A child screeched happily in the bathtub, throwing water in every direction. She was playing with a little boat and pretended to be a sea monster to sink it, sending waves of water over the tub and unto the floor. Her fifty eight year old caretaker who was watching her try to sink the little boat for the third time looked at her with joy before letting out a quiet sigh. Stopping her game and finishing her bath, the fifty eight year old caretaker dried the little princess, put her in sleeping clothes and tucked her into bed.
Turning to leave, the old caretaker didn't make it more than two steps before the blankets were thrown down. Sighing before chuckling quietly, the old caretaker tucked the little girl in bed once more and stared her down. Satisfied when she didn't throw the blankets of, the old caretaker turned to leave but the blankets were thrown down the very second she turned her back. Looking at the little girl fondly and knowing that the child wouldn't go to sleep anytime soon, the caretaker grabbed a wooden chair at the far side of the room and drew it closer to the little child.
"Seems I can't make it past you tonight." the old caretaker said bopping the princess's little button nose.
"What do I have to do for you to let me go?" the old caretaker asked and the little princess chanted "Story! Story!"
Chuckling at the princess's s excitement, the old caretaker said "Settle down for I am about to tell you a story from a long time ago."
"A long time ago?" The princess asked curiously.
"Yes." The old caretaker said nodding.
"A long time ago." the old caretaker said widening her arms to illustrate a long time ago.
Curious, the little princess settled down to listen.
"This story is about the sun and moon-" the caretaker said, picking up the little girl's colouring book and showing her the picture of the sun and moon that she had previously coloured.
"Or better yet Sol and Luna." The old caretaker said with a wink.
"Long ago on a day like any other, two people born on the same day and at the same time met each other." The caretaker said, pausing to build suspense.
"Luna, the most beautiful girl in the land with her stunning blonde hair and light blue eyes ran away from home to relish in a little bit of freedom before she would be shipped off to marry a tyrant king in a faraway land." said the caretaker.
"A tyrant King!" The princess said with a gasp.
"Yes, a tyrant king." The caretaker said, mirroring the young girl's words and expressions.
"The tyrant King was the most ruthless wolf in the land, he had conquered kingdom after kingdom and wanted Luna's hand in marriage because she would make a lovely ornament in his castle" The caretaker said and the princess scrunched up her nose.
"Luna was the princess of a kingdom on the opposite end from where the tyrant King ruled but rumours of her beauty led the tyrant King to track her and her kingdom down." said the old caretaker.
"Even at her young age, Luna understood that her people could not afford a war but despite her brain understanding, Luna's heart could not help but mourn the chance of not seeing her fated mate." the old caretaker said with a sad voice.
"What does fated mate mean?" The little girl asked curiously.
"A fated mate is the most beautiful thing a wolf could ever have the pleasure of finding." The old caretaker said and the little girl had stars in her eyes.
"A fated mate is someone who understands you, completes you and loves you forever." The old caretaker said.
"Like mummy and daddy?" The little girl asked and the old caretaker wondered if her eyes could grow any bigger.
"Yes, like mummy and daddy " The caretaker said with a smile and the child cheered.
"After Luna ran away-" The caretaker said going back to her story.
"She bumped into Sol, a youthful man filled with vigor and innocent charm" the caretaker said, trying to describe her words with big movements and an innocent smile.
"Who had coincidentally wandered far away from the path his father sent him on and stumbled upon Luna sulking on the field like a child" the caretaker said with a quiet chuckle.
"He approached her quietly, careful not to spook her and asked "Can I be of service?". Startled because she thought she would be all alone in those woods, Luna looked up at him and tried to mask her sadness but her smile looked painful and crooked and Sol smiled back just as sadly." The caretaker said with a sad smile.
"Needing a friend Luna broke and told Sol what was bothering her "I am to be married and sent to a far way land. Far from my friends and anyone I know and I fear no one can change it" Pained by the sadness of a girl that he only just met, Sol took her hands in his and said "then I will be a friend you can always come to when you are burdened by life. I will try my best to alleviate your sorrows and provide you a shoulder to cry on. " the caretaker said, repeating the conversation word for word.
As if she were relieving the moment, the caretaker reiterated the moment they told each other their names.
"What is your name?" Sol had asked.
"Luna." Luna replied with a smile.
"And what is yours?" Luna asked, returning his question back to him.
"Sol." Sol said with a smile.
"Ever since then Sol and Luna saw each other often. Luna would sneak out of her castle to see him and Sol would sneak out of his father's workshop to see her in the woods. They understood each other perfectly and grew so close that they couldn't imagine life without the other." The old caretaker said sadly.
"Luna's wedding date kept drawing closer with each passing year and their time with each other dwindled and dwindled until what was supposed to be their last visit to each other" the caretaker said, pausing for dramatic effect.
"But fate had other plans." the caretaker said with a grin.
