Chapter 9: "The road to Apexor"
"Hello?" River answered her phone, smiling at the caller ID. "Ahhhhh!" she immediately pulled the phone away from her ear due to the loud scream on the other end.
"Seriously, you're going to destroy my eardrum!" River said, bringing the phone back to her ear.
Lettie shouted again, her voice full of excitement. "I... I... I!" she stuttered, unable to form a coherent sentence.
"Come down, Lettie," River said calmly over the line.
"I'm starting work next week!" Lettie exclaimed, her voice barely contained.
"OMG, Lettie, I'm so happy! When and where...?" River asked, her excitement growing.
"Wait, don't tell me..." River said, her voice trailing off.
"Yhssss, Apexor Meds!" Lettie said, barely able to contain her enthusiasm.
Ahhhhhhhh...both girls screamed in excitement, their joyful shouts filling the air not caring about their eardrums . "Oh come on, don't they think they're destroying our ears?" the imaginary phones complained.
Apexor Meds was the best hospital in the country, renowned for its cutting-edge technology and innovative treatments. It was founded by the same visionary who built Apexor Tech.
After they calmed down, Lettie explained how she got the call. "I received a call from Apexor Meds an minutes ago. The HR person said I was selected for their residency program and that I'll be starting next week. She congratulated me and said they'll be sending over the details."
"That's amazing, Lettie! I'm so proud of you," River said.
"Have you heard from Apexor Tech?" Lettie asked.
"No, not yet," River replied.
Don't worry, I believe in you, Lettie assured her friend at the other end.
The two friends chatted about their plans, River's parents, and food before saying their goodbyes.
As soon as River hung up, her phone rang again. "Hello?" she answered.
"Is this River Benard?" a voice asked.
"Yes, it is. Who's this?"
"You're qualified for the internship at Apexor Tech. Please come in next week."
River's eyes widened in shock. "Thank you..." she stammered.
She quickly dialed Lettie's number. "Ahhhhh!" she screamed.
River you won't scream unless.....
"Yes, yes the HR just called saying the same thing you said, River said excitedly.
I knew it! Lettie said boastfully.
Ahhhhh!" Both girls shouted and laughed.
"Are these two insane?" the imaginary phones complained.
"Let's go shopping tomorrow and choose a good outfit for our jobs," Lettie suggested. "We have to rock that place!"
"Okay, Lettie," River agreed instantly.
"I'll pick you up in the morning," Lettie said before hanging up.
