The vampires realized it was not as easy as they thought. Some applied too much pressure and damaged the dummy. Others couldn't get their nails to extend. One even squirted himself with the fake blood due to improper cutting. The humans all failed to harden their nails and therefore were bad at the task.
Silver reminded everyone the task is complex and they must do it with care. Fred demonstrated first hardening the nail then the small cut. Timmy was nervous and didn't harden his nail enough and just scratched the dummy. The class laughed at the ineptness of the tenth. Silver whispered in the ears of those laughing and they immediately returned to their task. At the end of the day, most of the students were able to complete the task.
Logan decided to ask Fred. "Can you explain the deal with the tenth? My parents didn't tell me anything about why we are treated this way. We were never taught the goings on outside our home. They said I wasn't old enough to know yet."
Fred looked sad and replied after a few moments. "The truth is, none of us kids know the truth of what happened. All we know is it's because the tenth is currently without a leader. Therefore, it is considered a weak family and everyone wants to leave the family to be stronger elsewhere. There are a few nobles that know the truth and they run the castle area. With no leader, they can't have knights either. Being in the pool but under their banner is why we have to work hard in school. It will get us recognized and moved to a stronger family."
Vorden tried to cheer up Timmy who started crying. "The only person in charge of you is you. If you don't like something, change it." Coming from someone else in the tenth, it meant something to Timmy.
Fred added in "there are rumors that the leader is alive somewhere and just hasn't returned; the nobles refuse to allow the ritual to get a new leader. The last is that a leader has been selected but not announced yet or they are waiting until a new king is selected."
Silver looked around, happy the first day was going so well. She was also keeping an eye on those from the tenth and the thirteenth families because she knew bullying was going to be a problem. She noticed the time and announced it was lunch time. They were to go to the canteen and return in an hour to homeroom.
Fred offered to take them since the tenth seemed lost. However, the humans were more concerned about what vampires ate. The form of bullying most common in vampire society was shunning or treating people as extra weight. Fred was really with them to help in that regard.
In the canteen there were many long tables that fit 26 each. The group could see various meats on the plates of those already eating. The meat looked quite rare. There were no veggies or anything else. Each student also had a blood packet. Fred explained the packets were great because they keep in the smell so if someone is extra hungry they won't go on a rampage.
Fred was eating and sipping through the meal. The group ate the meat and stared at the packet. Vorden asked Raten to consume the packet who refused in pure Raten fashion. "I like spilling it, not drinking it. You got us in this situation; you deal with it! Now, if that blood came from that girl from earlier, you might be able to convince me."
Vorden psyched himself into it being tomato juice and drank the whole thing. He felt very ill after. He tried to forget what he had just done because he felt like he was going to throw up. Logan, on the other hand, passed his to Fred saying he was trying to reduce how much he drank.
Cia and Lana gave theirs to Timmy using the same reason. Timmy's eyes went big in gratitude stating he'd give them to his parents when he went back home. Lana saved hers in her bag for later.
Soon after, a tray hit the ground with a clang. Someone decided to bully a student from the thirteenth. The student was covered in blood and being called a traitor. Logan asked if that student was from the tenth as well. Fred thought they must be living under a rock.
He explained the student was from the thirteen and a person from there had conspired against the other families. They assumed this was the reason Silver was teaching there because she is a knight from the thirteenth. The one who conspired was a direct descendant to be the next leader. Logan asked the person's name. Fred said it was Fex Sanguinis.
Layla was concerned about being separated, especially with Cia being an issue. She decided to think of it like her first day at military school as she was alone then as well. Unlike in other schools, her classroom was just that. One big classroom for all of them with one teacher. The seating was the same style.
In this classroom, all the students had features that proved them not to be human. Layla was suddenly grateful her horns were just bumps. The blond pulled her to an area of the class and made a person move so all the girls could sit together. The boy did as he was told after she punched him. The class was mainly girls so he felt outnumbered. After the girls were seated, Amy finally introduced herself.
Having just arrived in the vampire world, Layla asked Amy how she knew this was the right class. She was then told of the papers that explained everything. Being a Class C vampire meant this was her class. There were often not enough students for the class so they would wait until there were enough to hold it.
The teacher's name was Phil and he had short hair, glasses and a nice suit. He stood at the front of the class to observe the room. He noticed a succubus, a witchess, a banshee, and then he noticed Layla and his eyes lit up.
He said, "do you mind coming up pretty miss?" Layla nodded and went to the front of the class.
Phil stated introductions were pointless as they had no choice in which family they were with but they were all special. He stated it was important to know the traits of the subclasses. He asked her name then asked the class if they knew what subclass Layla was. A boy answered correctly.
Phil then explained hannyas are very rare. They are the only known class that can switch evolutions on the fly. They have three evolutions to chose based on the situation they are in. Each has their own abilities. They will eventually switch back to their original state, though. As Layla returned to her seat, she realized this class was exactly what she needed.
