Despite being reluctant, Michael began walking towards the location of his workplace.
About 20 minutes later, he arrived in front of a gym called Pulse fitness gym. This was where he worked, at least, his base was located here.
Despite this place being a gym, there was a basement below, where there was an office that was dedicated for him to work as an accountant.
"Hmm? You got here quite early today." Just as Michael entered into the gym, he heard a rough voice coming from the side.
Looking over, Michael saw a man that had a burly frame, standing almost 2 meters tall, with two scars on his left cheek. He was wearing a black vest that exposed his bulging biceps that had skull tattoos, on both arms.
The bald head was quite shiny under the lights that were currently illuminating the inside of the gym. He looked at Michael with a scrutinizing gaze, his brown eyes filled with indifference.
"Yeah, I woke up a little early today, and decided to come over, as there was nothing that I was doing back at home." Michael responded calmly.
This person was none other than Dante. This was the guy that had hired him to work as an accountant. He thought that Michael was quite brilliant and an honest guy, deciding to assign the duty of dealing with the money to him.
It was not that the other gangsters did not know how to do some simple accounting. It was just that, Dante did not trust any of them.
Upon hearing Michael's words, Dante simply nodded before completely ignoring him and heading outside the gym.
Michael did not say any other word, simply greeting a few of the gangsters present within the gym, before heading towards another room that was located at the back of the gym.
When he got there, he pushed the wall slightly, which revealed a small hidden door. Behind the door was a staircase that led downstairs.
Bending slightly, Michael went through the door, before he pushed a button that was inside, which led to the closing of the door.
As the small door closed, above the staircase suddenly lit up with a bulb that faintly illuminated the stairs.
With incredible familiarity, Michael walked downstairs, before he got to a corridor that stretched for quite some distance, about 300 meters, with several doors on each side.
He looked deep into the corridor, but he did not head there. Instead, he turned to the door that was located on his left.
The door was not locked, requiring him to just twist the handle, before it opened. As the door opened, it revealed a small office setup, with an old desk and office chair, with an old desktop and a few files on top.
After closing the door behind him, Michael went ahead and sat behind the desk, before booting up the computer.
After inputting the password, he began his duty as an accountant. Even though he was referred to as an accountant, all that he needed to do was quite basic.
After taking the previous day's financial records, he began recording the information that was in a file that was next to the desk. This file contained the information on the money that had been brought in the previous day.
If it was just recording the transactions, it was actually not much of a problem, and could be easily done. It was just that, these transactions were numerous, involving small transactions that even included $1.
Each transaction had to be recorded clearly, which was the requirement that Dante had given. This way, it would be easy to be able to monitor the cash flow within the gang.
Simply put, what he was doing did not actually require him to think too much. It was just that, it was quite troublesome, as he had to do a lot of work repeatedly, which was quite tiresome.
Work progressed, and from inside the office, Michael could hear the sounds of footsteps outside his door. It was clear, the other gangsters were coming in and out of the basement.
Michael did not bother with them, and neither did they bother Michael. So, Michael simply focused on his work, wanting to complete it as soon as possible, before finally going on to do what he wanted.
It was not that he had not thought about leaving the gang after acquiring the money. It was just that, it was not that easy to be able to leave the gang.
Within this city, it could be said that most of the areas were dominated by gangs. Despite the Shadow assembly being a small gang, there was a bigger one above it, going on this way until there was the formation of a syndicate.
In fact, within this city, there were two syndicates that ran the underworld of the city. They included blood reapers and silent order.
Below these two major gangs were mid-tier gangs, several of them. The syndicate that he was working for, which was Silent order, had several subordinate gangs.
Below Silent order, there were the Dominion gang in charge of smuggling and black market, Phantom gang that was in charge of nightlife and entertainment, Broken oath which was in charge of slums and ghettos, then Havock crew that were in charge of tax collection and drug distribution.
Phantom gang had subordinate gangs which included Iron fist, Blood debt, and finally Shadow assembly, whose main headquarters was where he was.
Despite above this basement being a gym, with only a small number of gangsters, the security was actually tight.
In the buildings surrounding the gym, there was a considerable number of gangsters that were in charge of protecting this place. In case someone tried to cause havoc, those gangsters would suddenly sprout like mushroom after the rain.
At one point, which was just about a month ago, there was another gang that came to raid the place. Just after they arrived, when they were about to barge into the gym, several hooligans suddenly appeared, confronting them.
There was quite a battle here, which ended up even involving gunfire. In the end, it was only due to the intervention of the police that the battle ended.
As for the reason behind the clash between the two gangs, it all extended to the two main syndicates that wanted to eradicate the other, to dominate the underworld of Drenn city.
Even though the conflict between the two syndicates was there, it was not serious to the extent of fighting to the death. Instead, it always involved the clash between the low-level gangs below them.
It was for this reason that Michael did not make a decision of leaving the gang immediately after he got the money.
He understood, with the connections of the gangs here, it would be quite easy for them to be able to find him. And if he did not have the capability of protecting himself, he would only end up at a dead end.
Right now, he was thinking about exploiting the system to the maximum level possible. That way, he would have the capability of protecting himself from the gang.
He did not need to have the capability of dealing with the syndicates above. All that he needed to do was to deal with this small gang. He did not believe that those big gangs would be concerned about a small character like himself.
At the end of it all, there was nothing much that he did within the gang other than recording the financial records for the gang. Simply put, he could be replaced.
Bang!
While Michael was working, waiting for the clock to strike noon, he suddenly heard an explosion coming from above.
Even though he was slightly confused about the reason for the explosion, he thought, maybe there was another altercation between gangsters up there. Since it did not involve him, he continued with what he was doing.
Bang! Bang!
It was just that, he had not anticipated that the explosions would continue, which clearly were from gunshots. This made him tense slightly, with worry beginning to set in.
He wondered, could it be that there was going to be a fierce fight up there? If this gang ended up being defeated, he would also be implicated. At the end of it all, he was still part of the gang, even though he was working for them against his own will.
Just as he was puzzled, above him, the commotion continued for quite a while. Outside, Michael could hear the sound of footsteps, indicating that those that were in the basement were rushing up for support.
And about 3 minutes later, things seemed to have settled down. This made Michael feel relieved. If not for the fact that he would be implicated if this place ended up in ruins, he would not even care if all the gangsters above were killed.
But just as he was settling down to continue with the work, suddenly, he heard the sound of footsteps. From the sound, it was clear that there was quite a number of people that were coming to the basement from above.
Despite his curiosity, Michael continued with what he was doing, not planning to involve himself in whatever had happened. In fact, the less that he knew, the better.
In just a moment, the sound of those footsteps went past the door, and he could hear the sound of kicking of doors from the other rooms. This made him puzzled, could it be that the other gangsters had won?
Bam!
Just as he was wondering about this, the door to his office was suddenly kicked, making it fling open, before it crashed violently to the wall on the side.
Michael did not pay attention to the door that was almost kicked off its hinges, as he looked at the person that had appeared at the entrance of the office.
In his mind, despite the shock from the sudden rude arrival, Michael could not help but exclaim, 'Wow, beautiful!'
