Chapter 2: Arkin's History
As the sun shone over the beautiful city of Elandor, Arkin was enjoying life with his family — a low-class noble family, not wealthy, but happy enough to survive among the powerful nobles around them.
This city was blessed by the goddess Syrial. Everyone in this world carried her blessing.
But unlike others, Arkin was born with a curse — no blessing, no talent.
He was his family's last hope to rise in this cursed city full of nobles. Though they lost hope, they never gave up.
Arkin's father, a noble with little privilege or status, worked to the bone to hold his family together. Even without hope, he trained his son with great care, giving him the strength he needed to survive. But despair was waiting for them.
All the nobles despised Arkin's father — a low-born man who earned the title of noble through strength and courage. He had fought and protected the city with everything he had, earning the lord's respect.
Arkin looked up to his father with great admiration. Even without talent, he trained day after day, pushing himself to achieve a feat worthy of his father's name.
But fate had other plans. The wicked nobles had plotted something terrible against their family.
Life went on happily for a while. The Arkin family found peace in their simple days.
But light never lasts forever — where there is light, darkness lurks close, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
And that darkness finally came.
In the shining city of Elandor, evil grew quietly in the hearts of hateful nobles. Yet not all were rotten — the lord of Elandor still had high hopes for Arkin's father, respecting the man for his strength and loyalty.
That respect only deepened the nobles' hatred.
One night, beneath a sky full of stars and gentle moonlight, tragedy struck.
As everyone slept peacefully, a loud knock echoed through their home. Arkin's father awoke and went to check, unaware that doom waited on the other side.
Guards stormed in and seized him without warning. Confused, he fought back until he recognized the lord's knight among them. Shocked and desperate, he surrendered.
Dragged before the lord, he faced the man's furious glare.
The nobles had framed him for treason.
Arkin's father begged for an investigation, insisting on his innocence. But the nobles had planned this for a long time — every piece of evidence pointed against him.
No one believed him.
Seeing their disgusted faces, he fell to his knees, broken. The lord spat bitter words:
"I had high hopes for you. Yet you've only disappointed me with your filth. Begone from my sight — if not for mercy, I'd have you hanged before all of Elandor."
He was exiled, along with his family.
Carrying their pain, they left the city and traveled north to a small town called Nopheria — a poor settlement of struggling commoners.
Arkin's father met the village mayor, who offered them a small home. But the humiliation and agony consumed him. The looks, the whispers, the memories — they tore him apart.
His family stayed by his side, trying to heal him, but despair had already claimed his heart.
One night, as the family slept, the suffering became too heavy to bear.
When the morning sun rose, Arkin woke — and froze. His father's body hung lifelessly from the ceiling.
His mind went blank. His throat went dry.
A scream tore from his chest before he collapsed, unconscious.
His mother rushed in, and when she saw what had happened, her cries echoed through the entire village.
Villagers gathered around, horrified by the scene. They helped take the body down.
Arkin awoke, only to see his father's lifeless face — and his world shattered once again.
Despair struck him so deeply that he could barely move or speak.
The village mayor came, urging them to stay strong, and the villagers buried Arkin's father with quiet sorrow.
Later, inside their broken home, Arkin found a letter written by his father. His hands trembled as he opened it.
Father's Letter:
"My beloved son, this world is full of darkness, but light exists too. Never give up on hope. Become stronger — stronger than me. Not for revenge, but to protect what's important.
Take care of your family with all your heart. I'm sorry I couldn't teach you everything.
You will become strong. I'm sorry I left you. Goodbye, my son. Take care of our family for me."
Tears poured down Arkin's face.
"You stupid… why did you have to do this? If you cared so much, why did you leave us? I hate you…"
Days passed. The family slowly tried to settle again. Arkin did what he could to provide for them.
The villagers shared what little they had, but it wasn't enough. Hunger grew. His mother fell ill.
Arkin couldn't bear it anymore. He took a dull blade and went into the forest to find food.
He found an animal — his first hunt. Fear and desperation tangled inside him. His family's faces flashed in his mind. He lunged.
The blade cut deep, blood staining his hands. He dropped the weapon, shaking. Then he cried — long and hard — before finally bringing the meat home.
That night, his family ate a little, surviving one more day.
Even in despair, Arkin never left their side. He never gave up.
What happens next? Will Arkin's despair deepen further… or will a light finally shine upon him and his family?
