Chapter 4 - Targeted

"What are you gawking at?!" A fierce and angry shout suddenly brought Michael back to his senses.

The person that had appeared at the entrance of his small office was a lady, who was stunning in terms of appearance.

She had blonde hair that was tied into a high ponytail, with cute brown eyes that were staring at him full of coldness. She was quite slander and tall, standing about 178cm.

But, the lady seemed to be quite young, it seemed that she was just in her late teens, or had just gotten into her early twenties.

It was just that, something that made her stand out was that, she was dressed in a police uniform. It was obvious that she was a police officer, which puzzled Michael slightly.

Previously, due to the continuous explosions of gun shots, he thought that maybe there was another gang that had come to attack.

But, it turned out that he was wrong. Something that was completely unexpected had happened. While occasionally, police officers would raid these places, they had never managed to get to the basement, at least during the time that Michael had been working here.

And now, seeing a police officer suddenly barging into his office, how could he not be startled.

It was just that, due to the surprise that came from how rudely the door was opened, and the stunning figure of the person standing outside the door, Michael was momentarily dazed.

"Ah, is there something that I can help you with?" Feeling slightly awkward, Michael asked, not sure what to say.

"You know your actions quite well, yet you are asking what you can help me with? You are under arrest, anything that you say can and will be used against you in the court of law.

In case you have a lawyer, you will be able to contact them after you get to the station." The lady, with a cold expression on her face, stated as she took out handcuffs.

Michael was left dumbfounded, wondering what the lady was implying. Was he not honestly working as an accountant here? Or, maybe, was it nowadays illegal for someone to be an accountant?

Regardless, Michael understood, the reason why he was being arrested by this lady was due to the fact that he was in a den of gangsters.

Since the police were here, they would inevitably arrest everyone that they found within the base of the gangsters.

It was just that, something that Michael found to be puzzling was that, it seemed that the lady really hated him. Though, he was not sure about what he had done to attract the hatred of the lady.

The police woman on the other hand did not bother to explain any further, as she entered, and put handcuffs on Michael's wrists.

Michael did not try resisting, as he understood, if he attempted something like that, the charges against him would only pile up.

But truthfully speaking, he was not that much worried. In any case, he was working for the gang, and considering the connections that the gang had, he believed that he would be able to get out of the station by the end of the day.

And if the situation turned out otherwise, he was not afraid either. After all, if they looked into his activities, he had not done anything illegal. So, he was not worried at all.

Well, he was not worried about being arrested. What he was worried about was the waste of his time. It was already a waste of his time working as an accountant, when he could have been studying in order to get store points.

But considering the circumstances, it was impossible for him to just ditch the job, which was why he was waiting for an opportunity.

But if he was taken to the station, and he ended up spending the night there, that would be an entire night wasted.

Looking at the calm expression on Michael's face, the police lady seemed to be even more irritated as she said, "It seems that you have already gotten used to being arrested. Not panicking at all."

Michael could immediately tell that she was being sarcastic, so, he did not respond. But, it seemed that this triggered her even more.

She aggressively pushed him forward, making him stumble slightly. Still, he did not say a word, cooperating with the arrest.

As he got out of the office, he realized that there was quite a number of police officers that had managed to get into this basement.

At the moment that he got out of the office, Michael saw some of the gangsters also arrested, with some even carrying bags that seem to contain something within them.

Without any doubt, Michael understood, it seemed that those were drugs. It was inevitable, this was a hideout of the gang, a main base to say the least. How could they lack illegal items?

"Kate, we are done here, let's get going." A male officer with a bald head approached Michael and the police lady before speaking.

Just like the other officers, he was also following behind a gangster that was cuffed.

The police lady who had arrested Michael, addressed as Kate, simply nodded, before she pushed Michael towards the stairs.

Nobody that had been arrested tried to resist, as they cooperated with the officers, before they were taken out of the basement, and outside the gym.

For the other gangsters, Michael guessed that it might be that they were confident that they would not be detained for a long duration, before they would be released once again. So, there was no need for them to panic.

As for Michael, the main confidence came from his actions, believing that there was nothing dirty that could be found on him.

The group was taken into the several police vehicles that the police had come in, before they were driven away.

Coincidentally or not, the vehicle that Michael was in turned out to be the same vehicle taken by the police lady who had arrested him.

It seemed that she was a partner with the bald-headed guy who had talked to her previously in the basement, considering that the guy was the one that was driving.

"What? It seems that you are quite angry?" The baldy asked Kate after a moment of silence.

"No, it is just that I'm quite irritated. There are a lot of things that people can do, but in the end, all that they can do is engage in illegal activities, for easy money." Kate responded coldly.

"Sigh!" The bald-headed police officer simply sighed in response to Kate's words. He did not comment on what she had said, simply focusing on driving.

Upon not receiving a response, Kate's brows furrowed. She looked at the other police officer, but it seemed that he had no intention of speaking at all.

In the end, she could only take a deep breath, trying to calm herself down. Then, through the rear view mirror of the car, she looked at the two people in the back seats of the car.

Her expression turned colder before she said in a low voice, "Some people are young, but instead of trying to find some opportunities somewhere else, they end up engaging in illegal activities. Tsk!"

At the end of her statement, she clicked her tongue in disgust, before she rested her arm against the window, with her cheek on her palm, simply focusing on the road.

Michael on the other hand, upon hearing those words, could not help but turn to look at the other gangster that was sitting beside him.

The gangster that was sitting beside him seemed to be a middle-aged man in his late 30s. From Michael's impression, he did not seem to be 'young', at least not the young that the police lady was trying to refer to.

That left him as the only option, implying that the police lady was referring to him. Still, this left him speechless, wondering, what he had done wrong.

To start things off, it was not as if he ever wanted to work for the gangsters. He had no other choice but to work for them.

Additionally, even though he was working for them, there was nothing illegal in what he was doing. Maybe, he was counting illegal money, but, that was it, it was not as if he was the one who was stealing it, right?

As for the payment, it might be the illegal money that he was being paid, still, was there not a gym located just above his office? He always believed, the little money that he received, it could easily come from the gym above.

While the gym was not frequented by many people, there was quite a number of people that usually visited the gym. So, how difficult would it be for the gym to be able to get an income of $40 a month? It had to be more, right?

Still, Michael came to understand, it seemed that this lady had some kind of prejudice against him. Well, it seemed that not especially him, but it seemed that she seemed to hate gangsters?

Though, that was to be expected, considering that most people really hated gangsters. Still, he felt, he was being innocently accused.

While Michael was lost in his thoughts, the car drove to the nearest police post. When they got there, everyone was taken out, before they were taken to the police cells.

It was just that, considering that the police post was small, the size of the cell could not comfortably accommodate all the gangsters that had been arrested. This led to the situation where, everyone was cramped in the police cell, without much space.

One by one, they were taken out of the police cell in order to record a statement, before they went back in.

In just a little while, it was Michael's turn. A coincidence or not, it was Kate who came for him this.

'What bad luck.' Michael could only curse in his heart at his luck with this lady.
