Chapter 27 - Family Dinner

The dining room glows under golden light, filled with the scent of luxury perfumes and rich food that would make anyone's mouth water. But not mine. I sit calmly, pretending nothing gets under my skin, even though every second feels like a test.

My family looks so happy. Too happy.

Especially him — Mr. Evander Lee, the flawless man everyone calls my father.

Across from him, Rion Vale sits with that effortless composure that drives me insane. I sip my wine, letting it burn down my throat as Dad says, "How's the project going, Rion?"

Rion's smile is calm, sharp, practiced. "Perfectly smooth, uncle. And I must say, Mr. Evan has impressive skills. I'm happy to work with him."

A quiet fire ignites in my chest.

He knows exactly what he's doing.

I force a polite smile, my jaw tight. "Yes, Dad. It's a pleasure to work with Mr. Vale. He's… a very capable CEO."

Dad's brows lift — surprised, maybe even proud. He doesn't notice the lie that tastes like acid on my tongue.
