Chapter 72 - The King's Treasure

The golem had two pairs of sharp 'legs,' which it was using to pierce the Earth Dragon's scales.

That said, the golem's design was rather strange. Each golem stood no more than three meters tall, with a body length of about five to six meters.

They had a single-eyed design, and what appeared to be the 'eye' was a round, spherical object that was clearly a giant gem capable of storing mana.

The golem's entire body closely resembled a giant lizard... but it had no hind legs, only two pairs of forelegs for attacking. Its rear half dragged on the ground like a snake, but if it were a snake, the proportions were far too short.

Just as Fíliya was about to observe further, the golems seemed to sense something and all turned their heads.

"Human... human... pri... prioritize... protection... prioritize... human... protection..."

The broken, mechanical voice reached Fíliya's ears, astonishing her that these golems could actually speak human language.

But before Fíliya could be surprised, the golems made a remarkably coordinated decision with incredible speed. Two of the five golems immediately split off and rushed toward Fíliya, while the remaining three took up formation and re-engaged the Earth Dragon.

"What the hell are these things...?"

Aura stared at the two golems that had stopped in front of Fíliya, completely baffled.

Although she could tell they were some kind of autonomous magical construct, she had never seen golems that could speak and make 'decisions.'

Fíliya, however, watched with great interest at the two behemoths standing before her. From the mechanical voice earlier, Fíliya easily understood that the 'programming' of these two golems prioritized the protection of humans. That's why, after discovering her, a human, these two golems had quickly split off to prevent her from being harmed in the battle.

However...

"Although they have a core logic of protecting humans, they seem pretty dense, don't they? Is it a problem of age and disrepair?"

Fíliya said slowly.

She said this because she noticed that ever since these two golems had split off to protect her, the remaining three were having trouble suppressing the Earth Dragon.

The Earth Dragon had a rather thick tail, spiked at both ends. Each swing of its tail left a visible dent on the bodies of the autonomous golems.

"Hey, hey, golem-bros, don't just stand here guarding me. Your brothers are about to be killed by the dragon. Go join the fight."

Fíliya raised her hands helplessly, then hopped up and down, reaching for the golem's eye-like orb, trying to make it understand her meaning.

"Combat... necessary... pro... protect human, necessary..."

Hearing that same low, mechanical voice, Fíliya could see that these two golems had no intention of going to support their 'comrades.' So, she could only turn to Solitär.

"Could you give me a hand, Solitär...? These golems are quite interesting, it would be a great loss if even one of them were destroyed... Can we end this quickly?"

At Fíliya's request, Solitär finally made her move. She simply raised her hand, and dozens of greatswords, each two to three meters long, materialized above the Earth Dragon's head. Then, like meteors, these materialized greatswords shot down toward the Earth Dragon's vital points.

Its seemingly impenetrable scales, like obsidian, were as brittle as paper before Solitär's mass attack. Soon, the Earth Dragon's body was riddled with greatswords. Its tail, its back, its four legs—even its massive head was generously gifted three greatswords by Solitär.

Hiss... The gruesome sight made Fíliya wonder if the dragon's brain had been completely scrambled.

Under such a terrifying assault, the Earth Dragon didn't even get a chance for a final, frenzied rampage. It was pinned to the ground like a pathetic fly.

The gushing blood stained the surrounding tens of meters of land, including the golems that had just been trembling before it, a deep crimson.

Seeing this... Aura's body trembled involuntarily.

Only now did she realize just how 'brave' she had been to provoke Solitär back then.

No wonder Solitär had said, 'Aura, if you value your life, leave now'... Looking back, Solitär hadn't just been holding back; she'd been holding back an entire ocean.

The gap between 500 years of mana and 1000 years was truly this immense.

In that instant, she no longer held any resentment for the times Solitär had bullied her with a few punches and kicks.

She... was probably the most pathetic of the great demons. If it weren't for the fact that her innate magic was so perfectly suited for war, she might not have even been chosen by the Demon King to be one of the Seven Sages...

Thinking this, Aura couldn't help but sigh.

"Wow, what a luxurious way to fight."

Miss Fíliya also offered her assessment of the scene before her.

This was the first time she had seen Solitär use her true strength. After all, Solitär's previous daily spars with Aura were just petty squabbles using Ordinary Attack Magic.

"But Solitär, I feel like you could improve this magic a bit,"

Fíliya added.

"Hm?"

Solitär cast a curious glance her way.

"Hmm, greatswords are certainly effective against large targets, but they'd be hard to hit a mage with, wouldn't they...? Instead of creating dozens of greatswords, why not make several hundred one-handed swords, or other weapons... like long spears. That would increase your attack coverage, and the visual effect would be even more spectacular,"

Fíliya said excitedly.

Solitär merely nodded calmly, acknowledging she understood.

Although Solitär loved to research magic, she had never been particularly keen on 'combat.'

For one, it had been a long time since she'd encountered an opponent who could force her to use her full power.

For another... deep down, she had no desire to fight a powerhouse who could threaten her.

Just as Fíliya had said that night.

Solitär admitted she was a coward, terrified of death, and would never dare to engage in a life-or-death battle with an opponent of the same caliber.

"Hm? I sense you're not very interested, Solitär... By the way, what's this magic of yours called?"

Seeing Solitär's lack of enthusiasm, Fíliya decided to continue the conversation.

"...'Magic of Sword-Wielding'?"

Solitär touched her chin. She had never considered giving a name to this attack style of creating and launching weapons.

"Not cool at all. Listen to me, let's just call it 'King's Treasure',"

Fíliya suggested with a serious expression.

"?"

Solitär tilted her head.

"Is there some special meaning to that name?"

"I don't know, but it sounds impressive, doesn't it?"

...And so, the name of Solitär's magic was forcibly changed by Miss Fíliya.

After finishing her chat with Solitär, Fíliya finally turned her gaze to the golems that had gathered before her.

"Alright, now let me see what kind of structure you have."

Fíliya licked her lips with a smile, her hands moving eagerly, rubbing together like a praying mantis.
