Chapter 11 - 11

The bell rang, signaling the end of another busy school day. Aiko stuffed her books into her bag, glancing nervously at the clock. She wasn't usually late, but today felt different.

Ren was waiting by the school gate, leaning casually against the railing. His dark hair was slightly mussed from the breeze, and when he spotted her, he gave that soft smile that always made her heart flutter.

"Hey," he said. "Want to walk home together?"

Aiko's cheeks flushed pink. "S-Sure!" she replied quickly, trying to sound casual, though her hands were slightly trembling.

As they walked through the quiet streets near Hanamori High, the air filled with the soft scent of spring flowers and the distant chatter of other students.

"You know," Ren began, glancing at her, "it's kind of nice… walking home like this. No rush, no noise, just… us."

Aiko smiled shyly, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. "Yeah… I like it too."

They passed by a small park, where cherry blossoms fluttered gently in the wind. Aiko stopped for a moment, mesmerized by the falling petals.

Ren noticed and reached out instinctively, brushing a petal off her shoulder. "You always notice the little things," he said softly.

Aiko's heart skipped. "I… guess I do," she whispered.

For a few quiet moments, they walked side by side, shoulders occasionally brushing. Aiko felt the warmth of his presence, steady and comforting, and she realized just how much she enjoyed these small, simple moments with him.

"Hey," Ren said suddenly, stopping in the middle of the path. "Do you… want to grab a snack before heading home? There's a little shop near the corner that has the best taiyaki."

Aiko's eyes lit up. "Yes! I've been craving taiyaki all week!"

They walked together to the small shop, laughing over which flavor to choose—Aiko insisted on custard, while Ren picked red bean. Sharing their treats, they sat on a bench outside, quietly enjoying the late afternoon sun.

"You know," Aiko said between bites, "I think I like walking home with you even more than the snacks."

Ren looked at her, a soft, genuine smile spreading across his face. "I think I like it too. More than I expected."

And as the sun began to dip behind the buildings, casting long shadows across the street, Aiko realized that these small walks, filled with laughter, shared snacks, and quiet companionship, were slowly becoming her favorite part of every day.
