Cobb slammed his final words down like a gavel and snatched the wine bottle from the table, storming out of the room with heavy footsteps that echoed through the silence he left behind.
That insufferable man couldn't even make an exit without dropping a bomb in my lap. The audacity was almost impressive.
Madge didn't flinch at Cobb's dramatic departure. Her smile remained perfectly intact, radiating that same practiced charm that could fool anyone who wasn't paying close attention. She looked like those pristine mannequins in high-end boutique windows, beautiful but unnaturally still.
"What would you like to eat or drink this evening? My treat," she said, her tone as smooth as silk.
If I hadn't caught that fleeting glimpse of pure venom in her eyes, I might have actually believed she was genuinely unbothered by Soren's presence in my life.
