Chapter 23 - An Appointment with Yotsuya Miko

"...Let's give it a try."

Yotsuya Miko bit her lip lightly. After finding Arthur's email, she composed a message and hit send.

Ding ding ding~~~

On his way home, Arthur heard the chime from his phone. Pulling it out, he saw it was from Yotsuya Miko.

"The fish finally took the bait."

The corners of his lips curled with a knowing smile.

Earlier, he'd deliberately played the part of a paranormal enthusiast, all to throw out a lure for her.

He opened her message.

Yotsuya Miko:Good evening, Arthur-kun. I have something I'd like to ask you—are you free?

Arthur:Go ahead.

"..."

Staring at her screen, Miko hesitated for a long moment before typing again.

Yotsuya Miko:Arthur-kun… do you know about my situation?

Arthur's smile deepened. "What situation are you talking about?"

This back-and-forth looked like some kind of riddle.

Seeing his reply, Miko clenched her teeth. She had the distinct feeling he was teasing her on purpose.

But she needed his help now.

So she swallowed her frustration and typed again:

Yotsuya Miko:You can see ghosts… can't you?

Arthur:You mean evil spirits?

Her eyes lit up. "Yes! Can you really see them?"

Expectation filled her chest.

If Arthur could see them too, then she wasn't alone anymore.

They said there was strength in numbers. Maybe together, they could find a way out of this.

She didn't want to be jolted awake by nightmares anymore. She didn't want to keep living in fear of those horrifying spirits.

Arthur:Yes, I can see them.

"He really can!"

Her eyes widened, a mix of shock and joy welling up inside her.

So, in the afternoon when they had met, Arthur had indeed noticed her ability—that was why he'd said those strange things.

Now certain he was her "companion," Miko's mind flooded with questions.

Her fingers flew across the keys:

Yotsuya Miko:

Why can you see evil spirits? Were you born like this?

Do you know of any way to stop seeing them?

Or something that keeps them from approaching?

If evil spirits exist… then does that mean exorcists are real too?

A whole barrage of questions went flying.

Reading them, Arthur could practically feel her desperation. He chuckled softly and began to reply.

Arthur:I know you're in a rush, Yotsuya-san. But don't worry, take a breath first.

"..."

Arthur:Since you've got so many questions, let's talk about them tomorrow, when we meet in person.

"???"

Miko blinked, dumbfounded.

Really? He stirred up her curiosity, only to suddenly say not today?

Before she could respond, another email arrived.

Arthur:It's settled then. Tomorrow at noon, at the student council office. Good night.

"..."

Who settled it with you?!

I didn't even agree yet!

But… she needed his help. She couldn't push back too much.

Yotsuya Miko:Alright… see you at the student council office tomorrow at noon.

Setting her phone down, Miko tightened the blanket around herself and closed her eyes.

"The student council office? …Could it be Arthur is actually a member of the student council?"

Until now, she had only known he attended the same school as her. Nothing more.

Now she'd learned a little bit more.

With those thoughts swirling, sleep overtook her before she realized it.

Outside, evil spirits still drifted along the streets.

But none stepped foot into any occupied home—

as though some invisible barrier barred their way.

The night passed in a blink.

At dawn, sunlight broke through the darkness, slowly illuminating the world.

The weather looked clear and fine.

From under his pillow, Arthur's phone alarm went off, playing a cheerful tune. He groaned faintly as he opened his eyes and turned it off.

"Mm~"

Stretching, he let out a relaxed hum before pulling open the blinds and windows.

Sunlight spilled into the room from the balcony.

Smiling faintly at the clear blue sky, he picked up a change of clothes and headed for the bathroom.

After washing up, he soaked in a warm bath for ten minutes.

The hot water eased through his body, leaving him feeling thoroughly refreshed.

Dressed in the black shirt and white double-breasted jacket of Private Unified High School Academy, with its blue tie and crest pin, he looked every bit the picture of composure.

The male uniform came with matching white trousers and brown leather shoes.

The female uniform was paired with a ribbon and a layered pleated skirt—black inside, white outside.

After putting on his shirt and pants, Arthur didn't rush with the jacket.

Instead, he rolled up his sleeves and prepared breakfast in the kitchen first.

By 7:40, he had finished eating, packed his books, and was ready to head out.

Strictly speaking, now that he was immortal and godlike, there was no real need for him to attend school.

But his reason was simple—

To see his future wives. And to unlock more entries in his compendium.

After all, most heroines in this multiverse of anime crossovers were students. Where else would he meet them?

As for dangers? While this world was filled with monsters and demons, none so far could threaten him.

There was no need to spend every day obsessed with getting stronger.

In this crossover world wrapped in the melodies of daily life, the best choice was to simply enjoy living.

Besides, by interacting with the heroines already "lit up" in his compendium, he could gather more Compendium Points.

Reaching a set threshold would grant him rewards.

Though he didn't yet know what those rewards would be.

Right now, his progress sat at ten percent.

Building relationships would steadily increase his points. And the more interactions he had with his heroines, the faster the points would accumulate.

So no matter how he looked at it—school was a must.

Yes, he wanted to spend time with them.

Yes, he also wanted their bodies.

At least he was honest about it. Points for that.

8:10 a.m.

Arthur arrived at Private Unified High School Academy, located in Bunkyō Ward.

Students in the same uniform filled the area.

Many stole glances at him, whispering.

Some of the girls had stars in their eyes, looking completely smitten.

Unbothered, Arthur kept a calm, confident smile as he passed through the gate.

Even holding back his extraordinary aura, he still stood out dazzlingly among ordinary students.

Like a crane standing tall in a flock of chickens.

Changing into indoor shoes at the first-floor lockers, he headed up to Class 1-C.

The moment he stepped inside, the chatter in the classroom fell silent.

Every gaze turned to him.

They looked at him as though he were an entirely different person—shocked, bewildered.

Arthur's expression didn't waver.

He went straight to his seat—the throne of the King.

The All-Things Compendium gave a soft chime.

Several new entries had just been recorded, waiting to be lit.
