The whispering voice sent shivers down my spine. I tried to speak, but my voice caught in my throat. The words seemed to echo in my mind, "You'll never leave." I knew I had to get out of there, but my feet felt heavy, as if rooted to the spot.
I forced myself to move, my heart racing with every step. I grabbed the diary and the note, shoving them into my pocket. As I turned to leave, I heard the whispering again, this time louder, more urgent. "Don't go. You don't understand."
I spun around, but there was no one there. The room was empty, the shadows cast by the flickering candles dancing on the walls. I took a deep breath and made a dash for the door, my hand reaching out to grab the handle.
As I touched the door, it swung open by itself. I stumbled out into the hallway, gasping for air. The door creaked shut behind me, and I heard a faint whisper, "You shouldn't have come here."
I didn't wait to find out what it meant. I ran down the hallway, my footsteps echoing off the walls. I didn't stop until I reached the front door, flinging it open and stumbling out into the night air.
The storm had passed, leaving behind a eerie calm. The moon was full, casting an silver glow over the overgrown lawn. I took a deep breath, feeling the cool night air fill my lungs.
As I looked back at the house, I saw a figure standing in the window. It was a young girl, her eyes black as coal, her face twisted in a malevolent grin. I froze, my heart pounding in my chest.
And then, she vanished.
I didn't wait to see if she would reappear. I ran to my car, starting the engine and speeding away from the house. As I looked in the rearview mirror, I saw the house receding into the distance, its windows seeming to stare back at me like empty eyes.
I didn't stop driving until I was miles away from the house. I pulled over, my hands shaking as I pulled out the diary and the note. I read the note again, the words jumping off the page. "They're coming for you. Don't trust anyone."
Who was writing these notes? And what did they want from me?
As I sat there, trying to make sense of it all, I heard a faint whisper in my ear. "You can't escape."
