"Christopher was in love?" I asked now curious.
"He used to be happy, very happy but that all changed when she died."
"How did she die?"
She sat in silence, staring blankly at the wall. Her mind appeared to be somewhere else, as if recalling what happened.
"Somethings are better left unsaid," she gave a faint smile.
Damaris radiated warmth and comfort, making you feel at ease in her presence. Her smile was genuine and inviting, putting you at comfort the moment you meet her. She had a calming presence, and her voice was soothing, like a gentle breeze on a summer day.
When you talked to her, she listened attentively, her eyes locked onto yours with interest and understanding. Her body language was open and relaxed, making you feel like you're chatting with an old friend.
And that's the reason I liked her, She did not keep me in the dark like Christopher.
"Does that mean Christopher likes women? I finally said breaking the silence.
"Of course he does," she laughed,"Don't tell me you believed in those rumours that he liked men. If he found out he would be furious. "
I couldn't help but recall yesterday's event..He was so close to me that I could smell his cologne..and the way he held me with his strong arms. Our lips almost touching.
I froze, my eyes widening in embarrassment as I realised what I was thinking about. I was raised right, my parents taught me on how to be a descent and respectable young lady. If they ever found out what I had been thinking about, my mother would have a heart attack.
They would be so disappointed if they saw me right now admiring a man I was sent to get rid of. It was such a shame that a face like that would not exist in the world anymore.
"Why is your cheeks all red," she gave a suspicious look," what are you thinking about?"
"No one." I said fast not wanting her to dwell on the topic. "So are the other rumours about the King true? That he's the devil himself?"
She appeared to be surprised by that question. "Christopher is not who you think he is, none of us are. One thing about him is that he never forgives those who cross him. And there's something about us that you'll find out eventually. But I have to warn you, no matter what happens you should never Fall in love with him." She said, her voice dripping with warning.
"Why?" I swallowed hard
"You'll find out soon enough, just not today. So about those concubines..." She said smiling as she stood up.
