Currently outside the city:
The battalion made up of five companies of one hundred elite mages, had just crossed through a side entrance and out into the front of the city, ready to meet the attackers head on.
The Emperor Mages using magi-tech communication devices attached to their helmets relayed their orders and information to their troops, who also sported the same devices, to allow for easy communication on the battlefield.
They gave a recounting of the enemy numbers, the specifics of their current locale and their mage level. Once this briefing was done, the five companies split into smaller teams and moved with lighting speed, with the help of their armour, to the different reported locations of the enemy.
At the moment, the enemy was currently trying to breach the walls and failing, considering they were built with some of the toughest and most reliable materials known to this world. Materials that help with defending against magic attacks.
Some were still wiping out villages to try and make an example of Kyros, by killing his people.
While there were those that had set up a makeshift headquarters to try and organise their force, and hopefully succeed in their attack, so that they do not disappoint their masters.
They all knew if they wanted to break the curse of their talent and reach beyond their means - further than resource consumption could take them, the best way to do that was to join this organisation and serve a higher purpose and entity to hopefully be acknowledged and rewarded if they did well.
With this in mind they all redoubled their efforts.
Meanwhile, the Lightborn battalion went on a search and destroy mission, leaving the headquarters for last, the teams went after those targeting the villages and the walls.
While the Emperor Mages grouped up into their own team and headed the the headquarters, to deal with the leadership, a handful of Emperor Mages.
The teams that headed to the nearby villages recoiled slightly in horror at what they saw, innocents killed in the most gruesome way, it seemed they were attacked my magic beasts rather than mages. Limbs torn, faces fixed in agony, blood.... everywhere. Small cottages and hamlets blown to pieces, craters instead of grassy fields.
Suddenly, the enemy launched an attack from behind the buildings and the edge of the forest, a surprise attack.
However, the Lightborn mages were ready, they quickly equipped their mage weapon that they use to channel their mana, some a wand like Balin, some a staff, and some spears, daggers, and swords.
Then they moved, running with the help of their armour at speeds that defied the norms for their current level, and the great thing was, the armour was powered by magic crystals, so they did not need to worry about power usage and managing their mana to account for this.
BOOM!
The two sides clashed, a couple hundred Lightborn elites against a horde of cultists, King Mages, powered by the Abyss, deadly foes for anyone else, but for the Lightborn elites, those literally put through hell and an exception rate a barely a couple percent, along with their advanced magi-tech armour?
Well, these guys are probably one of the only force out their, minus some elite groups like imperial guards, with the skill to put these cultist's down. And put them down they did.
Spells flew everywhere, explosions shook the area, elements of all kinds could be seen from a distance painting the world in different hues of colour, blue, green, red, brown. Screams and shouts echoed like a congregation from hell, the cultists fell by the dozen, some unlucky Lightborn mages also fell, it was a battle of ferocity, especially considering the corruptive elemental powers of the cultists.
Wands fired, swords cut, spears stabbed, staffs slammed against the ground causing large area spells to decimate the battlefield, the once ruined sight of the village, now lay a barren wasteland.
After what could be minutes or even tens of minutes, silence prevailed, bodies were strewn left, right and centre. Some Lightborn, most cultist.
From an outside perspective, you could see mages clad in magi-tech armour, checking on their dead, while some were firing magic spells or stabbing swords and spears into bodies that lay on the ground, ensuring their death.
.....
Meanwhile, a couple of miles away from the battlefield we just witnessed, was another one, between another couple hundred Lightborn mages facing the cultists, more King Mages trying to find any weakness in the wall that surrounded Luminosity, to be able to breach and enter the city to wreak havoc.
The two sides met in battle, as yet another similar, violent scene played out, with surprisingly less deaths on the Lightborn side after getting intel on the cultists powers and strategy that was communicated to them by the other teams - through their devices.
Similar scenes were then repeated all around the outskirts of the city, as the teams moved from one group, some small, some large and fought, on and on, until they mopped up every cultist that was a threat to their home.
.....
However, the real confrontation of this battle was the one between the Emperor Mages of both sides.
....
As the Lightborn Emperor Mages approached the makeshift headquarters, some King Mages tried to delay them, that action just got them all incinerated by a red haired, red eyes that blazed with flames, fire user. A human woman, who had an equally fiery personality "Stupid weaklings" she said.
Paradoxically, a human woman with a serene aura and blue long hair and eyes, exuding a noble ladies image, said calmly to the red haired woman, as they walked casually to the enemy camp like they weren't about to have a life or death battle "Act with at least some decorum, you are in service to Lord Kyros Lightborn after all, Ericka"
The fiery woman, Ericka shot back "Shut it, Serena, you don't need to tell me the obvious, and not everyone acts or needs to act as insufferably calm and formal as you."
As these two women, Ericka and Serena were bickering, the other Emperor Mages in their group, all three men, one a lean, lanky, long armed elf, a little surprisingly rugged for an elf, it seemed as if he had grown up around mercenaries, this was Connak.
One, a demon with the classic black hair, but with orange eyes, and an average build and height, and seemed mild mannered, Asura.
Lastly a beastkin, Foxman, with a foxes head with striking blue eyes and a slim, lean build similar to an elf's, with a cunning expression on his fox face, along with sharp eyes, that seemed like they could see through you and work you out right away, he was currently twirling around daggers.
They all overheard their bickering and couldn't help a smile appearing on their faces, Connak, the elf, said with a rough sounding voice "Those two are polar opposites, I'm surprised they haven't killed each other yet. I guess that is what you expect when they both literally represent the opposite elements."
The demon, Asura, spoke "I don't think it is anything poetic like 'its because they use opposite elements' I think they just hate each other at this point."
The Foxman, Zero, spoke abruptly "I am with the demon" with a hint of mischievousness in his eyes as he looked over at the women hoping for a reaction.
The two women who were arguing moments ago, turned at the same time, then Ericka said sharply "What the fuck are you on about"
While Serena said "We can hear you, you know?"
The three guys started laughing, when suddenly, as they were nearing the headquarters, their banter was cut short, by five Emperor Mage figures appearing before them.
Before they could even speak, Ericka said to the rest of her group "These guys apparently have some unique powers, from what the teams have reported, I wonder what they will look like when I burn them? Will they smell different or burn differently? I cannot wait!"
As she finished, her group looked at her with knowing smiles like what this pyromaniac was saying was the norm for them, before Serena said "For goodness sake, Ericka, act like a functioning member of civilised society for once, would you?!"
Ericka just snubbed her before shouting at the enemies in front of them "You better put up a fight, I want to see what all this hype is about with your "little powers"
The cultists looked on with bewilderment before one said, "Watch your filthy mouth! These so called 'little powers' are blessings from the Abyss, and with it we will reach higher than ev-"
Before he can finish, Ericka shot at their group and shouted "BORING!" as flames accumulated around her fists which were equipped with large gauntlets, with red fire magic gems, allowing her to more easily use her fire element, while being made of a material as strong as steel, her mage weapon of choice.
As Ericka arrived, she swung her fiery gauntlets at the one she cut off, and slammed it right into his chest making him surprised by the strength behind her punch, as blood gushed out of his mouth, he flew backwards.
Ericka moved onto the next, swinging and kicking using her armour and gauntlets to the maximum, showing her unique way of utilising her fire element, to reinforce her body and turn it into a weapon of fiery martial arts.
Serena looked at all this with an almost exasperated expression, sighing "She really is a meathead, unsalvageable." She shook her head as she conjured long, sharp, water spears with her large staff, with a blue, circular gem resting on top of the classically designed magic weapon.
She then pointed it and fired at the enemy that was about to attack Ericka from behind.
She then looked at the others, and said "Quickly, lets not lose the initiative this meat headed, pyromaniac gave us"
They all nodded with weary smiles as they all launched into the fray.
