"You little rascal!"
Whis sighed helplessly, then smiled faintly. "Since you're all so curious… fine, I'll tell you."
"A few thousand years ago, my sister and I once sparred. In the end, I lost."
When Whis said that, there wasn't a hint of resentment in his voice for having been defeated by Vados.
"You lost?"
The trio of Supreme Kais widened their eyes in disbelief.
In their minds, the Angel of Universe Seven was a refined, elegant, and incomprehensibly powerful being. How could their Whis possibly lose to the Angel of Universe Six?
"So the manga was right after all!"
Gran wasn't nearly as shocked as the others. He muttered under his breath, "Just like in the comic…"
But still… was Whis really weaker than Vados?
"What's wrong? You all look disappointed after hearing I lost," Whis chuckled softly.
"How could we not be disappointed?"
The Old Supreme Kai huffed. "You're the strongest in our universe! If even you lost, doesn't that mean Universe Six is stronger than us?"
Shin and Kibito nodded vigorously, their faces heavy with gloom.
"There's no need to take it that way," Whis said with a sigh. "My sister being stronger than me is perfectly natural."
He said it lightly, but everyone knew—no one liked the idea of their own universe coming second.
"Whis!"
Gran suddenly spoke up. "Among all the Angels… are you the youngest?"
The three Supreme Kais' eyes immediately lit up.
Of course! If the age gap was that large, then Whis losing made perfect sense. Experience and time mattered, after all.
"..."
Whis covered his face. Do these guys really have to prove something that badly?
"Whis, please tell us!" the Supreme Kais urged.
Gran didn't say anything more, but his gaze held a knowing glint.
Because he already knew—in all the multiverse, aside from the trainee Angel Merus, Whis was indeed the youngest among the full-fledged Angels… and also the most gifted.
After all, even after loafing around with Beerus for ages, he was still only slightly weaker than his sister Vados.
"In terms of officially ranked Angels," Whis admitted with a wry smile, "yes—I am the youngest."
"Ha! Then that means our Angel isn't any worse than the others!"
The three Supreme Kais cheered and hugged each other, jumping up and down like children.
"You three really are something else," Whis chuckled softly.
But when his eyes shifted toward Gran, he froze for a moment.
That sharp gaze… it was as if the little one could see through him entirely.
Could this kid… actually know the truth about my potential?
The thought startled Whis so much that he quickly shook his head. Impossible. Only his father and siblings could know something like that.
At that moment
From the distance came a cold, commanding female voice:
"Champa, I'll let you off this time. But if there's a next time, you know the consequences."
"Y-yes, I know! I won't dare again!"
Two voices echoed closer, and Gran turned his head just as Beerus and the others flew back—Champa's face swollen into something between a pig's head and a pancake.
Gran blinked. Did Vados… beat him that badly?
Actually, that sounded about right.
In the anime, Vados was portrayed as a cool-headed, teasing, but slightly sadistic older-sister type of Angel.
If Whis and Beerus had a master-disciple relationship with a touch of camaraderie, then Vados was undeniably Champa's master—literally and figuratively.
With how he'd just teased her earlier, getting beaten was only natural.
After all…
Angels "disciplining" their Gods of Destruction wasn't against the rules.
Gran's gaze shifted again—this time toward Beerus.
Weird. Why was Beerus smirking like that?
Unless… he was the one who beat Champa up?
"Tap tap tap."
The three of them landed before the group.
"Damn you, Beerus! I'll remember this! Just you wait until I get the chance!"
Champa roared, his round face trembling with rage.
"Oh, shut up. You should be thanking me," Beerus crossed his arms, grinning coldly. "If I hadn't stepped in, you'd be a smear on the floor right now. Do you really think you'd still be standing if Vados had been the one to hit you?"
"You…"
Champa opened his mouth, then closed it again, speechless.
Hearing the brothers argue, Gran finally understood—it was Beerus who'd done the punching.
Made sense. Those two had always been a pair of bickering idiots since forever—fighting one minute, eating together the next.
No wonder Beerus looked so smug. He must've enjoyed it.
"Greetings, Lord Champa. Miss Vados."
Gran quickly stepped forward and bowed politely.
Champa ignored the gesture, his gaze settling on the boy instead. "Such incredible talent… what a pity."
"?"
Gran tilted his head. What's with the "pity"?
"Much as I hate to say it," Champa grumbled, "with Beerus' stubborn old power level, you could outlive every God of Destruction and he'd still be alive. You'll never get to take his place in your lifetime!"
"..."
Gran's face went dark. Did this pig-headed god ever stop talking nonsense?
He sneaked a glance at Beerus—yep, the cat's face was as black as the bottom of a burnt pot.
Then
"Indeed, what a waste," Vados added, smiling faintly. "A genius like you, wasted under my foolish brother. If you were my disciple, I'd have trained you to surpass even Lord Champa himself."
Train?
Gran's mind flashed with a sudden image
A small version of himself, tied to a chair with rope, while a mature, high-ponytailed woman stood before him, holding… a leather whip.
He immediately shook his head violently, trying to erase the thought.
"Hey, hey, sister," Whis sighed, "don't you think that's going a bit too far? Are you saying I'm that bad of a teacher?"
"Oh? Do you really need me to answer that?" Vados smirked. "You remember our little spar, don't you?"
She said it confidently—but truthfully, a hint of unease flickered across her eyes.
That was millennia ago. With Whis' absurd talent, she wasn't so sure she'd still win today.
"..."
Whis only smiled, offering no rebuttal—as if tacitly acknowledging her words.
Silence fell over the group.
Even so, both Champa and Vados kept glancing at Gran, their eyes carrying the same unspoken sigh—
Such a disciple… and yet, he's not ours.
"Gran," Whis suddenly asked, breaking the quiet, "now that you're awake—how do you feel?"
