Chapter 7 - Chapter Seven: It happened by Chance

Brady's eyes lowered and he looked away. For a second, he fell silent, clutching the railing.

He stayed in that position for a couple of minutes. I walked over to him,

"You mustn't say it if you don't want to--"

"Is that why.." his expression grew pale. Or rather dark and dejected.

" This whole time you've been talking to me.. faking those smiles,, just with the hope that I was some stranger.. A freelance musician who'd somehow managed to catch the heart of every girl in this city."

"..."

He gave out a soft sigh that sounded pained.

Before I could spare another word or the least talk some sense into him, the lights went off.

We could see clearly through the solid glass that served as the ceiling of the entire building and a floor to us on the terrace.

When the spotlight came on, I could see clearly his silky black hair and the keys he played. His fingers worked like magic. I was so intrigued by his performance that I didn't realise when Brady left my side.

"There. You have your answer." He managed to say, before leaving.

As he walked away, I felt a pang of guilt ball up in my chest. But it quickly simmered down.

Of course, I wasn't at fault so I didn't have to apologise.

I turned around to enjoy the rest of the music.

Heck no was I sacrificing my happiness over someone I'd just met. He was just being childish, no way I was going to chase after him like a desperate girlfriend. It would just pull all focus and attention on me.

~Rule Nō. 6 on Ari's guide to Blind Dating

•Lay it low. Don't grab too much attention.

I'm pretty much following up with the rules here:|

Downstairs, the lights were back on and everything had gone back to normal.

Since Brady was nowhere to be found, I guess he'd left a little early. The restaurant was already running short of people.

Ari would kill me if I didn't return with my own side of the deal.

I followed the blonde lady's direction from earlier.

Table Four was just a few inches from where I stood.

And to my HORROR, my blind date was still there.. arms crossed and eyes glued to his iPad,

JUST how patient WAS he??

He didn't even notice when I took out the seat and sat down. I was almost invisible to him.

"Jeez, what is taking her so looooong?!"

" It's been three. Whole. hours." Ari said, twirling her hair around her middle finger. She looked less concerned and.. maybe a bit too calm. Ari didn't seem to have lost as much patience as Sammy already had.

"It's excruciatingly painful that I have to bear this,"

"... "

[v] Sammy nearly screamed 'ghost'

"Chill. It's just that new weirdo who moved in."

Right. Trish Kanes just moved in about a week ago- the only 1st Year student amongst them. She spends most of her time in her room or IN her room. It was unlike her to show up in the sitting room or even say anything to anyone. Her mood was always cold and she acted so distant.

Trish turned her head sharply, her eyes darting towards Ari, giving off that Wednesday vibe.

"Anyone but Ari would understand me. She's been having cupcakes for the past two hours now."

Ari broke into a cold sweat, "I--can e--xplain.." She slowly paced back, squeezing her last wrap of cupcake and tossing it into the trash can right behind her.

Something about Sammy's expression told her to run.

The devil, who just stirred up the whole drama, simply flicked open her laptop and continued her daily routine of typing unnecessary documents on it.

---

Elr D'Carter walked into the restaurant, his iPad cloaked with a thick fine fabric pad in one hand. The last thing he wanted was to grab attention but it seemed some things were just quite inevitable.

This damn wig wasn't even helping!!

*Mummur ~"Isn't that Tensixx's CEO?"

~"Mr D'Carter? I could barely recognise him.."

~"This is his brother's Restaurant, of course he's come to take a look.."

~"With him around, no girl will ever be interested in us!"

~"Everyone, quickly! Cover your dates' eyes!!"

''They're being so overdramatic ''

" Ms Hempton here," the head manager rushed up to him

"How many I help you--"

Elr raised up his hand, straight and calm. The hint was enough to make her understand... Elr was in no mood for any special treatment or attention.

Just a little peace for this old gentleman, that's not too much to ask for.

He plopped into his seat, giving out that nonchalant sigh.

"And where is she supposed to be?" He asked, almost sternly. The blonde lady knew that by 'she', he meant Kurv. But the pretty butterfly had already gone away to the rooftop with some nobody of a millionaire. A word of it would wound Elr's pride completely.

But she also couldn't say that Kurv hadn't shown up yet because she knew [like everyone else] that Elr D'Carter has sharp eyes and wouldn't be dumb enough not to notice her code name on the checklist.

"The bath--room.." the manager stuttered.

Elr really didn't care about what she was saying, his mind was already parted from this reality. The Fest was to come up in two weeks or less and he hadn't even come up with the perfect product to advertise.

'Just two weeks..

That sounded like a lot, but in reality, it really wasn't much; there was still a lot that had to be done.

A lot!

At moments like this, only one thing could actually help ease his mind. He stood up and left.

"Mr. Carter,"

"He'll be back in a few minutes. Hempton. I suppose you have other things to do." Girrt said in a cold tone.

" I hope it's not a bad review.. I'd lose my job if any of that happens." She mumbled as she walked away.

Girrt rolled his eyes, a review had to be the last thing on Elr's mind. And besides, who would even make a bad comment on their own brother's Restaurant?

The thing is, Elr D'Carter had something more interesting up his sleeve.. it was more like his hidden habit, something that no one would see coming but pray to see again
