"Hey, hey, hey—was that Arthur just now? Am I the only one who thinks he got way more handsome?"
"You're not the only one."
"Damn it! He was already ridiculously handsome before. Now he's even more so—how are the rest of us guys supposed to survive?"
"Exactly! Like this, how am I supposed to find a girlfriend?!"
"Uh… maybe, just maybe, your inability to find a girlfriend has nothing to do with Arthur being handsome?"
"Wait, why did he suddenly get better looking? Could it be… getting sick actually makes you prettier?"
"No way. Last time I was sick, I looked like death warmed over. Not glowing like him."
...
The class couldn't stop whispering as they stared at Arthur in disbelief.
Several girls who already liked him for his looks had sparkling stars in their eyes.
Today's Arthur was hitting them right in the heart.
It wasn't that his face had changed much, but somehow—no one could look away.
The boy at the center of all the chatter, however, ignored them completely.
Calmly, he pulled out his textbook—
and summoned the All-Things Compendium.
Flipping through, he checked the new entries that had just been recorded:
Sairenji Haruna
Kotegawa Yui
Yuigahama Yui
Miura Yumiko
Hayasaka Ai
Katō Megumi
Futaba Rio
…
"Huh…"
Arthur blinked in surprise.
Some of these entries had automatically lit up.
Most were expected.
But one, in particular, wasn't—
Sairenji Haruna.
Name: Sairenji Haruna
Rank: White
Note:Someone's White Moonlight
Reward: Tennis Mastery
...
Arthur frowned slightly.
As far as he remembered, he hadn't had any meaningful interaction with her.
In fact, he'd only even heard of Sairenji Haruna after transferring here.
So why did her entry auto-light?
He glanced toward her desk.
And as it happened—she was looking at him too.
Their eyes met.
Haruna's cheeks tinted pink, and she quickly looked away.
Arthur's eyes narrowed slightly. He retracted his gaze and returned to the compendium.
Other than Haruna, two more entries had lit up on their own:
Name: Yuigahama Yui
Rank: White
Note:Sweet dumpling, always outbundled
Reward: Japanese Cuisine Mastery
Name: Miura Yumiko
Rank: White
Note:Flame Queen
Reward: Singing Mastery
All of them were White rank.
And unlike White-ranked evil spirits—which only granted raw energy—
These rewards were practical daily-life skills.
Different categories clearly yielded different types of rewards.
With a thought, Arthur claimed them.
In an instant, his mind was flooded with techniques—tennis form, cooking methods, vocal training.
His throat tickled faintly.
His hand muscles flexed subtly.
And just like that—less than ten seconds later—
all three skills had seamlessly fused into his body as instinct.
No one around noticed a thing.
Closing the compendium, Arthur looked up with an easy smile, casually greeting those he knew—
including Yuigahama Yui and Miura Yumiko.
Two minutes later—
Ding, ding, ding~
The familiar sound of the school bell rang out at 8:20.
When the chime faded, the homeroom teacher of Class 1-C walked in.
Kirisu Mafuyu.
Her sakura-pink hair fell in smooth waves to her waist, neatly trimmed bangs across her forehead, with side locks braided into twin twists.
Her eyes were a clear, icy blue—
cold, crystalline, like frozen glass.
Dressed in a dark suit, paired with sheer black stockings and heels,
her tall, slender frame was accentuated by long, flawless legs.
A curvaceous figure, paired with delicate features—
without question, she was a top-tier beauty.
And with her expression blank, her demeanor cool and strict,
she radiated the unique allure of an ice queen.
When she appeared in Arthur's sight, the compendium automatically recorded her entry.
Walking to the podium, Mafuyu set her teaching materials down and swept her gaze across the class—checking for absentees.
Her eyes lingered on Arthur for a moment, a flicker of something unreadable passing through.
The weekly homeroom meeting began.
On Mondays, the ten minutes before first period were for class meetings.
On the other four weekdays, that time was used for morning self-study.
And the first period today, conveniently, was World History—
Kirisu Mafuyu's subject.
So once homeroom ended, she moved smoothly into her lecture.
Halfway through, her icy blue eyes settled on Arthur.
"Arthur-kun—answer this one."
"Yes, sensei." He stood up calmly.
"Who is known as the last poet of the old era, and the first of the new?"
"Dante Alighieri."
"Correct."
She nodded, then asked again:
"What was the first Germanic kingdom in European history?"
"The Visigothic Kingdom."
"Correct."
Still not letting him sit, she asked a third:
"Who founded the Stoic school during the Hellenistic period?"
"Zeno, the Greek mathematician and philosopher."
"Good. You may sit."
A faint look of approval crossed her otherwise cold features. She nodded lightly and continued her lecture.
Arthur, sitting back down, narrowed his eyes.
Normally, a teacher would only ask one question.
But she had deliberately asked him three.
He could guess why.
Time flowed quietly by.
When the dismissal chime rang, the class rose in unison under Haruna's lead to thank the teacher.
Mafuyu's gaze fell on Arthur.
"Arthur-kun. Come with me."
"Yes."
He rose without hesitation and followed her out.
Miura Yumiko, who had been planning to approach him, froze in frustration as she watched him leave with their teacher.
Mafuyu led him to the consultation room on the second floor.
"Sit."
They sat across from one another.
"Arthur-kun," she said, her tone softer now. "Your health is fine, I assume?"
The last time he had called in sick, his voice had sounded weak and frail.
Now he looked fine. But as his homeroom teacher, she had to confirm.
Arthur smiled gently. "Thank you for your concern, Kirisu-sensei. I'm completely fine now."
"That's good."
She nodded, and pulled out several sheets of A4 paper from her materials.
"These are key points from the classes you missed. Copy them down and make sure you don't fall behind."
"Thank you, sensei."
Arthur accepted them—and blinked slightly in surprise.
They contained notes from five subjects: Japanese, Math, English, World History, and Biology.
All handwritten.
Which meant… Mafuyu had written them herself.
