Chapter 3 - a new hero is born part 3

The genius scientist is named Dr. Nirvan. He is an old, bald man who wears red glasses and also has some combat skills.

The ninja is named Hanzo — an elf who wields two katana swords that glow and are extremely sharp.

And the ogre is… an ogre. He carries a gigantic axe.

These three hold a personal grudge against Glacior and were sent by the Dragon King to kill him.

Hanzo: "Alright, just to make things clear — we are not a team. Yes, we are all assigned to kill Glacior, but that doesn't mean I'll work with you. So you'd better stay out of my way. The honor of killing Glacior will be mine alone."

Ogre: "That's exactly what I was going to say to you."

Dr. Nirvan: "In fact, the three of us make the components of a good team. Hanzo is speed, the ogre is strength, and I am the mind. If we cooperate, our chances of catching and killing Glacior increase."

Both Hanzo and the ogre ignore the doctor's words and set off separately to search for Glacior.

Dr. Nirvan slaps his own face and says to himself: Sometimes the person who uses reason is the first one no one listens to.

Hanzo then releases his mechanical spheres and spreads them across Iraq to search for Glacior.

Back to Karrar: he wakes up and boards the coaster (a type of bus) that will take him to Diyala. He sits on the coaster and, during the trip, overhears two men talking about a huge ogre causing chaos in the streets of Iraq. One of them shouts, "Glacior!!! Show yourself and face me!"

Glacior hears the men and says, "Oh no."

Karrar (thinking): What? Who is that ogre and why does he want to kill you?

Glacior: "Long story. In short: there are people from my world who hate me and want me dead — and apparently they found a way into your world."

Karrar: "And because you're bound to me, that means they're targeting me too…"

Glacior: "We must reach Jabbar quickly. Can't this vehicle go any faster?"

Karrar (thinking): We're stuck in traffic right now.

Glacior: "We don't have time for that. We must get to Jabbar so I can stop the ogre."

Glacior sprouts dragon wings from Karrar and makes him break through the coaster's roof and fly upward.

Glacior makes Karrar rise into the sky, but Karrar sees the distance to the ground and panics, screaming, "Put me down!!!"

Glacior: "Hold yourself together."

Glacior wants to fly; Karrar is terrified and refuses. Because their desires clash, the flight is unstable and erratic.

Karrar collides with buildings and accidentally crashes into people's homes. The situation spirals out of control.

Eventually they crash into a large garbage dump and fall hard to the ground, shattering most of Karrar's bones.

Karrar lies on the ground surrounded by trash. Nobody knows he's there.

He tries to get up but his bones are broken. He screams from unbearable pain and sobs a little.

Glacior: "See what happens when you don't listen to me. This is all your fault."

Karrar struggles to catch his breath and answers Glacior:

You don't understand. My life was good and stable until you merged with me. From day one you caused chaos. You embarrassed me in front of my siblings. You made me miss classes. You brought a giant evil ogre into my world. Now you've broken my bones. You always force me to do things I don't want to do like it's your body only. You're incredibly selfish — literally no one in this world has your level of selfishness. I'm in so much pain and I'll probably die here, but do you know what hurts me more? Thinking about my siblings' reaction. Especially my little sister. You didn't only ruin my life — you ruined Mustafa's and Fatima's lives too. Your selfish actions hurt others that badly.

Glacior: "I… "

Glacior is affected by Karrar's words. He takes a deep breath and replies:

"When I suffered those severe wounds, I was about to die. I was so afraid and I didn't want to end that way, so I tried to find anyone—anyone at all—to merge with and save myself. I didn't think about whether the person would agree to my merging, or whether they would want to help. You're right — I was extremely selfish. I know the word 'sorry' probably won't help or satisfy you, but… I'm sorry."

. . .

Karrar (thinking): Why were you injured? What happened to you?

Glacior: "It's a long and sad story."

Karrar: "If it's sad, then I'm sure you want someone to share it with — to comfort you. You don't have to keep that pain inside."

Glacior: "You're right. Alright, listen. In my world there are entire clans of various dragons: fire, ice, lightning. We possess many great abilities: healing, regeneration, size shifting, and more. But most dragons used these powers for evil — things like invasion, stealing gold, imposing force on others. For generations dragons did those things and it became tradition: dragon = evil. Any dragon who disobeyed died. Right now the Dragon King Drakth rules us and orders invasions and control. That dragon has no mercy. He's very conservative about traditions. I refused. I didn't want to control or conquer, so I left my kind and flew far away to a kingdom called Redhar. That kingdom was rotten — ninja gangs, ghouls, evil scientists. I used my powers to fight those corrupt people and foil their plans. I made Redhar safe and stable. Its people loved me and considered me their hero. Everything was fine until Drakth learned I disobeyed and found my location. He and the rest of the dragons attacked Redhar. They slaughtered and burned its people. I tried to fight Drakth, but he defeated me and forced me to watch Redhar's people die. I still remember his words…"

Back to the moment Glacior spoke, Drakth had said:

Drakth: "Did you think you were the first dragon to feel our traditions are wrong and to deviate? Many made the same choice and rebelled, and all suffered harsh punishments. I want you now to see the people you betrayed your kind for — see them die. Look at them: weak and unable to defend themselves. Do you really want to lower yourself to their level?"

Back in the present, Glacior continued:

"My battle with Drakth left deep wounds. I escaped and went to a laboratory where I found a device that opens portals to other worlds. I chose your world…and you know what happened next. I was upset and full of sorrow, so I vented all my negative energy. You're a good young man, Karrar, and you don't deserve what happened to you."

Karrar (thinking): …I wanted to comfort you and ease your pain, but the story you told me was so tragic I don't know what to say. I'm… sorry. I can't say anything that will make you feel better.

Glacior: "It's okay. Not everyone can understand what I went through. But I'm somewhat happy you tried to comfort me and listened to my whole story."

Karrar (thinking): What will you do when you merge with Jabbar?

Glacior: "First I'll deal with the ogre who came to your world, and then… I'll try to find a new purpose for my life."

Karrar (thinking): What if Jabbar refuses to help you? Fusion requires cooperation — what if Jabbar refuses?

Glacior: "I… don't know what I'll do if that happens. But I promise that once we reach Jabbar I will leave you and you'll never see me again. You can then continue your life normally. For now we must wait until your body heals."

. . .

Glacior: "So… what about you? What's your story?"

Karrar (thinking): Me? I don't have an interesting story. Compared to you I'm nothing.

Glacior: "Really? Nothing interesting in your life? When I was in your house I noticed something strange: you live only with your siblings. Where are your parents?"

Karrar (thinking): They disappeared suddenly several years ago.

Glacior: "They disappeared suddenly? You don't know what happened to them?"

Karrar (thinking): Yes. Police and investigators searched for them for a long time and found nothing. There is literally no trace. Since then, Mustafa has been supporting Fatima and me.

Glacior: "Do you miss them?"

Karrar: "Yes. But I… moved on."

After two hours, Karrar's body recovers and he is able to stand.

Glacior: "I still think flying will get us to Jabbar's house faster, but if you don't want to and prefer the coaster, I'll respect your decision."

Karrar (thinking): No — you're right. Flying is the better option. I just need to get used to it.

Glacior: "Alright."

Wings sprout from Karrar, and he begins to rise slowly. At first it feels okay, but when he reaches higher into the sky he grows anxious and keeps thinking he'll fall and be hurt again.

Glacior: "You're scared and unsure. Like I said, I don't want to force you. If you want to continue on the ground, I will."

Karrar (thinking): No… there's an ogre causing chaos in my country. We must reach Jabbar quickly so you can handle him.

Karrar pushes forward and begins to fly. When he looks down and focuses on the clouds and sky, he starts to feel calm. The view is beautiful, the air pleasant. He looks down and the distance no longer scares him. He continues flying and begins to enjoy it.

But… while flying, a mechanical orb suddenly appears and films him.

In Baghdad, Dr. Nirvan sits at his computer with many screens and watches the body that merged with Glacior. He laughs an evil laugh and says, "There you are."

The orb fires lasers at Karrar, but Karrar dodges.

Karrar (thinking): Where is that coming from?

Glacior: "That orb… it was made by one of my enemies in my world: Dr. Nirvan. Go and smash it."

The orb fires more lasers, but Karrar deflects them with his wings and then claws the orb to pieces.

Glacior: "That orb has a camera. Nirvan now knows we're flying. We must land. Besides, we're getting close to Jabbar's house."

Karrar lands and transforms back into his human form, then continues on foot.

Karrar (thinking): How many enemies do you have in your world? Surely they all made their way here.

Glacior: "Don't worry. Once I merge with Jabbar I'll handle them all."

Then something terrible happens…

The ogre appears and shouts, "Glacior!!! When will you be brave enough to face me?! I know you merged with some human in this world."

The ogre then grabs a young man from his family and holds him. The father tries to save his son, but the ogre pushes him away.

The ogre lifts the young man high and shouts loudly, "I know you love rescuing people, Glacior — even people you know. That's your weakness. If you don't show yourself, I will kill this young man."

Glacior: "Karrar, we have to run. I know you probably want to save that man, but you can't fight the ogre. He's too strong."

Karrar (thinking): Glacior… the person the ogre is holding is not just any young man. It's Murtadha… my friend…
