The group came to a stop at the bottom of the ridge. The wind was strong down there, and the cold cut through their clothes.
Blood stained the rocks around them, mixed with the remains of broken weapons and the black marks left by the explosions inside the mountain.
Sagiri stepped down first, followed by Kiana. His cloak was torn, and dried blood covered one side of his clothes. The poison was still working through his body, but he ignored it. Kiana stood beside him, looking at her hands as if she still could not believe what had happened.
Zaira was already moving along the foot of the eastern cliff. Her enormous body blocked part of the path while her red eyes watched the surrounding rocks.
The nine Sandshades had spread out across the gorge, chasing away the last of the Soulless that had survived the destruction of the stronghold. Their weapons remained drawn, and none of them seemed willing to lower their guard just yet.
