Chapter 31 - Chapter 31: Desperate Situation

"That's me. Can I help you with something?" Li Jingsheng sensed that this middle-aged couple seemed unfriendly and responded cautiously.

Boss Zhao secretly sized up the duo, unable to hide a sly smile from creeping up his lips.

He was quite pleased to see something going wrong at the Sunshine Clinic.

With his experience, he was certain this middle-aged couple was here to cause trouble.

"Was there a seventy-something old lady who came to see you last night? She came in with a cane."

The woman directly asked.

"Yes, I did see such a patient."

Li Jingsheng admitted openly.

He had also gotten a handle on their identities.

"My mother-in-law is still lying in the hospital, unconscious. You left her there without doing anything, and what is that supposed to mean?" The woman's aggressive questioning was intense.

Boss Zhao, seeing the situation, immediately shrank his neck back.

"Dr. Li, it seems you've got something on your plate; I'll visit some other time." Having said this, Boss Zhao didn't forget to take another dig at Li Jingsheng's business, calling into the infusion room. "Tang Ping, I'm leaving now. What I said before still stands; you can join me anytime for work."

He was convinced that Li Jingsheng could not escape his doom.

He also harbored a strong desire for Tang Ping's body.

Once he lured her over, he would eventually find a chance to make a move.

Watching Boss Zhao quickly leave, Li Jingsheng was full of disdain.

Leaving so quickly, wasn't it just to avoid getting burned?

After all, a medical mishap is definitely not a good thing.

Boss Zhao also ran a clinic. It was easy for him to get caught up in the collateral damage, so naturally, he avoided it like the plague.

"I sent the person to the hospital for emergency treatment, completely fulfilling my responsibilities. What do you mean by this now?"

Li Jingsheng clearly stood at a different level of confidence facing the pair.

However, the man's mere glance was enough to make his heart shiver.

"The accident happened in your clinic, and leaving the person in the hospital while ignoring it, what do you mean by asking us? You must take responsibility for this."

The woman shrieked sharply.

A man should never argue with a woman because they are simply no match for them.

"I cannot take responsibility for this. I believe my clinic has no responsibility." Li Jingsheng stated bluntly.

Despite having a status far inferior to these two, justice and law provide protection for the rights of ordinary people. Instead of being responsible, he had merits for rescuing them, which made his arguments sound just and righteous.

"If this is your attitude, then we'll have to let the police talk to you!"

The man spoke.

The tone carried a powerful confidence, like a lofty mountain, giving a sense of being unshakeable, able to fulfill what was said.

"No problem, then just report it to the police!"

Li Jingsheng couldn't show weakness.

He knew very well how terrifying a medical disturbance could be.

Any sign of weakness could lead the other party to push their advantage relentlessly.

This middle-aged couple must have sought information from the hospital's doctors and nurses.

They came not to express gratitude, but to hold Li Jingsheng responsible, which was extremely hard to accept.

Luckily, he had backed up the surveillance footage after returning yesterday.

Everything would be clear once the police conducted their investigation.

The two patients in the infusion room naturally heard the quarrel outside.

They both peeked their heads out to look.

Upon hearing that Sunshine Clinic had botched a treatment and abandoned the patient after sending them to the hospital, causing the family to come for an explanation, a sense of fear gripped their hearts. What if they were given problematic medication too, what would they do then?

"Nurse, I don't want this injection anymore." Ms. Ou, growing more frightened, hurriedly asked Tang Ping to remove the needle for her.

"Are you feeling unwell?"

Tang Ping asked.

"I'd feel more at ease being treated at a big hospital."

When it comes to matters of life and death, few patients are easy to converse with.

Ms. Ou, not long ago, was full of praise for Sunshine Clinic, lauding the skills of Li Jingsheng and Tang Ping's excellent service—now she turned quicker than flipping pages.

"There's no need to worry, really. We are a licensed clinic, and both Dr. Li and I hold practice certificates recognized by national health authorities." Tang Ping naturally understood why the patient suddenly wanted to unplug the needle.

It was nothing but the commotion outside making them fear the treatment might be unauthorized.

For any clinic, a medical disturbance could have catastrophic negative effects.

Even major hospitals dreaded medical disturbances.

Now there were laws, making things a bit better.

Previously, all it took was hanging banners, placing wreaths, and burning paper money, and the hospital, regardless of right or wrong, would quickly agree to a settlement.

That gave rise to a special black industry of medical disturbances.

Now that the middle-aged couple had shown up at Li Jingsheng's clinic causing trouble, the negative impact was immediate.

The two patients he had just managed to gain were about to be scared away.

Meanwhile, outside the clinic, a crowd began to gather to watch the chaos, and it was rapidly growing.

Under normal circumstances, such a large number of spectators wouldn't just appear.

Boss Zhao had just left, and immediately the spectators started to show up.

Even using your toes, you could figure out the connection.

There's a high chance it was yet another sinister trick by Boss Zhao.

Aiming to ruin the reputation of Li Jingsheng's Sunshine Clinic.

Continuously rallying passersby to come and watch.

Li Jingsheng's face turned as black as a rag, mentally cursing Boss Zhao and his entire family. That wretched bastard Zhao was truly wicked.

Facing more and more onlookers, densely packed, it seemed today's trouble was inevitable.

The situation for Li Jingsheng was dire.

Now everyone knew that Sunshine Clinic had a medical mishap. Who would dare come here for treatment or medicine in the future?

They would all avoid it.

Li Jingsheng deeply realized the adage about mud falling into one's pants—it becomes dirt whether it is or not.

Even if he had ten mouths, he couldn't explain it.

The male family member was already making a call to the police.

The female family member went to open the glass door, loudly explaining their 'injustice' to the crowd, asking for judgment.

In other words, they were intentionally creating a scene to pressure Li Jingsheng.

At this moment, just as Li Jingsheng caught a glimmer of hope, this unexpected event once again plunged him into despair.

The dark and ruthless side of society, like a merciless blade, was stripping him of his dignity.

He forced himself to remain calm.

The more adverse the situation, the calmer he needed to be.

Risk and opportunity coexisted.

As his mind cooled, wisdom took root, and he began contemplating strategies.

The only way to turn things around today was to publicly clarify the facts.

However, if he were to speak, no one would believe him.

Once the police arrived, leveraging their authority to speak publicly might be an excellent option.

He might even seize this chance for significant publicity.

Yet, as he understood, police rarely handled cases on the spot; usually, they gathered evidence to take back to the station.

Unfortunately, Li Jingsheng had neither background nor connections.

Otherwise, having a friendly word could handle things quite nicely.

Time ticked by elapsed second by second, and every second was a torment.

Many among the crowd, hearing the woman's repeated account, started to blame Li Jingsheng for misconduct, labeling his practice as a black clinic and him a black-hearted boss.

At this point, before the police arrived, two media reporters entered.

Without a word, they began taking pictures of Li Jingsheng's clinic.

"Excuse me, are you a relative of the patient involved in the incident?"

The pretty female reporter stepped forward to interview the woman.

"Sorry, I do not accept interviews."

Upon seeing reporters arrive, the woman hurriedly covered her face to dodge the camera. The man also evaded the reporter's lens.

Whether Boss Zhao 'kindly' contacted the news hotline to bring the reporters or it was the curious onlookers adding fuel to the fire wasn't clear. It certainly wasn't the family who called them.

At first, Li Jingsheng felt hopeless; now, having devised a complete strategy to counter, he appeared calm and collected.

With a detached demeanor, he awaited the arrival of the police.
