Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: First Mission

Host: Kevin Carter

Age: 18 years old

Race: Human

Magic Power: ★

Magic: Take Over Magic - Anime Soul.

Character Card: Ulquiorra Cifer...

Kevin Carter watched Ulquiorra's character card quietly waiting in the system panel, filled with excitement. Originally just a high school graduate from Earth, Kevin had been unexpectedly transported to the Fairy Tail world half a month ago, awakening a unique gacha system.

This system allows him to draw deceased characters from anime, and by taking over their abilities, he can use their power in battles. It's much like playing a game of chance in Genshin Impact.

However, the system requires Kevin to bind with a Guild. Once bound, he earns a fixed monthly draw opportunity, with additional chances granted for completing guild tasks. Given his familiarity and fondness for the Fairy Tail atmosphere, it was the natural choice for him.

Plus, Fairy Tail is the strongest Guild in the Fiore Kingdom, offering a wide array of tasks.

Kevin approached the request board, examining the various missions. Though the board on the first floor lacked clear classifications, the system panel displayed the ranks of the tasks.

Tasks with a reward of 1 million J or more were marked as A-rank, offering one draw opportunity upon completion. B-rank tasks, with rewards between 500,000 J and 1 million J, required completing two for a draw opportunity. C-rank tasks, with rewards of 100,000 J to 500,000 J, required ten completions for one draw opportunity. Rewards below 100,000 J were unmarked, meaning Kevin needed tasks with at least 100,000 J for a chance to draw.

Kevin first considered tasks with rewards between 100,000 and 500,000 J. Eliminating beasts like Vulcan or bandits, or defeating forest monsters—tasks that might seem generous at 100,000 J (equivalent to about $5,000), were daunting. For instance, fighting Vulcan required more than twenty soldiers, making the reward seem meager.

After a quick glance, Kevin decided against these lower-tier tasks. Completing ten of them for just one draw would take too long—about a month without rest, yielding only twelve opportunities a year, including the system's monthly draw. With the system's pity guarantee requiring 100 draws for a gold character, Kevin needed more challenging tasks.

Determined to escape poverty and yearning for wealth, Kevin selected a task and headed to Mira.

"Mira, I'd like to take this job."

Mira was surprised by Kevin's quick decision: "Starting so soon? You could get to know the Guild first."

Kevin smiled wryly: "No need. I'm too broke to afford food. If I don't work, I'll starve."

Having been in this world for half a month, Kevin had struggled without money, even sleeping outdoors. En route to Fairy Tail, he encountered bandits. Without the system's free draw, which granted him a blue Chunin, he might have failed before starting. Scavenging some money from the bandits helped him reach Fairy Tail, but funds were running out.

"Hehe!"

Mira chuckled. Many Fairy Tail Mages were similar, procrastinating until utterly broke before working.

"Let's see what kind of job it is... Hmm?!"

Mira was taken aback by the job description: "Wait, I can't approve this. I need to consult the Master. Please wait; he'll return soon."

"Master?"

Kevin hadn't met Makarov yet.

Just then, an old man in a yellow trench coat and jester's hat entered the Guild with a scroll.

"Master, you're back!" Mira greeted him.

Makarov noticed Kevin: "Hmm? A newcomer?"

"Yes, I'm Kevin Carter. Pleased to meet you."

Kevin bowed respectfully. Despite Makarov's small stature, Kevin knew he possessed world-shattering power. With Titan Magic and Super Magic Fairy Law, Makarov could easily defeat the Alvarez Empire's forces, earning Kevin's respect.

Makarov raised a hand in greeting: "Oh! Nice to meet you too!"

Then, "Hmph!!"

Makarov jumped onto the second-floor railing, catching everyone's attention.

Holding a thick stack of documents, Makarov looked displeased: "You're causing me trouble again, aren't you? Look at how many documents the Magic Council sent."

"First, Gray."

"Huh?"

A shirtless boy, clad only in underwear, looked nonchalant.

Mira reminded him: "Gray, your clothes."

"Ah~!! I forgot again!"

Gray rushed to find his clothes.

"You pursued bandits, but why roam the streets unclothed? And you stole someone's drying underwear!"

Gray looked embarrassed: "Uh... being naked isn't great..."

Elfman retorted: "Then don't be naked!"

Makarov sighed at Elfman: "You used violence against your client?"

Elfman, embarrassed, said: "He said I wasn't a man!"

"Cana! You drank the client's wine cellar dry and diluted the wine with water to hide it."

"...Was I caught?..."

Cana felt guilty.

"Loki, you provoked Councilman Mikerro's granddaughter."

Makarov had faced Mikerro's scolding at the Council.

"Next, Natsu."

"Eliminating monsters, destroying roads, wrecking houses, burning goods—Natsu caused a lot of chaos."

Listening to Natsu's misdeeds, Kevin was startled. He knew Natsu was trouble but hadn't expected this level.

"Alzack, Levy, Krov, Liddus, Bisca..."

"You all get me scolded by the Councilmen..."

Makarov suppressed his anger, creating a tense atmosphere.

Then, his tone softened: "But... those Councilmen can go eat dirt!"

Makarov burned the documents with magic.

"Remember, all phenomena that transcend common sense are born from it. Magic isn't miraculous but the result of our inner 'ether' aligning with nature's. It's the condensation of spirit and concentration—pouring one's soul into it."

"If you care about the higher-ups' thoughts, magic will never progress. Don't fear those Council fools. Follow your path!"

"This is what a Fairy Tail Mage is!!!"

"Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh!!!"

The guild cheered. Though Kevin was new, he felt the excitement too. He was truly part of Fairy Tail.

The guild soon returned to its lively state, filled with drinking and chatter.

Mira brought the request form to Makarov: "Master, Kevin wants to take on this job. I can't decide; please take a look."

"Oh, what task is it? Let's see."

Makarov reviewed the form.

Eliminate the Phantom Bandit Gang: Task Reward: 700,000 J.
