Chapter 12: Phoenix
A faint bird cry, seemingly nonexistent, suddenly resounded in the dark dream, like a guiding light.
At the same time, as this bird cry appeared, in a certain girls' dormitory, Jean, who was in a deep sleep, unconsciously parted her lips and called out a name.
"Aiden! Don't leave!"
"Aiden! Don't leave!"
As Jean murmured, strange, scorching marks, as if scorched by high temperatures, appeared on the walls of the room, spreading rapidly like mold.
Charles, who was handling affairs in his own room, suddenly looked up, instantly sensing a terrifying energy fluctuation.
"Oh no, Jean has lost control!"
Charles's expression instantly turned serious, and he controlled his wheelchair, rushing towards the student dormitory.
In the dream, the bird cry would appear every now and then, drawing Aiden's consciousness closer to the sound.
"Caw~~~"
As Aiden approached, the Phoenix cry became clearer and clearer.
Gradually, Aiden's consciousness once again felt an intense burning sensation he had experienced before.
"Aiden!"
Suddenly, a shout came, instantly startling him awake from his dream.
Opening his eyes abruptly, Aiden looked in the direction of the sound, seeing Hank rushing towards him with an anxious expression.
"Aiden, Jean has lost control, Charles needs your help!"
Upon hearing Hank's words, Aiden instantly understood the gravity of the situation.
Without even having time to put on his shoes and clothes, he ran barefoot in his boxers, following Hank upstairs.
Soon, the two arrived at a room in the girls' dormitory.
Inside the room, Charles was gritting his teeth, his fingers pressed against his temples, his face strained as he stared at the person on the bed in front of him.
On the bed, Jean's expression was very pained, her forehead covered in sweat, and her fair hands tightly gripped the bedsheets, creating wrinkles, as if she was having a nightmare.
Wisps of white smoke rose from the room's walls, and scorching marks, like mold, already covered all four walls.
However, perhaps because Charles had intervened, the spread of the scorch marks was not slow.
Seeing Hank and Aiden arrive, Charles urgently called out to Aiden: "Aiden, quickly calm Jean down."
Aiden, hearing this, didn't hesitate and quickly ran to the other side of the bed.
In fact, as soon as he entered the room, Aiden clearly heard Jean constantly calling his name, saying things like "Don't go," "Don't leave me."
Aiden finally understood why Jean had suddenly lost control.
He figured she must have known he was leaving and couldn't bear to part with him, leading to an emotional breakdown. Her Phoenix Force, influenced by her emotions, was drawn out.
Clearly, his image had already deeply settled in the girl's heart.
He was about to approach Jean to wake her up, but before he could even speak, a severe, burning pain instantly swept through his entire body.
"Caw~~~"
An even clearer Phoenix cry clearly entered his mind, exploding like a cannonball.
But this time, he didn't faint directly as he had before; instead, he gritted his teeth and persevered.
After more than half a year of training, and Jean's help last time, his telekinetic power was already much stronger than it was initially, which was why he was able to withstand the psychic shock Jean unintentionally released.
Gritting his teeth, Aiden endured the burning sensation and the piercing pain in his brain, inching closer to Jean.
"Caw~~~"
Another Phoenix cry, and Aiden was once again heavily impacted, his face instantly turning even paler.
Every time a Phoenix cry appeared, Jean would unconsciously call out his name once, which made Aiden both touched and very helpless.
He was touched that this girl was so dependent on him in her heart, but helpless that this dependence was a bit too heavy.
Fortunately, Jean's Phoenix Force was only a fragment of the Phoenix Force, and only a trace of it was drawn out in an unconscious state, so Aiden did not suffer any fatal injuries.
But even if it was just a fragment, it was capable of instantly killing powerful beings like Apocalypse, which was enough to prove how terrifying this power truly was.
After all, a fragment of infinity is still infinity.
Forcing himself through the impact of the Phoenix Force, Aiden finally reached Jean's side and took her small hand.
"Jean, I'm here, it's okay, I'm here!"
Aiden didn't directly try to push Jean awake; he was worried that worse things might happen, so he could only choose to call out softly.
He didn't know if she heard his voice, but with his repeated calls, the surging and violent psychic energy filling the room gradually calmed down.
Finally, Jean's body no longer exuded energy, and the signs of surrounding objects being scorched also directly ceased.
"Whew…"
Beside them, Charles and Hank also collectively let out a sigh of relief, their gazes falling on Aiden with a strange look, making him feel uncomfortable all over.
"You rascal, you really have a way with girls, even better than I did when I was young," Charles couldn't help but complain, and Hank beside him nodded in agreement.
Aiden couldn't help but roll his eyes, enduring his splitting headache, and waved his hand, saying, "I can't, I can't, my head hurts terribly. I'm going to rest first. Jean is in your hands, Professor."
"Mhm, go and rest well. You've worked hard this time."
Nodding, Aiden gritted his teeth, forcing himself back to the dormitory.
Back in the dormitory, as soon as his butt touched the bed, he couldn't hold on any longer. His consciousness relaxed, and he collapsed onto the bed, falling asleep in one second… "Aiden, wake up quickly, my dad has arrived."
In a daze, a voice entered his ears, and he instantly recognized it as Danny's voice.
Opening his eyes, he slowly sat up.
"What's wrong with you? Didn't we go to bed at the same time yesterday? How come you're only waking up now?" Danny asked, looking puzzled.
"Uh, something happened last night, but it's fine now." Aiden waved his hand, not intending to explain what happened last night.
He quickly got dressed, then began to brush his teeth.
A moment later, after finishing their personal hygiene, the two carried their luggage and arrived at the school garden.
At this time, there were already many people in the garden, mostly students and their parents who had come to pick them up.
Led by Danny, the two walked to a black sedan.
Standing in front of the car was a middle-aged man in a suit, quietly waiting.
"Dad!" Danny called out to the middle-aged man.
The middle-aged man also saw Danny and Aiden, and a gentle smile appeared on his face.
"Are you getting used to life at school?" the middle-aged man asked softly, stroking Danny's head.
"School is great, I really like it here. Oh right, Dad, let me introduce you to my classmate."
Saying this, Danny waved to Aiden, who was standing nearby.
"Aiden, this is my dad! Dad, this is my roommate and classmate, Aiden."
"Is this the roommate Danny often talks about? It seems they get along quite well."
Just then, a voice suddenly appeared in Aiden's mind, making him slightly stunned.
Had he awakened his telepathic ability?
