Chapter 38 - 38

"Such a beautiful view would be wasted without wine," Callista said leisurely. "Shall we drink?"

She lifted the wine pot and poured two cups before handing one to Zion.

He accepted it, and for a moment his gaze lingered on her.

He still did not know whether Callista had prepared this courtyard because she had somehow anticipated his mood tonight. Perhaps it was merely a coincidence. Perhaps she had simply wanted a quiet place to drink.

But if she had prepared it for him, then this woman was far more thoughtful than he had initially given her credit for.

Tonight, Zion had severed his last connection to the General's Residence.

Tonight, the place he had called home for fifteen years had finally ceased to have anything to do with him.

And, perhaps because of that, he wanted to forget for a little while.

He raised his cup.

"Then let's drink."

The two of them sat beneath the flowering trees, quietly drinking beneath the moonlight.

Neither brought up the General's Residence.
