha… if there's not going to be a war, then what? The Red Moon pack won't just sit still. Whether we attack or not, they'll find a way here. They'll force a confrontation. You can't just ignore that."
