Chapter 236: The Origin of the Cyber Style
"Number 39: Utopia's effect activates!"
"When any monster declares an attack, I can detach one Xyz Material from this card to negate that attack."
Chimeratech Overdragon's final attack was blocked by Utopia's Moon Shield. Ryo Marufuji's confident attempt to clutch out a victory was perfectly dismantled by Yūga Hōzumi.
Ryo Marufuji gritted his teeth and set the rest of his hand.
"I set two cards and end my turn."
"My turn!" Yūga Hōzumi roared, his Life Points at 400 versus 4000. His skill lit up. "For the strongest duelist, everything is inevitable! Even the very card I draw is my own creation!"
Yūga Hōzumi's gleaming golden right hand touched the top card of his deck. "Shining Draw!"
"The effect of Rank-Up-Magic Zexal Force in my Graveyard activates! Since my Life Points are 2000 or more lower than my opponent's, I can banish this card from my Graveyard to draw one card!"
Then, Yūga Hōzumi slapped the card he drew—or rather, printed—with his Shining Draw onto his Duel Disk.
"I activate Rank-Up-Magic Numeron Force! I target one Xyz Monster I control to Special Summon one "CNo." monster from my Extra Deck that is the same Type and one Rank higher, using the targeted monster as Xyz Material!"
"I perform a Chaos Xyz Evolution on Number 39: Utopia!"
"Appear, CNo. 39! Oh, shining soul of hope, encompass all creation and become the power that guides the future! Chaos Xyz Evolution! CNo. 39: Utopia Ray Victory!"
Golden holy light enveloped Utopia's original form on the field. The golden number 39 flashed, and the light transformed into a dazzling suit of golden-red armor that covered Utopia's body. The wings on Utopia's back detached and became two more longswords as two new arms grew from its shoulders to wield them. In place of its original wings, golden wings of light appeared, giving it the magnificent appearance of a holy warrior god.
CNo. 39: Utopia Ray Victory ATK: 2800
"Next, I activate the Spell Card, Zexal Trust! I target one "Utopia," "Zexal Weapon," or "Zexal Servant" monster in my Graveyard and either add it to my hand or Special Summon it."
"I Special Summon Zexal Weapon - Wild Eagle Divine Claw from the Graveyard!"
"The effect of Zexal Weapon - Wild Eagle Divine Claw activates!"
"I target one "Utopia" monster I control; this card equips to it from my hand or field, increasing its ATK by 2000."
CNo. 39: Utopia Ray Victory ATK: 2800 → 4800
"Battle! CNo. 39: Utopia Ray Victory, attack Chimeratech Overdragon!"
Utopia Ray Victory's light wings flashed, its four arms brandishing longswords as it charged toward the Chimeratech Overdragon.
"At this moment, the effect of CNo. 39: Utopia Ray Victory activates! When this card declares an attack on an opponent's face-up monster, I can detach one Xyz Material from it! Until the end of the turn, that opponent's monster has its effects negated, and this card gains ATK equal to that monster's ATK!"
The longswords in Utopia Ray Victory's hands flashed. Chimeratech Overdragon, which had prepared for battle, let out a cry of anguish as its aura instantly weakened.
Chimeratech Overdragon ATK: 4800 → 0
"At this moment, the effect of Shield-Bearing Chariot - Cyber Blade Dragon in my Graveyard activates! When an opponent's monster attacks, during damage calculation, I can pay 1000 Life Points to Special Summon this card from the Graveyard, and the battle damage I take from that battle becomes 0."
Ryo Marufuji LP: 4150 → 3150
"Blocked again?" Yūga Hōzumi sighed wearily. After "printing" two cards in a row, the Emperor's Key was almost completely drained of energy. If he were Ultraman, the light on his chest would have started flashing by now.
"The effect of Cybernetic Lighthouse activates in my Graveyard! When my Fusion Monster is destroyed by battle, I can banish this card from my Graveyard to add one "Power Bond" from my Deck to my hand," Ryo Marufuji said through gritted teeth after his hard-won monster was defeated.
"I activate the Spell Card, Pot of Avarice! I return five monsters—Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion, Number 39: Utopia Double, Number 39: Utopia Rising, CNo. 39: Utopia Ray V, and Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring—from my Graveyard to the Deck, then draw two cards!"
"I set three cards and end my turn," Yūga Hōzumi finished, panting heavily.
"My turn! I draw!" Ryo Marufuji roared as he drew his card.
At this moment, Ryo Marufuji wasn't having an easy time either. The Cyber Style is a deck that puts a heavy strain on its user. Coupled with the powerful monsters he had been continuously unleashing, he had also reached his limit.
Moreover, both had a premonition that this duel would be decided this turn.
"You've blocked every result of my training," Ryo Marufuji said. "In that case, I'll settle this with the very origin of my dueling!"
Hearing this, Yūga Hōzumi's expression hardened. Considering the card Ryo Marufuji had just searched with Cybernetic Lighthouse, it was painfully obvious what he planned to do this turn.
"I activate the effect of the Spell Card, Takeover 5, in my Graveyard! I banish this card from my Graveyard and another copy of it from my Deck to draw one card!"
"I Summon Cyber Dragon Core in Attack Position! Its effect activates! I add one "Cyber" or "Cybernetic" Spell or Trap Card from my Deck to my hand!"
"I add Cyber Emergency to my hand! And now I activate it!"
"I add one "Cyber Dragon" monster or one LIGHT Machine monster that cannot be Normal Summoned from my Deck to my hand."
"I add Cyber Dragon Nachster to my hand!"
"Cyber Dragon Nachster's effect activates! By discarding one other monster from my hand, I can Special Summon this card from my hand."
"I discard Cyber Dragon from my hand! Appear, Cyber Dragon Nachster!"
"When Cyber Dragon Nachster is successfully Summoned, its effect activates! I target one Machine monster in my Graveyard with 2100 ATK or DEF and Special Summon that monster!"
"Appear, Cyber Dragon!"
"I activate the Spell Card, Power Bond!"
"I send Fusion Material Monsters listed on a Machine Fusion Monster from my hand or field to the Graveyard to Fusion Summon that monster from my Extra Deck! The monster Special Summoned this way gains ATK equal to its original ATK. However, during the End Phase of the turn this card is activated, I take damage equal to the ATK it gained!"
Violent lightning coursed around Ryo Marufuji's body, forming a crackling magnetic field before him that enveloped the three monsters on the field.
"Appear, my old friend! The origin of the Cyber Style! I Fusion Summon! Level 10! Cyber End Dragon!"
