Chapter 5 - The Guardians

The next day, Ehtra woke up excited and tested her first hypothesis, whether she could really detect a lie or not.

It was the weekend, so her younger brother was present. So she directly asked Ehtan something that she was sure he would lie about. Ehtra always knew that whenever she gave her younger brother money to buy food for himself, he would always save it as much as he could, despite being hungry. Ehtra didn't want him to be like that; she deeply appreciated her brother's thoughtfulness towards her, but providing for him and her grandma was the whole point of her doing a job.

"Ehtan, did you use the money I gave you to buy food for yourself? Are you sure you did not get hungry during your time at school?" Ehtra asked kindly.

"Yes, sister!" Ehtan said truthfully, but there is another thought inside his mind that he didn't want his sister to know, but Ehtra clearly heard due to her lie detection powers.

I really did buy some food yesterday, but just enough not to make me pass out. I saved most of the money yesterday, in case of an emergency in the future.

Hearing the thoughts of her younger brother, Ehtra nodded sadly in response to Ehtan. Her younger brother was always thoughtful towards their family's condition, not enjoying the joy of being a kid.

She also confirmed her hypothesis with this; she really had the power to detect lies.

--------

Continuing her work at the junk shop, Ehtra was currently scalping the metals she scavenged at home and from their neighborhood to make some extra income. After weighing the metals, it only cost 50 Lehr despite it being so heavy.

Sighing after getting the money into her hands, she silently put it into her pocket and did her work, which was to organize all the metals into their designated place and cast away all their useless parts.

An hour later, suddenly, there's a news update again, related to their government's current state, everyone immediately surrounded the television, deeply invested in the news. This is also because it's their only way to know such news, since everyone was poor and the junk shop was one of the few places in their area that had a television.

On the television, someone introduced himself as the House Speaker of the government. He then announced his desire to be the next president since their country needed an immediate substitute for the president because of the sudden death of the former president.

He then presented his platform and promised that the country would flourish under his lead, which is a total lie, and Ehtra could clearly detect it through the television screen. That House Speaker was actually one of the allies of the former president.

Heh! This guy was clearly lying without batting an eye. Should I try my second hypothesis on him? To confirm if I really have doomsday-tongue?

Ehtra thought while smirking and intently looking at the person on the television. She then made up her mind to do so since this person deserves to die anyway. Besides, she never had a soft heart, especially in the face of evil. Hence, she said in her head with conviction, Die!

Lo and behold, the House Speaker, similarly to the former president, died on the spot. Confirming that Ehtra really had a doomsday-tongue that was able to put an end to anyone's life with just her one word.

Everything was in chaos again with the repetition of such an ordeal that shocks everyone except Ehtra herself, but she made sure not to be obvious about it and tried to gossip with others around her.

"What exactly was happening to these government officials?

"Don't you think this was not just a coincidence but these people's karma?"

"Yes, you're right. These people were obviously the ones corrupting our public funds and making our country poorer and poorer."

"They kept lying to our faces without even batting an eye. Serves them right! Karma is a bi--h!"

"Hopefully, the next leader of our country will finally be a good one. Please!"

"Manifesting! Let us all pray for that to happen!"

--------

Going back to her work and finishing her unfinished work earlier due to the news. Ehtra continues to work as if nothing happened.

While organizing the pieces of junk metal, a shiny object suddenly flashed and caught her eye. She immediately picked it and hid it in her pocket, making sure that no one saw her.

Finally finishing her work, she sits on a huge tire and rests. Gasping for some air and wiping the sweat on her face using the inside of her clothes, since that was the only part of her clothes that seemed to be clean.

Having enough rest, her thoughts went back to the latter part of the people's gossip earlier.

Everyone wants and hopes for a good leader.

Is there something she can do using her powers to make it happen? Definitely YES!

But she needs to make a thorough plan.

She then remembered the shiny object in her pocket and smirked.

(Lehr was the currency of Lesthrea)

-------

Going home after, she had a very simple dinner and immediately went to sleep, completely forgetting the shiny object out of too much tiredness from all the work she had done throughout the day.

A few minutes later, in her dream, she saw herself in front of 7 different colors of light. They are blue, black, red, green, yellow, brown, and white. The lights circle her a few times, then finally engulf her as if bestowing her their powers, and a task that she could only do.

Once all the lights entered her body, a thought was sent and engraved into her mind;

Child, we have chosen you as the one who will bring forth the true rise of Threa.

Hence, we've bestowed upon you a portion of each of our powers. You're quest to end evilness around the world is about to start. We placed our trust and hope in you!

"But why me?"

Ehtra was shocked but was still able to ask, unsurely.

Once she asked this, magical creatures came out of nowhere, and one after another said,

Because you are you.

A thousand years ago, it was prophesied that greed would prevail with the occurrence of human civilization, and we can not do anything about it because it is the law of nature and the degree of the Highest Being.

Besides, you are also the chosen guardian of the Lesthrea continent; you awaken those powers because that is what the people of Lesthrea really need. The male griffin guardian said seriously.

The voice stopped as if to let Ehtra process whatever the voice said. After a few seconds, someone else then continued.

According to the prophecy, greed will prevail, and to save the Threa, a child with powers from Lesthrea will be born. There was no definite sign when the prophesied child would arrive, but the guardians of the continents, we, the magical creatures, will know once you awaken you're powers. Hence, here we are. The male dragon guardian said.

Due to that prophecy, the magical creatures decided to disappear and not associate themselves with human beings, since we would be the very first to be endangered if humans found out our magic. The female Pegasus guardian said.

The guardians then, one after another, explained to Ehtra the danger that the whole Threa was facing.

Since human greed continued and natural resources, the elements, were overused and on the verge of being depleted, it also reached and affected the magical creatures, since all the magical creatures relied upon the elements. The female mermaid guardian said.

The unicorns relied upon the ice element, but due to the continuous global warming, the continent of Arethrea started to break into large chunks of ice. Affecting the lives of unicorns hiding in its fathomless and unknown area. The male unicorn guardian said.

The griffins relied upon the rock element. But due to the Nonthrea continent's continuous exploitation of rocks to produce gemstones, we were greatly affected. Disturbing us from our hiding place and destroying the ecological system. The male griffin guardian said.

The fairies relied upon the plant element. We are hiding in the very root of the vine, protecting the whole continent of the Soethrea. Everything is fine, but as the leaders of its countries started to become greedier and greedier. They turn to using low-class products to nourish the vines, which started to make the vines rot instead, endangering the fairies and their habitat. The female fairy guardian said.

The dragons relied upon the fire element. The continents of Asethrea had many volcanoes, and that was where we had been hiding all this time, but the people's greed increased, and they found out that volcanoes were also a great source of minerals and gemstones. Hence, they started to disturb the volcanoes, not knowing their impending activation due to this constant disturbance. Which would endanger everyone. The male dragon guardian said.

The mermaids relied upon the water element of the Erethrea continent, but due to excessive marine exploration and excessive exploitation of marine life. Mermaids hiding in the deepest ocean were not just endangered, but also all the marine life. The female marine guardian said.

The Pegasuses relied upon the wind element of the Afelthrea continent. But due to the increasing population of tourists coming in and the increasing production of aircraft, the air was crowded and filled with pollution. Pegasuses were also being endangered of being found out from our hiding place due to the increasing numbers of aircraft since our hiding place was at the top of the tallest sand mountain in the Afelthrea continent. The female Pegasus guardian said.

Then lastly, the male bunyip guardian said, Luckily for my people, the people of the Usethrea continent, we do not have an issue within the citizens since animals and humans coexist harmoniously. But we could not say the same with the people of other continents who started their moves recently towards the Usethrea continent, their greedy hands want to take a hold of those powerful-looking animals, wanting them to be their mere pets. The last part was said with gritting teeth.
