Chapter 20 — Lilith POV
The moment Davina dropped to the floor, I hurried toward her, gathering her into my arms. A gasp escaped her mouth. I slowly looked down, my heart pounding heavily at the sight of her blood-soaked gown. The arrow had hit her before I could move, and she was bleeding_bleeding profusely. For some time, I thought she was dead, but then she groaned.
"Help the Princess!" an Elder shouted.
"The future Queen of Malraux!"
She opened her mouth to speak but choked on her words. Suddenly, she began clawing at her body, thrashing in my arms as tears slipped down her cheeks. Beneath her olive skin, her muscles stood hard as stone, dark and red.
The arrow was poisoned, I realized.
I glanced back at the crowd, now scattered as everyone moved back and forth. The hunters glanced at me. Their glamours had slipped off, revealing crimson eyes. One of the hunters slowly raised her arrow, targeting me. Without warning, I lifted Davina into my arms and hurried out of there.
