Chapter 32 - Chapter 32: Leap of Faith

Samuel patted Dottie Underwood's shoulder; her behavior was very submissive, without any dodging or resistance.

This was the truest expression of her inner submission.

"Do you want to leave here and see what the World looks like fifty or sixty years from now?"

Dottie Underwood, who had just found inner peace, was dumbfounded; her brain had lost the ability to command her actions, and she stood there motionlessly like a block of wood, staring blankly at Samuel with wide eyes.

What did that mean, he—he could leave the Void???

Dottie Underwood turned her head towards Old Loki in disbelief.

"Yes, he can!" Old Loki affirmed her guess with a normal expression.

Didn't they say the Void was the final end?

Didn't they say no one could leave the Void?

I haven't read much, don't lie to me!

"For us, the Void is a cage we can never get out of, either die or wait to die."

"But for him, the Void is a backyard he can come and go from freely; now do you know why I would collect the useless garbage you mentioned?"

The useless garbage referred to U.S. dollars and gold and silver jewelry.

Dottie Underwood took a deep breath, suppressed her shocked and restless mood, and calmly gave her answer.

"I will follow arrangements."

Samuel put one arm around Dottie Underwood and used the other hand to summon Mjolnir back.

"You only get one chance to betray me."

Samuel's voice sounded.

Just as Dottie Underwood was about to express her stance, she suddenly found that they had appeared on the rooftop of a tall building.

Looking into the distance, she saw buildings lined up one after another, and vehicles shuttling along crisscrossing streets, with people constantly coming and going.

What met her eyes was prosperous and lively, beautiful and charming.

"You gave me a new life; I absolutely, absolutely, absolutely will not betray You!"

Dottie Underwood might not know the saying about repeating important things three times, but she knew how to express herself better.

"Heard of a leap of faith?" Samuel walked to the edge of the rooftop and suddenly asked.

Dottie Underwood shook her head.

"Jump."

"Okay."

Dottie Underwood didn't ask anything, her face showed no hesitation, she took a run-up with her long legs and jumped directly from Samuel's side.

This building was over ten stories high; jumping down would surely mean death!

However, Dottie Underwood jumped, without hesitation, she jumped without looking back.

Although he knew she must have thought this was a test for her and that he wouldn't really let her fall to her death, this decisiveness and obedience were indeed astonishing!

The wind whistled, and Dottie Underwood watched the ground getting closer and closer, with no fear or worry on her face.

Just as she was about to perish, a pair of strong arms held her from below.

The sudden halt in her descent caused her to let out a slight groan of pain, but a triumphant smile appeared at the corner of her mouth.

She had gambled correctly!

Even from a ten-thousand-foot-tall building, as long as you say the word, I will jump without hesitation!

This jump gained trust and proved her value.

"This is Manhattan, New York, one of the forefronts of this era; go walk around, buy some decent clothes, and come back here to find me when you're done; I have a mission for you."

Samuel took out a bank card and told her the password.

The cash in the Void might not be from a specific timeline or Universe, and even if it were real currency, there was a possibility it couldn't be spent.

"Okay."

Dottie Underwood smiled as she took the bank card, chose a direction, and left with anticipation.

In the Void, Samuel asked her if she wanted to leave and see what the World would be like fifty or sixty years later, how did she answer?

I will follow arrangements!

Just now, Samuel told her to walk around by herself, buy some decent clothes, and come back to find him when she was done, how did she answer?

Okay!

This was a sign of their relationship progressing further.

The establishment of any relationship goes from strange to familiar, from reserved to at ease.

She had gained initial trust and proven her value, formally establishing a stable superior-subordinate relationship.

This 'familiar' mode would naturally make her mindset and behavior gradually become relaxed and at ease.

When she returned, Samuel planned to inject her with the Super Soldier Serum, so she could expand territory for him and train personnel.

The Red Room's training methods still had some merit.

Samuel, who was preparing to fly up and wait for her, suddenly noticed a foot sticking out from behind a trash can not far away out of the corner of his eye.

Someone was hiding behind the trash can?

Samuel walked over curiously, wanting to investigate, but the person behind the trash can seemed to hear him approaching, cried out in panic, turned around, and ran away.

"I didn't see anything, don't chase me!"

Samuel couldn't help but laugh, not knowing whether to praise this person for being smart or foolish.

It would have been fine if you just ran, but why did you yell? I wasn't planning to chase you, but with that yell, it sounds like you really saw something you shouldn't have, and now I have to chase!

Isn't this like 'a guilty person gives himself away'?

Figures intertwined, positions shifted; Samuel appeared directly in front of her the instant the shout fell, blocking her path.

"Ah--"

The girl wearing jeans and a baseball jacket was caught off guard, crashing into Samuel and falling backward onto the ground.
