Chapter 56 - Step 3:Obtaining knowledge (1)

"Oh, and when we do meet... I will attend to everyone who wishes to behold my presence."

Mason wished off to Amaris who was stunned for a moment as he then turned to exit this bizarre room.

Step!

"Oof, huh?"

Mason had taken no more than a step before he bumped knelt something slightly.

When looked down his eyes taught the reflection of something interesting.

The figure was shorter than himself, took a humanoid form and very much looked someone familiar to Madon.

Mason's lips curved upwards slightly as his brows raised slowly and he slightly tilted his head to his right.

He then moved his lips and his voice aired out, "My my this quite the suprise... isn't it... little one?"

Silence enveloped the room as no response came. Amaris sipped her lemonade like as if she were alone in the room.

But not long after Mason turned around and walked back to the table as he opened his mouth and said, "Seems like you'll be able to brief me about everything right here."

"Hm?"

Amaris hummed in confusion as her gaze immediately darted towards the kid that stood behind the both of them, but he seemed to look transparent. Almost as if he were a ghost.

She looked back at Mason said, "So that's the boy they persuaded, huh?"

Mason nodded in agreement.

Chunk, clink!

He tapped his glass on the table while looking at Amaris with a raised brow and a slight frown.

"Uhhh, so demanding...", she groaned in annoyance.

Snap!

"Thank you."

Slurp!

"Ahhh, just how I like it."

Soon the boy's image completely faded and when Mason noticed this, he opened his mouth once again and mused, "Since we have a little more time together mind briefing me more about this cardinal stuff that I'm about to engage in?"

"Oh and what makes you think I'll-"

"Entertainment."

"Huh?"

She mused again as the corner of left lip curved downwards as her slightly raised and the look in her eyes were more annoyed than intrigued.

"Haha... you see for a cosmic being like you... seeing us human frolic about and shoot each other and or fight each other must be amusing right?"

[PS: Mason's using his past knowledge from the comics and mangas he read before passing on.]

Amaris looked at the boy with no indifference in her eyes as Mason then took another sip of his lemonade and added, "So why not have an even more special kind of entertainment?"

"Special kind... tell me more Mason."

"Hnhnhn, I knew you'd be hooked." Mason mummered to himself with a devilish grin spread across his face.

"Something the matter boy?"

Shatter!

Amaris mused at Mason with a raised brow and frowned lip before instantly breaking the glass she held.

Mason noticed this and quickly stood up and strutted towards Amaris, grabbed a napkin and cleaned the little lemonade that fell on her hand in a soft and slow motion.

!!!!!

Shiver!

Amaris shivered slightly and gagged her hand away and turned her head as she pointed at Mason's seat with her right hand.

"M....., are you embarrassed?"

Mason expected a quick wave of Amaris' hand so as to... 'woosh' him out of existence. But...

Her snapped at him, her left hand rested on her face and the right pointed once again at the chair where Mason sat and she demanded that he sat down.

Tap, tap.

Screee!

Put!

"Explain boy!"

Amaris commanded but her voice carried so much weight Mason's body shivered and stiffened as he struggled to maintain his composure.

"Ok ok ok. I'm sorry..." Mason apologized.

After a while of struggling and sweating, Amaris' red face soon returned to its normal color as her hand pulled away from her face.

She took two breathes in and out and then gestured at Mason to continue his proposition.

"Mmm, M! Then let me continue."

Mason cleared his throat as he rested his hands on the table and continued, "You see the kind of entertainment that I'll deliver will all the more mysterious, thrilling yet annoying at the same time."

"Hm? How would that be so?"  Amaris mused with a raised brow.

Snap! slurrrp!

"Another for me, please?"

Snap!

Slurrrp!

"Ah... I love this thing how'd you even make it?"

Amaris didn't answer she instead looked at Mason as if expecting him to do something instead of waste her time with meaningless questions.

"Hehehe... you must think I'm tryna drag this on, right?"

"..."

"And your answer is a yes. And you know why don't you Amy?"

Amaris raised a brow and stared bluntly at Mason who looked back at her with an equally and sharply met response.

And for a while, none of the two moved or spoke to each other. Mason sipped away at the marvelous lemonade in hand as Amaris imply stared at him a mix of annoyance, wonder then exhaustion.

"Hah... fine... I guess I can tell you now, boy."

Amaris sighed as Mason then nodded his head with a blatant and victorious smile.

"But before to the details of the finishing touches I made to your cardinaes, may I be excused to ask you three questions on my mind?"

Amaris mused and Mason nodded in approval once again.

'At least she's kinder to me now... I think.' Mason thought as he sipped the lemonade once again.

"Firstly, and my most obvious question. How did you catch on to me?"

Mason put down the glass of lemonade and responded, "Its quite simple, you see when people are insecure of others, they can tend to... 'drag on conversions or make them as meaningless as possible so they can drive away or learn more about that person no less to say about those they also don't like."

Amaris stared at the boy once more, but she tried to hide the fact that she was impressed with a mere child's way of thinking. And yet he could see that she was both baffled and amazed because of his response.

"Hm..., okay. That seemed like a valid enough response. But here's my second question for you."

Amaris stated as Mason straightened his back and pulled the chair a little more into the table as he then nodded in agreement.

Amaris then opened her mouth and said, "You should be detailing me on your proposition so why no-"

"Because if I did, I'd be revealing the entire plot to you."

Amaris was cut off mid statement by Mason

'This boy... I knew that he was courageous, but... to think that he'd dare...'

"Hey."

Mason called out to Amaris with a deep dreaded voice that sent a shiver down her and this was the even more bewildering part of the situation she was in.

Amaris' grip on her glass tightened, but not enough to smash the glass into pieces.

'Ugh.... how is he able to-'

"Amaris, even you tried your hardest to cover up your act with these little questions to keep me preoccupied. You got to do a re-check on your strategy."

Tink!

A small yet sharp shatter erupted in the room as Amaris now gazed upon Mason with a tightened jaw and unmaskable furry that lit brightly in her eyes.

Amaris, in all her being and mind, the only thought and feelings that crossed her mind were, anger and "Destroying this kid, what if... what if I-'

"Nope, you can't."

"HUH?!"

Amaris' head snapped towards Mason who looked at her. Not with grief, not with anger now was there any hint of smugness in his gaze.

What Amaris saw was... emptiness, inside of his eyes, heart, mind?

No.

In his very soul, an emptiness that could not be filled with even one whole universe lingered and rested as if he had been born with it and it had been born with him.

Amaris' grip on her lemonade glass loosened and her temper loosened as curve tugged itself at the corners of her lips.

Mason raised a brow and took another sip of the lemonade, and it seemed to be his last as his gaze fell into the glass that felt a little heavy just a while ago had now been emptied of contents.

But... could the same be said for this lingering darkness within him? No one really knows...

"Hahaha. Ah... that was a spectacular performance boy..."Amaris chuckled as she swept her hair from her face to its original position which gave her an even more astonishing look.

"Oh, and whatever do you mean, Amy?"

"Hmhm, don't play dumb with me boy. You knew what I was attempting to do and so you decided that you had enough and needed the information as fast as possible, so you baited me into a fit so that you get me screw and... surprisingly my own goals suppressed those thoughts and so I lost track of what you were really up to. Or was that all a guess that you hoped would work?"

Clap, clap, clap!

"Your second estimation is the correct answer. It was indeed all a guess or hope as I may call it."

"Hahaha. Hahahahahahaha HAAA! Amazing boy, you've indeed earned yourself a reward."

"My arms are all open, Amy."

Snap!

Clink! Clink!

Snap!

Shwoop!

"AGH! My butt, my butt, my butt." Mason groaned as he fell butt first to the ground due the sudden vanishing of the furniture."

"Stop sulking boy. Or else I might think that's another part of your act. Now get up... its about time that..."

Amaris pondered as she snapped her fingers and...

SWOOP! SWOOP!

Two transparent orbs about the size a regular bolder appeared right in front of the two.

One was contained a slightly tangled long light blue chord while other contained a dark blue chord that was similar to the other.

Mason who was still rubbing his butt, caught glimpse of the orbs which took his full attention away like child who'd been given candy so as to stop crying.

And then Amaris stretched out her hand as she, "That I told you about the finishing touches I made."
