Faye's POV

Time blurred as Hardy hauled me across his shoulder like a sack of grain. Each jarring step sent waves of nausea through my skull. The world spun in sickening circles, my stomach churning with every bounce of his relentless stride. Just as bile rose in my throat, threatening to spill over, he came to an abrupt halt.

Without ceremony, he shifted his hold and dropped me into the frozen ground.

The impact drove all air from my lungs. Ice-cold snow bit through my heavy cloak, seeping against my skin like tiny daggers. Crystals scattered down my neck as I struggled upright, gasping for breath while shooting him a venomous look.

Where was the promised feast for wild animals? My gaze swept the area frantically until I spotted our destination. A cave mouth yawned before us, its opening barely visible beneath accumulated snowdrifts.
