Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: The start.

When i woke up, the whole world around me was gone. Everything was replaced by a white colourless void devoid of life, with cold still waters covering the surface of what looked like land. I was cold, soaking wet in it. amidst everything a black card hovered in the air. weird symbols were engraved on it, it was beautiful but dreadful at the same time. While i looked at it, i felt like i was in a strange trance.

The hex's voice echoed out loud in void snapping me out of it.

[Conditions to unlock sealed chronicle as been met]

[You have obtained the chronicle]

[Shadow key]

Shadow key?,

what did it mean. Chronicles were objects which could defy the laws of the world. Just like how seekers were extraordinary, chronicles also were. Each one had a special enchantment that helped seekers survive and grow stronger.

There were many ways to get them but the known methods were either through the hex or special individuals chosen by the hex.

Since the hex mentioned conditions it meant that this must be the third way to acquire chronicles. My head ached slightly, the more i tried to understand the hex, the harder it became. Why did it have to come back into my life, its as if its gaze never left me. I cuddled my body up as a wave of cold left me shivering. Suddenly, the black card hovered in front of me, the moment my eyes met it, i felt a sense of ease. It felt like all my worries faded away. And like before, my body moved by its own towards it. I tried to stop it, but i felt safe. The moment my finger touched it. The void vanished, instantly replaced by darkness, the solid grounds which supported me dissolved, sending me into that darkness. The hex's voice echoed.

[Your trial as been initiated]

[May luck be with you]

Damnit, i kept falling, then as if a new world opened for me.

The world shattered sideways. Gravity weighed down on me more than before. My sight was useless in the face of the unending darkness. There was no sun, moon or stars, it was a world devoid of light. Like answering my wish, my sight suddenly changed, i could see and what i saw made me shiver. I was falling with no support straight into the ground. Changing the projectory at which i fell, i landed into pitch black sand, with pain surging into my body. It was a grand entrance i never expected. I was covered in sand from head to toe and a pitch black jump suit with matching shoes to fit it. It was the first act of kindness i received from the hex.

Aside from that, a question popped up in my mind, where was i. And how could i leave here as soon as i can.

I looked around, and what my eyes met was an edge, just a bit far away from where i landed and what existed beyond that edge was nothing but darkness. There was no way to escape this place, it was really good to know that anything i would try to escape was useless. Then like the world was trying to greet me, trees popped up out of nowhere and the edges disappeared, the trees itself felt dreadful like it was more alive than the world itself. And like the unwanted guest i was, things crawled out of the trees.

It skin was black like ash and broken like it was burnt. It was like a jaguar but eyes were hollow and evil, it lunged at me. Like the horrific events that occur to me previously had honed me, i dodged and took off, running through the trees. I couldn't stop since my life depended on it. branches and the backs injured my skin. Some how i found my self at a lake. Its waters glistined like it wasn't water, it was unnaturally still and amidst it was a sword, old and forgotten. Everything about it felt wrong, the fact it was there was wrong , yet, the sound of grunts and breaking trees, made me run for it, the moment i grabbed it and the moment the spawn appeared again my heart felt like it skipped a beat. The sword crumbled into white sparks and the beast lunged at me. I fell back into the lake and just by chance, it missed me. As despair fell in, words formed in front of my eyes, i didn't know what they met, before it felt like they suddenly changed go the language i knew. Bewitched by it i read it out.

"All that's left in this broken memory, is this forgotten blade".

The beast lunged at me again and the scent and colour of crimson blood filled the air. A long sword appeared in my hand and my body moved unnaturally, by a foreign instinct i swung with every ounce of strength i could muster to cut of the head of the spawn and the moment the water turned red, another spawn appeared. My body moved forward again this time faster, i could clearly feel the weight of the sword in my hands, instantly cutting of the fore limbs of the spawn. My mind bounced back to reality. My hand was stained with blood, a strange emotion filled up my chest. Something i had never felt before.

It was....Guilt

I didn't know when but a tear dropped down my face, rolling through the blood.

The beast lunged relentlessly for my head, but killed itself , skewered by the sharpened blade of that strange sword. A familiar voice echoed in my head.

[ You have obtained a ch..ronicle]

[You have slain Twilight beast, blackened soul]

[You have slain Twilight beast, blackened soul]

[Conditions have been met]

[A task as appeared]

[Find the secret hidden in the forgotten spire]

[Time limit: Unknown]

[Reward: A memory]

With that emotion and those words, it felt like something stilled and forgotten was just forcibly awakened. And the foundation of my world was going to be rebuilt. The sword fell, plunging itself deep into the ground and along with it i did too.
