Chapter 5 - ENEMIES CLOSER

RAPHAEL

The moment he pushed Gabrielle into the arms of her step brother, all he could see was shock written all over her face.

Her lips faltered. "How could you do this to me?"

And then tears came.

Jeffery handed her to one of the reluctant looking Betas.

"Take her to the pack prison and make sure she is locked up until I have given further instruction." Jeffery said.

"Yes sir." The Beta bowed and soon she was dragged away by the rest of the wolves.

This time she didn't struggle, her eyes were focused on him.

The moment she was out of sight, Raphael turned to Jeffery.

"He is dead."

It wasn't a question .

It was a confirmation.

"Yes he is." Jeffery nodded. "He made me promise to hand the pack over to her. Of course I lied."

"Good." Raphael said as he dusted off the spot on his suit where Gabrielle had wept.

He has always hated Darius.

He hated everything Darius has and represented.

From the get go, he had been in on it.

What Darius didn't know, was that everyone else wanted him dead.

Darius had more properties and wealth than the rest of the packs.

They all wanted their share.

Finally all that patience had paid off.

That was why he was certain that Gabrielle and her sister would have no one to turn to for help.

They were stuck.

"And what happens to her?" Raphael demanded. "The plan was that she was going to end the curse. When she married my son we would take power."

"You can't blame me for her being a crippled wolf." Jeffery said point blank. "No one saw that coming."

In the blink of an eye, Raphael had Jeffery by his neck pinning him against the wall.

The older man's strength folded the new Alpha like a piece of rag.

His already shifted claw against Jeffery's neck.

"Because you've become Alpha doesn't mean you can disrespect me." Raphael warned.

Jeffery was bleeding through his neck, darkening his suit and could barely even breathe.

"You owe me." Raphael warned him, low and dangerous. "Do you understand that?"

Jeffery was choking could barely speak so he managed a nod before Raphael let him go.

He came crashing to the floor and Jeffery coughed violently.

"Do you think it was easy for me to set up killing my best friend?" Raphael asked Jeffery as he adjusted his perfect suit as though nothing had happened.

Jeffery slowly got up to his feet.

"You hated him like everyone else." Jeffery said as he coughed.

"Yes but family betrayal stings differently. I'm sure the son of a bitch thought his children were safe with me." Raphael said. "Seventy percent of the pack is now mine."

Jeffery's eyes opened in disbelief. "Seventy?"

Raphael gave him a warning glare and Jeffery wisely shut up.

"You either it or I'll take the entire pack from you." Raphael warned. "Choose wisely."

"You expect my son to still marry that abomination? Next time, I think you'll do better than to have your asset become a crippled wolf." Raphael said and with that he walked away before Jeffery could answer.

In a matter of minutes, he was in Darius's room.

He stood right over him as he watched his best friend's body lie still in the bed.

Raphael leaned down and whispered. "I've always hated you my best friend and your children will pay dearly for that hate."
