A security guard stepped into my path, his stance professional yet unyielding. "Kat I see your invitation, miss?"
Confusion washed over me. I couldn't fathom why the Noah family gathering needed invitations, or why nobody had bothered to give me one.
Webster had probably forgotten this detail—his carelessness was typical. "I'm with the Noah family," I said calmly. "I was just running late. You can check with them inside."
The guard looked me up and down with suspicion before sneering, "The Noahs showed up thirty minutes ago. You can't seriously think I'll buy that you're with them.
"You know the Noahs booked this venue and invited Stormhaven's whole elite crowd, so you're trying to slip in and grab whatever you can get your hands on. Am I right?"
