A girl crawls out of the river on the night of a storm, her body slick with tar, her wings dripping onto the stones. Dariare finds her collapsed outside the gates of his family’s crumbling estate. She won’t speak, but she won’t leave either; and with her existence arrives a plague of disasters upon London, ever so cruel and ever so present—poisoning Europe into pandemonium.
