Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

"On the last day that they were supposed to see each other, the clock struck 12 and Sol and Luna realised they were mates." the old caretaker said with excitement and the princess clapped.

"Spurred on by their emotions and not wanting to let each other go, Luna and Sol came up with a plan to draw the tyrant King by running away." The old caretaker said and the princess squealed in joy.

"Run away, run away!" The young princess chanted and the caretaker looked at her with fondness.

"Yes, runaway!" The old caretaker said, agreeing with the little princess.

"But-" the old caretaker said suddenly going quiet.

"What Sol and Luna didn't know was that the King was onto them." The caretaker said with a hazy look in her eyes.

"On the day that Sol and Luna escaped the tyrant King made a surprise visit to Luna's kingdom with his army." The old caretaker said and the princess gasped in shock.

"The tyrant King had received intel that Luna was sneaking out to meet a boy and his abrupt visit was to take her by force." the old caretaker said.

"Luna's father, unaware of his daughter's disappearance, ran to Luna's room in the castle only to find nothing but a letter placed under her pillow." the old caretaker said and the little princess clutched her blankets in distress.

"With shaky hands the King read Luna's letter and her plan to draw the attention of the tyrant King by running away." said the old caretaker.

"Knowing that it wouldn't be that simple, Luna's father dropped the letter back where he saw it and walked walked back inside with no bride in sight." the old care taker said and the young child looked distraught.

"Having no bride to present to the tyrant King, Luna's father offered himself up to be killed." The old caretaker said and the little child screamed "No!".

"To placate the tyrant King, Luna's father thought his life would suffice but the tyrant King saw it as impudence." said the old caretaker.

"And in response to what the tyrant king viewed as impudence the tyrant king killed everyone; men, children, women and not even animals were spared." The old caretaker said and the princess clutched her fists in anger.

"The tyrant King set the whole kingdom ablaze and made sure there was nothing left of it." the old caretaker said looking off in the distance.

"Unaware of the horrors that took place after their departure, Luna and Sol ran as far as they could from the kingdom. Stopping under the sky of a thousand stars, they laughed breathlessly, happy they had escaped and the King will run after them. For the first time since they met, Sol and Luna danced together in the tranquility of the forest. They laughed and wept, happy that they have each other but their little peace was interrupted by a tingling in the air." said the old caretaker.

"The wind picked up around Sol and Luna and their surroundings became abnormally quiet and when they began to lose their mind in worry, a figure covered in blinding light appeared." The old caretaker said before going quiet.

Wanting to know what happened next the child shook the caretaker's arm to get her attention.

"What?" the child asked desperately.

"What happened to Sol and Luna?" the child said urgently.

Jolting back to reality the old caretaker smiled at the young princess before saying.

"The figure surrounded by the blinding light asked them "Do you know the weight of what you had just done?."

"Confused because all they did was run away Sol and Luna asked the figure what they did wrong and the figure replied by saying "One million five hundred thousand, six hundred and sixty six that was the number of the many lives that were lost today"

Confused why the figure was telling them that Luna and Sol tried to speak but the figure interrupted them.

"Being in love is not a sin but forgoing your responsibilities to fulfill one's own desire is something I can not forgive." the figure said in anger.

"For five years I shall give you the grace of living a beautiful life, smooth without difficulty and no want for anything in respect for the mate bond you both share but after that, I curse you both to never recognize each other on this plain and the next. I curse you both to roam the plains knowing something is amiss but not knowing what it is. I curse you both to run around in confusion, continuously searching for each other but never making contact till the day all grief is forgiven. This, I curse you" the old caretaker said the last word in extreme sadness.

"But they couldn't have known how it would end!" The little princess screamed in distress.

"Why should they have to pay for what the tyrant king did?" the child said in frustration.

"No one knows why." said the old caretaker

"No one knows why the figure still chose to curse them after knowing everything that happened. No one knows if the figure cursed the tryrant King for the loss of an entire kingdom!" the old caretaker said in rage.

"What we do know-" the old caretaker said, calming down.

"Is that they were cursed to never meet again till all grief is forgiven" the old caretaker said with a sad smile.

"When will all grief be forgiven?!" the little girl screamed and the old caretaker chuckled.

"Only time will tell" the old caretaker said and put the little princess to bed.

Waiting to see if the little princess will spring up miraculously, the old caretaker let out a breath of relief when the child let out quiet snores. Going to draw the curtains, the old caretaker stopped when she saw a black smoky aura slithering past the humans in the town below.

Letting out a sigh in disbelief, the old caretaker's eyes glowed white and the air around her became charged with power.

"You may have cursed them to be apart in your world but they are in mine now." The old caretaker said and the black smoky aura disappeared instantly.

"I will ensure that they meet again and I will ensure that they stay together." The old caretaker said turning around to stare at the little princess.

"And this time, you will be able to do nothing but watch." The old caretaker said before vanishing.
