Chapter 34 - Control(10)

Staring at the ceiling, William would feel himself drift off to dreamland.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Fei Kangzhen would be walking in a rather empty street, wearing a mask.

After a while of walking, he'd turn left into an alleyway and navigate through a couple more roads to reach a rundown looking apartment complex.

He'd be humming a rather melancholic sounding song, carefully tip toeing up the stairs to the 4th floor, before walking to the door labled 404 and knocking.

After a while, the sound of footsteps could be heard. Someone ran over to the door other side and looked through peephole, before opening it.

"Feifei! We've missed you so much!"

Fei Kangzhen's parents were alive and well. However, he didn't seem surprised at all, in fact he seemed unusually calm.

"Y-yeah, it's good to see you too."

His mother would grab his hand and drag him into the living room, which was rather average-looking, just a grey couch and a clear glass table with a tv across from it.

"Sit down, oh you must be so tired!"

Fei Kangzhen would oblige.

His father would sit to the right of him and start chatting.

"So, how have you been son? I bet you've killed lots of people out there! How many Victory Points do you have?"

His mother would chime in with a wide smile.

"Have you joined one of the leaderboard members like we told you too? I hear the Paintress is rather welcoming!"

Fei Kangzhen would put on his best smile and say

"Well, I joined someone, and he just took down the King of Kings."

The two middle-aged parents would gasp in surprise.

"That's wonderful son! I hear that man was rather vile, keeping women up in his tower for terrible things. We're so proud of you!"

A sudden bullet would crash through the window, aiming straight towards Fei Kangzhen's mother. However, Fei Kangzhen didn't move a muscle, as if used to this.

Instead, his father would catch the bullet mid-air with superhuman speed even by verifier standards, before tossing it into the air. To which his mother would flick and send it flying at whoever shot it.

Fei Kangzhen would simply watch with a cold expression, this was what life was like with verifier parents, who were even less conscious of other people's lives than his boss. Who were the reason for the trauma from his childhood.

Yet, he still came back to see them, because they were his parents.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Li Jiaojie stood in front of a run down house, one that looked like it had been shot with a railgun. Before heading elsewhere.

'Remember...'

'Remember damnit!'

He took a left, then another left, then another. Ending up right where he started.

Suddenly, his jumped up in shock, seemingly recalling something important. He bolted off in a certain direction, jumping on top of rooftops to get there as fast as possible.

After many minutes of roof jumping, he arrived at an elementary school. It looked like it had been attacked. With the buildings being partially collapsed and dead bodies and blood being scattered everywhere.

'Heartless bastards...'

He jumped into the school premises and started to look around. He saw the corpses of many adults, but little to no children.

'No...'

He frantically dug through as many wreckages as possible, searching every possible place.

'I should have come sooner...'

He was on the verge of breaking down, when he heard the faintest sound.

"H-help..."

He immediately appeared where he heard the voice, under a bunch of bricks, dust and concrete. Before digging through the pile with an almost mad determination.

Eventually, he managed to find...A small child with half of her head mauled in pieces. She was familiar, his little sister.

He activated the Recollection ability and began to heal her horrific wound with tears in his eyes, he held his breath via pure concentration, determined to save her and disregarding all else.

However, while this scene occured he could not help but feel like something was watching him.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Back at the watchtower William had finished his nap and stretched as he woke up.

'Those two have their own problems to deal with...It's best I focus on my own for now.'

He'd head down the stairs to the ground floor, before finding the old residents of the watchtower. The young men and women who resided in the watchtower were chatting in a circle in front of the building.

"Alright people, we need to expand upon the old King's progress, and turn this sector of the outer ring into something actually inhabitable! For that, we need to secure as many areas around here as possible. Prepare yourselves, tomorrow we begin our renovations."

He'd bow before departing, his objective for this night was to go out on a hunt, to slaughter the threats in the nearby area so the workers didn't steal his precious Vp!

So he looked around the place and eventually found Xiao Wei sleeping on a railing, so he scooped her up and put her on his shoulder, she scratched and hissed at him out of annoyance but he simply ignored it.

'Onwards! The Night is calling!'

William walked calmly along the dark streets of the outer ring, hands in pockets. It was nice to have some peace and quiet once and a while, socializing was never his strong suit anyway.

He ventured to the local park, which was in surprisingly good condition given the state of the city. He gazed at the lustrous greenery with a soft smile.

'I wonder how that guy is doing...'

After sitting down on a nice oak bench, which was right in front of a massive open field, giving a gorgeous view of the sky and moon, he would set Xiao Wei beside him and just relax for a while.

"What a nice view. I can probably save the killing spree for tomorrow..."

He'd take the time to practice some Ingenuity styles, making a nice little half-top hat for himself, though it was glowing and rather ethereal looking.

'Hmm, both that King guy and Ka-Kaelus had colored Ingenuity, I wonder how they did that, might as well try.'

He'd jump up and stroll over to the center of the field, basking in the midnight moon's light. Before stretching his arms out and closing his eyes.

As he sensed the Ingenuity particles around himself, he'd start waving his hands around as if conducting an orchestra, manipulating the Ingenuity particles like a fluid stage performance.

After attuning with the Ingenuity particles, he would slowly open his eyes.

The colour of his Ingenuity particles was still colourless sadly. However, he was taken aback by something else.

[The aspect of the Reader of Lore.]

He could read the Ingenuity particles with his eyes, they appeared invisible yet colourful at the same time, he couldn't even begin to describe it, besides the fact that it was a truly beautiful sight.

As he gazed upon them with wide eyes, an idea came to mind.

[Bane of Existence has been activated!]

The wave of Ingenuity particles being pushed by William would ignite a greyish-black.

"So It's possible to artificially dye them..."

'If we assume they abide by the laws of conservation and indestructibility, these are the perfect medium for Bane to exist in, my bident already has some wear and tear despite it being a item made of that illusory text so this is a nice alternative.'

He'd continue practicing his Ingenuity manipulation like an angel of destruction dancing under the watchful eye of the moon.
