Chapter 33 - Estate Developer(9)

As William calmly walked up the building, he saw many guards inside who seemed to be worried and scared. Come to think of it, the man outside fought alone the entire time; did he command his soldiers to stay inside?

'You're really trying to make me feel bad about beating him up? He's not even dead, so don't worry about him.'

He'd sigh as he reached the top floor. Xiao Wei was lying on the ground in cat form, next to a big chunk of steak that was the size of her. She seemed to be in a bit of a food coma, so William let her be.

Taking a look around his new home, it was rather nice. With several cushy sofas, a massive kitchen and fully stocked fridge, and enough rooms to fit the people who lived here. The walls were all painted snow white, and the tables and desks were made out of shiny white marble, giving the place quite a minimalistic and modern look.

'Power of capitalism, I suppose, or is it communism? Power of reading, I guess.'

William would suddenly remember something.

[William Wei]

[Alias: Truth-Seeker of Falsehoods]

[Victory Points:164]

The Victory Points of the King of Kings had been transferred to William manually, due to the fact that he was defeated and had exited the premises of the Fame Game, it was ruled as a technical death. Placing William into the top 10. Oh, and he just used the name alias as his writing competition name.

[Current Rank: 10th]

[1. Paintress of a Forgotten World: 403 VP]

[2. Echoic Slate of Emptiness: 300 VP]

[3. Insignificance of Mind: 244 VP]

[4. Azure Blue Dragon: 190 VP]

[5. Shadow Ruler of Darkness: 188 VP]

[6. Red Phoenix of Lava: 185 VP]

[7. Earth Golem: 183 VP]

[8. Spirit of Freedom: 181 VP]

[9. Pride: 169 VP]

[10.Truth-Seeker of Falsehoods: 164 VP]

'Pride...'

William would shake his head. It wasn't time to think about that yet; for now, he had to concentrate on setting this place up.

First up, the old residents of this place.

William would politely knock on a random door and hear a soft 'come in' from inside, so he'd walk inside and check up on the people there.

The room was dark, and many shadows were scattered throughout, though through the seek skill, William could make out what was going on.

The group of young women who were previously scared were now fully armed and looked at William with animosity.

William would sit on a nearby chair and cross one of his legs over the other rather sleazily.

"He's alive. Just in a temporary coma."

He heard several sighs of relief from throughout the room, some louder, some fainter, all the same worriedness.

Then he heard a fierce voice speak out from the shadows.

"So? What will you do with us?"

She seemed worried and ready to attack at a moment's notice.

William could only put on his most convincing, warm, exaggerated smile and hope for the best.

"Well, I won't lie to you, I am not the previous owner of this place, I don't protect people merely for the sake of protection."

He thought he heard someone crying, a child hiding in the back of the room.

"However, I respect people's work and effort. If you help out around the place, you may stay here, and I will reward you. I will not force you to do anything you don't want to do. If you fear battle, there will be safer tasks to do; if not, protecting this place is always a job well rewarded. I can use all the help I can get, so whattya say?"

*slam*

William would exit the room calmly. He had successfully secured some workers, both men and women!

He'd then sit down on the living room sofa.

'Huh, I guess the previous executive of this CVA building was really living the good life, huh, and they say this is a low-end one!'

He'd slap himself in the face, jokingly, of course.

'Alright, let's get back on track. This is where the real battle begins. From my estimations, the leaderboard positions are going to start rising exponentially, after all, the more people killed by others, the more concentrated Vp will become. It's actually a pretty smart way to incentivize killing. I have to give my props to the organizers. What should my next move be...Well, besides defending this place from the truckload of people who want to usurp me, it's just to gain as much Vp as possible. That's the only way I can proceed to the higher stages after all!'

He'd also check out his right arm, which had become noticeably more opaque lately, a sign of his infamy growing.

At this time, Li Jiaojie and Fei Kangzhen would have finished dragging Haralen Syerna's body up to the top floor.

Li Jiaojie would ask curiously

"Say, boss, why did you ask me to heal him?"

"As I said before, it isn't his time to go. Anyway, take a seat, boys, we have much planning to do."

The three of them would gather around a small coffee table.

William would be taking a sip of some green tea he had found lying around and decided to brew.

Li Jiaojie would sit upright and seriously, like a soldier waiting for his commander's orders.

Fei Kangzhen would be fidgeting with the buttons on his suit, nervous as always.

"Sheesh, come on, guys, loosen up a little. We just completed our first big objective, didn't we?"

 "Sure thing, boss."

Li Jiaojie would relax his form.

"A-alright."

Fei Kangzhen would smile slightly and take a drink from his water bottle.

"So, now that the watchtower belongs to us, we need to push for the inner rings. To do that, we need as many Victory Points as possible. And the most efficient way of gaining those is by murder. So what I really want to ask is if you two are up for it."

It seemed that William's words had sucked all sound out of the room; you could even hear a pin drop.

Surprisingly, Fei Kangzhen decided to speak up first.

"I-I'm not the biggest fan of it."

'Well, fair enough, he's still a kid.'

Fei Kangzhen would continue and say.

"B-before I continue with this, there's something I want to do first."

"Oh, and what would that be?"

"I-I'd like to try to find my parents..."

Li Jiaojie would also begin to speak after seeing Fei Kangzhen voice his true opinion.

"I'd also like to see if my loved ones are still around. After I joined the sect, I never really saw them. I'm thankful for all you've done for us, boss, but I'd like to take care of this first."

William would nod and say.

"Sure, go ahead! I don't want company morale to be down after all!"

Both Fei Kangzhen and Li Jiaojie would get up and bow deeply as a sign of appreciation and respect. Before departing.

Not too long after the people he had hired from the rooms came out, the ones wanting to leave left, and the ones wanting to stay went out to prepare for their jobs, taking care of the watchtower.

Soon after that, Xiao Wei got up from her nap and headed outside for a walk.

The opportunist, the amnesiac, and the cat had all left for now.

All of a sudden, it was just William inside the top floor of the watchtower, drinking a now lukewarm cup of green tea with an empty expression on his face. He would look down into the teacup and see the same old monster he saw every day in the mirror.

[Attribute: Monster, wavers.]

The only noise now was the sound of tea being sipped and the soft ticking of a clock. The only ones he could truly call friends.

Hahahaha.
