Chapter 16: Buddhist Medicine
"Half… isn't that too much?" Just as he was about to make the cut, Mo Fei hesitated again. What if he threw out half a carrot and the person still died? Then he would suffer a huge loss.
"Then a quarter… no more than that."
"Or an eighth? Forget it, a quarter it is. No less than that."
When Mo Fei fed a quarter of a carrot to Punisher, Daisy was completely bewildered.
What was going on?
Feeding a carrot to a dying man?
Mo Fei said, without batting an eye: "He lost too much blood. Carrots replenish blood, so giving him some blood will increase his chances of survival."
"Oh, I see! I learned something new!" Daisy nodded in sudden realization.
Daisy, who had dropped out of public high school, now understood that the best treatment for a patient who had lost a lot of blood was to feed him a carrot.
Mindy also didn't understand why they had to feed the injured person a carrot, but she wouldn't undermine her older brother.
But she knew her older brother was practicing Buddhist Medicine again.
So-called Buddhist Medicine meant whether a patient recovered or not depended entirely on the Buddha's will.
It was strange, though; after Mo Fei fed the injured man the carrot, his condition showed a clear improvement.
A hint of color appeared on his pale face, his heart beat stronger, and his pulse was more vigorous.
Daisy realized that carrots were indeed a miracle drug!
After observing for over an hour at Daisy's house, Mo Fei finally heard the system notification.
"Notification: You have completed the quest 'Hero's Tears'!"
"Notification: You have received the item – Punisher Character Card."
Damn it, he almost despaired, thinking the carrot he had taken out with such great resolve had been fed to a dog!
Now it was great, a huge harvest!
He traded a quarter of a sturdy shield for an extremely sharp spear.
"For treating Punisher's gunshot wound, you gain 3 experience points."
"Medical Skill Lv3: You have finally advanced from a clueless idiot to a good-for-nothing. You can barely go out and practice medicine. But you trash, you can only treat minor issues like colds and fevers. If you overestimate yourself and treat serious illnesses, you will still have to apologize to the entire nation! (Experience 12/500)"
"Alright, my sister and I still have to go home for lunch and a nap, so we won't stay here any longer." Mo Fei smiled and made a universally understood gesture to Daisy, rubbing his thumb back and forth between his middle and index fingers—time to settle the bill.
Daisy reluctantly took out her private savings.
This was her hard-earned money from coding day and night!
"Quack! Fat otaku! Vampire! If I, Daisy, ever get shot and bleed to death, I will never come to you for treatment!"
...Natalie was very happy today because she and her sisters had once again successfully completed a mission, not only receiving Charlie's commendation but also a large bounty.
So, her sisters and she planned to go out and have some fun.
If they had money and didn't spend it, what were they waiting for, to lay eggs?
But perhaps because she got carried away, she made a phone call while driving, and at a street corner, an elderly Old Beggar suddenly appeared, and so—
"Ouch! My leg is broken, it hurts so much! Help me, someone! How will I, a lonely old man, live now!"
The Old Beggar's cries of anguish quickly attracted a crowd of onlookers.
They pointed and discussed animatedly.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I didn't do it on purpose!"
Natalie had never encountered such a situation and was instantly stunned, apologizing profusely with a flustered expression.
Fortunately, her good sisters, Dylan and Alex, still had their wits about them and pulled Natalie aside: "What are you standing around for? Hurry and take him to the hospital!"
But the three of them were astonished to find that even with their combined strength as skilled young women, they couldn't even drag the elderly Old Beggar.
They instantly questioned their lives.
Who am I?
Where am I?
What am I doing?
Leaving Daisy's house, Mo Fei and Mindy were halfway when they suddenly noticed a large crowd blocking the road ahead.
Mo Fei was a little curious about what was happening inside. He stood on his tiptoes and saw what appeared to be three beautiful women. Without a word, he led Mindy to squeeze into the crowd.
"What the… are you squeezing for?!" A Chinese uncle, annoyed by being pushed, turned his head and shouted.
"Just one. Could it be, Uncle, that you… hmm?" Mo Fei asked tentatively.
The uncle choked, his angry expression instantly turning very strange, like he was constipated.
"Then that's a sickness, and it needs to be treated!" Mo Fei, with a serious expression, pulled out a business card and slipped it into the uncle's hand: "Uncle, actually, I am a Doctor, and I am a professional in this area! Come to my clinic and get it cut off, I'll give you a 20% discount! Guaranteed easy, painless, fast, and safe! I'm telling you, it's not good to avoid medical treatment!"
"And the second one is half price, absolutely a great deal!"
The uncle's face gradually twisted.
Holding the business card, the uncle was about to erupt when he suddenly heard a furious roar from Mo Fei: "That's my cousin, who hit him? Who hit my cousin? I'll make him pay with blood!"
Mo Fei had already seen the Old Beggar lying on the ground through the uncle. Although he didn't know the whole story, it was clear the Old Beggar was faking an accident again.
Hearing Mo Fei's roar, the onlookers immediately and consciously made way for Mo Fei.
The uncle, holding the business card, watched Mo Fei stride in with righteous indignation and sullenly pursed his lips.
Natalie, Dylan, and Alex were in a dilemma. They wanted to take the old man to the hospital but couldn't move him. But leaving him there was even worse. What should they do?
Just then, Mo Fei walked in, his face contorted in a ferocious grimace: "Who exactly hit my cousin?! This matter isn't over today! If you don't give me an explanation, I'll kill her today!"
The Old Beggar saw Mo Fei step forward, and not knowing what Mo Fei was up to, instinctively felt something was wrong. His cries gradually subsided.
Natalie stepped forward and apologized: "I'm sorry, sir, I accidentally hit your cousin. I am willing to take your cousin to the hospital for treatment…"
"Don't say such useless things!" Mo Fei impatiently interrupted Natalie: "My cousin has had a miserable life, no children, no daughters. His leg is broken, who will take care of him? He might die in bed one day, and then all of you will be murderers! If you don't give my cousin tens of thousands of U.S. dollars today for medical expenses, lost wages, and emotional distress… this matter isn't over today!"
Alex looked at the eloquent Mo Fei, her eyes a little strange. This person looked familiar!
"You are… Mo Fei, right?" A flash of insight struck Alex's mind.
