Chapter 141 - The reveal

I didn't tell Harper everything.

I'd only given her what she needed to know—that I was the actual CEO of GenVanta Group, not Richard, who served more as a proxy than anything else.

Richard's sharp cough pulled me out of my thoughts. We were in the boardroom. He had called for an all-hands board meeting—executives, board members, legal counsel, senior investors. Everyone who held weight in the company was here.

And as usual, every eye was on me.

Not Richard, despite him being the one with an important announcement to make.

Me.

I ignored the tension in the room—the barely masked contempt, the silent questions, the unease that always followed wherever I went in this company.

I leaned back in my chair, gaze fixed on Richard as he opened the folder in front of him.

"Let's begin," he said.

He didn't get the chance. One of the directors, a man near the center of the table, leaned forward. His voice echoed across the room.
